jadedghiacand Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I got that email from the idiot club saying renew between 10th Dec 2010 and 11th Dec 2011 (12/10/10 - 12/11/11) to get a free t shirt. To rejoin its basically $30 (£19) for me because of that delivery on the "free" tshirt. Is it worth the money to renew now and get the t shirt or should I wait until Green Day is getting closer to the point of announcing a new tour and album to get the updates and presales? In 2009 when word got out about a new album I strategically joined and managed to bag myself the best arena seats for the two o2 arena gigs and the wembley gig in london, thanks to the presales they did. Otherwise I got literally fuck all out of it to be honest. Cant decide at all - Can anyone tell me what exactly is on the idiot club site now (eg: competitions, videos, audio, etc)?
Undómiel Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I was a member of the Idiot Club back when GD was on tour and didn't think it paid even then... I didn't renew when mine was up. :/
fiercecircus Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 i was a member back in 1995 when you DIDN't have to renew. I got a shirt and a ton of shit. And i used to get christmas postcards once a year- for ages. Up until Warning, at least... Now i am not even a member. It's freaking expensive, yo.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I wouldn't renew, the Idiot Club isn't really worth anything unless they're touring and you live in the right part of the world (they don't do presales everywhere, and occasionally but rarely there's something else, but that's pretty much always in California or New York, and when there were contests they were often US-only. In 2010, at least).
Micky Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I was a member in the American Idiot era and I renewed it once only, to try and win an early enter. But that was when they were on tour, now it's just freaking expensive and you don't get that much.
stuart_and_the_ave Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 There isn't a lot on there at the moment, just pre-sale tickets for some musical dates. There aren't any contests at the moment, I think it's been quite a while since the last one. The main reason I renewed was for the t-shirt, then I renewed a second time because I had a discount code. I sold one of the t-shirts so I got half the membership money back which made it a bit better. I'd say it isn't really worth it at the moment. As far as i can see all the photos and videos are available elsewhere like youtube and the picture threads.
elisa Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I am a member. there's nothing going on there at the moment. my suggestion (just like everyone else's) is to join when the band gets back on tour. that's when they hold cool contests and you can sign in to win soundcheck/early entries passes.
pasalaska Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 So not worth it. Save the money and get a shirt off the official GD store (or off GDA ) instead.
kelly42fox Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I renew with the hope and longing that we'll get something cool out of it... And I'm usually disappointed. *sigh*
bass boy Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I say yes. It just got me some awesome seats on the opening night of the musical, and if its comming by you, id reccomend it. That and with all this hubub (yes i use that word, dont judge) about the Tiki Bar gig and the new album id say its a good idea
Hermione Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Definitely not worth it. If they ever do anything remotely good, they'll announce it on greenday.com (and people will post about it on here) in advance. And then you can decide if it's worth signing up for or not then. No point in renewing until they're actually doing something you wanna renew for. My membership ran out a few months ago but for the two years I was a member there were no videos or audio, and giveaway contests were all just for the US. The only good things were the presales (which I joined for) and the live video chat with Chris Dugan and Bill Schneider. If they announce presales for a show I'm going to or do something as good as/better than that chat I'll probably renew but if I renewed now I'm pretty sure all I'd get would be the t-shirt and the forum.
Marlee Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 i'm probably not going to renew. I became a member before I knew about GDA. Honestly, you get the same info from here and If you're dying for a shirt they have GDC and GDA shirts
pulling.teeth Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 yeah i was a member a couple of years ago, and decided not to renew. i figured it was too expensive for what it actually offers, especially when the boys aren't on tour (:
alaniluau Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Like the vast majority of human beings, I'm not an Idiot Club fan. The presales didn't do much for me. When I saw the boys last year, IC tried to give me horrible seats in the back and I ended up having to get my tickets through AFI's fan club. I considered renewing for musical tickets, but I think I can get along fine without IC's help.
gloria123 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 i'm not part of the idiot club but if i were you i'd wait till we have news about a new record or something, because now there's nothing doing so it would be a waste
Fuzz Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I think I went two years without renewing, then I did just because I wanted to the new shirt. No it's not worth it unless something is coming up where you might have a chance to get pre-sales.
Dylan. Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 The Idiot Club never interested me. All the cool Green Day fans usually just have a GDC account. The contests are usually lame, and the t-shirt is nothing THAT special. Don't renew.
fiercecircus Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 i have never had an issue getting awesome tickets without the idiot club anyways. I've almost always had floors (except when i had my BF order them while i was at work. Never do that! Last fucking row...)
Hermione Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I don't know about the US but as far as the UK goes presales on the Idiot Club are great. Had no problem buying standing tickets for me and 5 other people for both shows I went to. If they have a presale for the next show I'm going to I'll be signing up again.
Bastard of 1967 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 IC presales for the 2009-2010 tour worked out great for me every time (primo bowl seats for me), and it was invaluable for getting AIOB seats -- front row for one of Billie Joe's performances as St. Jimmy. Your mileage may vary.

I know for some shows in the US lots of members were upset because there were very few tickets available and they weren't great (usually not up front because of the smaller venues they played the second time around).

I got my ticket for the second night at the O2 Arena through presale with no problem. I got two seated tickets and the spots were great, it was the first block next to the stage.
whatserbmae Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I think it's worth it. I won early entry at the concert in Oslo last year, and got front row tickets to AIOB to see St Billie in January this year, so I'm happy. But the forum on GDC is definitely better
