The two guitars that Billie Joe has said he uses most, values most, and enjoys most are the 70's Fernandes Stratocaster called "Blue" and the 1956 Les Paul Junior we know as "Floyd". As most of us who have seen Green Day live know, Billie Joe will usually use a Les Paul Junior similar to "Floyd" for about half the concert, and either the original "Blue" or a replica for the other half (the older songs). They are both distinct guitars with different tones. Which do you guys in GDC land like the most, and for what reason(s)?

For me Blue made more of the songs I love than Floyd did...plus whenever I see Blue I get this weird happy feeling I love Blue

I really, really like Floyd's tone.

The last two times I saw them I can't remember he used Floyd a lot though? He often uses the newer looking white (AI era) or yellowish (21stCB era) Les Paul Junior.

Yeah I know thats true. He used Floyd a lot more during the AI tour, but the only reason he bought all of his LP Jrs is because he loved Floyd so much

Blue, I reckon it looks better and it's more uniqe. Floyd is a great guitar aswell though.

blue looks cooler but floyd sounds better.

I think Floyd is a purdy guitar but Blue just has more personality and of course a lot of sentimental value.

I simply love the fact that billie has the same guitar since he was 10 years old so I voted Blue!

I completely agree, and it was a gift from his dad, so he will never give it up for anything

Agreed. I like that Floyd is a natural tone for that guitar, but BJA modified Blue to sound the way it does

BLUE FOR LIFE! It's just so much cooler and billie joe-ie

That was a hard one but I went for "Blue" mainly cause of it's tone or sound. It's looks more 'Green Day' Like I Think of Green Day when I see that but "Floyd" Looks more like the typical Punk Rock guitar...

Voted for blue. Blue looks better, and I prefer seeing Billie play it. but if I was offered either, I'd take the les Paul.

I think I would too. Vintage LPJRs sound amazing

I prefer neither tbh. A classic Les Paul or a Telecaster would be my preference. But if I was to choose one it would be Blue, its completely original and gets its punch from that Seymour Duncan pick-up Billie has in the bridge, I love the sound of those pick ups

Blue is the guitar which gave me the desire to play music, so I prefere Blue, not only for the sound but also for all that it represent.

I was under the impression that the original Blue fell apart and he only has replicas now..... I would expect as much. The way he plays guitar and smashes them about is going to add some serious wear and tear..... ... But what do i know?

Hm I remember this performance where he was like "Bring me floyd!".. That's when I found out about the name. I totally can't remember which one that was though. D:

Can be a lots of guitars, which sounds good, looks even better ... but first guitar there is only one . In addition, if you know, that from whom you got it, worked for it so much... that's always nicer, kinder .....so BLUE

Blue is iconic! And so fun with all the stickers and stuff. Getting a guitar when you're 11 years old and still playing it 28 years later when you're in a world famous band playing in a huge stadium, AND having a photo of you with the guitar when you were 11 stuck on the back of it................it doesn't get any cooler than that

Nah, around Nimrod time the original got too broken/worn out to play so he started using replicas instead (you probably read about it in an article from around that time). But between Warning and American Idiot he got the original fixed and dismantled the replicas. From the American Idiot tour onwards he's been playing the real Blue. Apart from on the last leg of the 21st CB tour, in South America, when it needed some maintenance done to it so he left it at home and used a new replica instead.
