Kayfabe Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Listening to some songs the other day and I realised: "This dirty town is burning down in my dreams" "This city's burning - it's not my burden" "Mayday this is not a test, as the neighbourhood burns" I wonder what 'burning the town to the ground' is a metaphor for, anyway. Oh and also, Billie Joe loves to throw the word 'suicide' in a song. What others have you noticed?
Alan86 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Just a lyrical reversal between 21st CB and static age " the lights early Dawn" And "the dawns early light" Also I am a nation a worker of pride And I am a nation without bureacratic ties
JDookie Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I'm a son of a gun ---> St Jimmy and Uptight They oten talk about broken glass... Holiday, Panic Song, Viva la Gloria!, 21 Guns...
abhishek Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 the music in the middle albums - insomniac nimrod etc- seemed to have a certain formula. way more variety in the last two albums.
AwesomeAsFudge Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 the rage and love "I'm the son of rage and love " "The rage and love, the story of my life" "Your father's rage and your mother's love"
beejeezee Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I only known this one "You better swallow your pride Or you're gonna choke on it." "I swallowed my pride And I choked on my faith."
Lauralovesgreenday Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 i think that in 1039/SOSH most of the songs are quite similar. there's that constant love theme in it. and also since AI and 21CB are both concept albums they have links running through like rage & love etc. I think the album with most variety is nimrod or warning cause they both have really creative and individual songs in them good thread btw! (:
Kristen M Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 It's not really a lyrical pattern, but the drum entries to static age and the musical version of letterbomb are very similar
fadi_7 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 about broken dreams and streets i heard that in a lot of songs i don't care if you don't most of the songs -J.O.S,pop rocks and COKE .......................................................

Red Lights Flash Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 American Eulogy: "Red alert is the color of panic" "Well I wanna take a ride to the Great Divide" Cigarettes and Valentines: "Red alert is the color of your paper valentines." "Take a ride through the avenues across the Great Divide"
groundpatty Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 American Eulogy: "Red alert is the color of panic" "Well I wanna take a ride to the Great Divide" Cigarettes and Valentines: "Red alert is the color of your paper valentines." "Take a ride through the avenues across the Great Divide" I was just gonna post this. Crazy how similar it is
Satan Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 someone mentioned that he liked the word "suicide" he also likes the word "dream" - dreaming, i was only dreaming - i beg to dream and differ - do you dream too much - then it turned out to only be a dream - dream, america dream - dream about her - this dirty town is burning down in my dreams - economy sized dreams of hope - boulevard of broken dreams (?) ect.
Annie, get your gun Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Yeah, I saw that. But I wouldn't call it a "pattern", to me is just a simple repetition of some words or phrases... I can't remember others besides the ones you guys already mentioned.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 American Eulogy: "Red alert is the color of panic" "Well I wanna take a ride to the Great Divide" Cigarettes and Valentines: "Red alert is the color of your paper valentines." "Take a ride through the avenues across the Great Divide" I still have no idea what "the Great Divide" means, except its literal translation.
fadi_7 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 someone mentioned that he liked the word "suicide" he also likes the word "dream" - dreaming, i was only dreaming - i beg to dream and differ - do you dream too much - then it turned out to only be a dream - dream, america dream - dream about her - this dirty town is burning down in my dreams - economy sized dreams of hope - boulevard of broken dreams (?) ect. -last night i had a DREAM.............. -kiss the demons out of my DREAMS
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Well, to be fair, "dream" is a very normal word which is very popular to use in lyrics, poetry, etc. It's not exactly a very particular or peculiar word to show up a lot in their songs.
green day is Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 someone mentioned that he liked the word "suicide" he also likes the word "dream" - dreaming, i was only dreaming - i beg to dream and differ - do you dream too much - then it turned out to only be a dream - dream, america dream - dream about her - this dirty town is burning down in my dreams - economy sized dreams of hope - boulevard of broken dreams (?) ect. Pretty much EVERY artist overuses the word "dream".
gdpony Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 He uses shadow of a doubt in both hold on and east jesus nowhere.
Amanda Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 There's a beautiful paisley pattern if you close your eyes and play Minority backwards. All oranges and greens.
Tubbie Head Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 suicide! It's not really a lyrical pattern, but the drum entries to static age and the musical version of letterbomb are very similar and also Lights Out
pasalaska Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I still have no idea what "the Great Divide" means, except its literal translation. the great divide is the divide, physically, financially, mentally, etc between the rich and the poor There's a beautiful paisley pattern if you close your eyes and play Minority backwards. All oranges and greens. there's a hint of tartan in Rotting using the same method.
stuart telegraph Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 haha, just joking - I'll do a serious post, I think this is a good thread. The only thing I can think of is a lot of references to the sun and sky, such as: "I sit outside and watch the sunrise, lookout as far as I can" from 2000 lya, "the sun went down and the night fills the sky" from Christie Rd. and many more that I don't feel like think of right now.
