Prosthetic Brain Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Have there ever been a point in any Green Day song that every time you listen to it, it gives you that chill that you feel down your spine? One in particular that I can name off the top of my head is during "Restless Heart Syndrome" when he sang the line "You are your own worst enemy/Know your enemy". It immediately gave me chills the way he referenced the actual song, "Know Your Enemy". Any similar feelings?
Stormy Haze Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 That first part of Viva La Gloria!, where you only hear Billie and the piano. God that's amazing, especially live.
Zelda Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 The 'Death of St. Jimmy' segment of Homecoming. Especially the harmonies on 'when you've lost your dreams in the rain'. it's a total eargasm. When Billie sings it, or when Tony, Davey, or Melissa sang it. It's always fucking amazing.
Katarina. Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 "I'm so much closer than I have ever known" in Waiting. Every. Time.
Annie, get your gun Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Uhm... yeah I feel that with some songs. Like with 21st Century Breakdown in the part of "We are the class of 13... ". And with 21 Guns live. I can't remember more right now.
fadi_7 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 yaa almost every song does that to me and it feels awesome the best one is in jesus of suburbia dearly beloved part
kristinsinferno Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 The entire intro to Christie Road on AAF. I love the way Billie's voice quivers like he's holding back tears.
Alan86 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 The bass and drum part of Holiday when Billie starts singing " sieg heil" And in Jesus of Suburbia, that whole rant in 'I don't care' Starting with "everyone's so full of shit......
AnnA™ Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 One in particular that I can name off the top of my head is during "Restless Heart Syndrome" when he sang the line "You are your own worst enemy/Know your enemy". It immediately gave me chills the way he referenced the actual song, "Know Your Enemy". This actually. I think there's more that I can't think of right this second. Oh, right! Are We The Waiting, literally the whole song, gives me the chills. Every time.
Kristen M Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Pretty much all the songs they played at the concert I was at give me the chills, memorieess
DestinedIdiot Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 "you're just a junkie preachin to the choir." that one line in ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl). just the way that Billie sings it makes me shiver every time.
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Have there ever been a point in any Green Day song that every time you listen to it, it gives you that chill that you feel down your spine? One in particular that I can name off the top of my head is during "Restless Heart Syndrome" when he sang the line "You are your own worst enemy/Know your enemy". It immediately gave me chills the way he referenced the actual song, "Know Your Enemy". Any similar feelings? Too many examples to list here, and I think that what hits you does come and go with what you're experiencing and what kind of mood you're in. Billie Joe writes on such a broad spectrum of things that something somewhere is bound to nail you one way or another. Best examples I can think of quickly are in The Static Age, basically the entire song after the key change that starts "All I wanna know is a god damned thing". In American Eulogy there's another piece of lyrical brilliance at "True sounds of maniacal laughter/and the deaf-mute's misleading the choir/the punch line is a natural disaster and it's sung by the unemployed". In "She," Billie begs you to challenge yourself on how you've let someone else trap you in your life's rut and when/how you're going to burst free of it -- "are you locked up in a world that's been planned out for you?" I could go on for ages...and I suppose that's what the Song of the Week threads are for. Uhm... yeah I feel that with some songs. Like with 21st Century Breakdown in the part of "We are the class of 13... ". And with 21 Guns live. I can't remember more right now. Indeed -- I took my handle here from "raised by the bastards of 1969" in 21stCB, that entire orchestration just fucking blew my mind the first time I heard it. And THENNNN a few months later I got to hear it live. "you're just a junkie preachin to the choir." that one line in ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl). just the way that Billie sings it makes me shiver every time. For me it gets even better than that at the bridge -- "the traces of blood always follow you home, like the mascara tears from your getaway" with Mike screaming "GLO-RI-AAAAAaaaaaaaaa" in the background vocals. Poke fun at Butch Vig and his mixing all you want, but the way he laid that part of Little Girl out is nothing short of genius. That haunting, pleading, desperation as you picture Gloria racing off down the street in tears with Christian yelling for her to come back -- two short verses paints such an incredible picture. It chills me, chokes me up, and brings tears to my eyes almost every time I hear it -- or even think about it.
StarKiller Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 "Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial" in Good Riddance. There's something special about it, something magical.
EvanAsFuck Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 There's lots of points in GD songs that do that to me... But in the AAF version of JOS, in City of the Damned when Billie does that 3 step climb on the last "Care", it is just the most amazing/beautiful thing ever... I had a major chills attack the first time I watched/heard it... Go to 3:05: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbWWyPORIlI
Viva_La_Revolution! Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 When Billie yells "we are alive!" durring BOBD live. Its amazing. Alot of songs also tho, especally when i watch the videos from the concert i went to.
Nickofsuburbia Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 the last bit of Whatsername cuz its such a perfect ending to the album. the piano bit in Tales From Another Broken Home of JOS and the part following that (actually pretty much all of JOS) also Redundant. the entire song. i guess im a sap for the emotional points
Jessayy Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 The piano solo is the live version of 21 Guns. It's just so magical.
Red Lights Flash Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 - The first part of Whatsername when it's just some background music and Billie Joe. - First few times I heard before the lobotomy, how it builds up to the outro.. which is the same as the intro. - The "we are the class of 13" build-up on 21stCB. - First time I heard the bridge of 21 Guns (both right before the solo as that high note in the middle of the solo)
LauraG Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 So many! The only one I can remember right now, the part in Letterbomb that goes: She said I can't take this place, I'm leaving it behind Well she said I can't take this town, I'm leaving you tonight JUST EPIC! Another ones: From No One Knows I don’t want to cause no harm, but sometimes my actions hurt Is there something I should find, to make plans for forever From Jesus of Suburbia I don’t feel any shame, I won’t apologize When there ain’t nowhere you can go Running away from pain, when you’ve been victimized Tales from another broken home From Whatsername: And in the darkess night, if my memory serves me right I’ll never turn back time, forgetting you but not the time From 21 Guns: Did you try to live on your own, when you burn down the house and home Did you stand too close to the fire? like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone I’m not surprised most of them are from American Idiot. The’ve put so much emotion into that record! I love it!
beejeezee Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I have many moments. Give Me Novacaine and Restless Heart Syndrome are probably the only two songs that the whole thing ya know just givs me chills. I mean the song's are just beatiful and the lyrics. The Beginning of Whatsername, the end of Letterbomb, Most of Before The Lobotomy, The Solo of Green Day's Working Class Hero Cover, and 21 Guns Solo.
radiofriendlyunitshifter Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 For me, it's the last part of A Quick One when he repeatedly shouts "You are forgiven!"
Pedestrian9394 Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I don't know if anyone said this already, but....the last part of the BIAB version of Good Riddance. The audience is singing louder than him, and it's all slow and beautiful. I can't imagine how it must feel for Green Day to hear audiences like that.
Laurenn Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 On BIAB when Billie says "Lights Out" during Holiday. In waiting "The Jesus of Suburbia is a lie" During St. Jimmy at AI on Broadway when he says "welcome to the club and give me some blood." and like you said in Restless Heart Syndrome.
BrickOfSelfControl1995 Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 "We are the cries of the class of 13" in 21cb. also that moment in FOD when it stops being acoustic and the noise just slams down and i just wanna rock out but usually im in too much shock to do anything. also the guitar breakdown in Only of you, right after the solo and then billie and mike do the harmonies of "ahhh"s theres a "chills" moment for me in almost every song so i could go on forever lol
