Oh, how I wish I was in my early 20's and lived in the US..

Great to hear it's touring! I'm still hoping it will tour outside of America as well.. soon.

An open call means an open CASTING call. These aren't tour stops, but rather the chance to audition to be in the national tour without being a part of Actor's Equity.

Here's Playbill.com write-up:

The producers of Broadway's American Idiot confirmed the expected on Feb. 23: The rock musical based on Green Day's Grammy Award-winning album will be launched on a national tour this fall. They're looking for newcomers to star.

The tour's start date and city were not announced. An open casting call for all roles will be held in Los Angeles March 5, Toronto March 26, Boston April 9 and Chicago April 23 this spring.

Locations and times for the open-call auditions in Toronto, Boston and Chicago will be announced soon at http://www.facebook.com/americanidiotbroadway.

The open-call auditions seek "male and female rock singers in their early to late 20s. All hopefuls should bring a recent picture, resume and prepare a short rock song. A piano accompanist will be provided. Men who play the guitar should bring one and accompany themselves."

American Idiot's cast album recently won the Grammy Award for Best Show Album. The musical was nominated for a 2010 Tony Award as Best Musical.

Directed by Michael Mayer, who co-wrote the libretto with Green Day front man and lyricist Billie Joe Armstrong, American Idiot (with music by Green Day) takes all of the songs from the famous punk album (and more from Green Day's catalog) and fashions a story of three lifelong friends who choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. "Their quest for meaning in a post 9-11 world leads them on an exhilarating journey," according to producers.

American Idiot continues at Broadway's St. James Theatre.

Anyways, I think it's great that there'll be a tour of AI, so everyone who couldn't go to New York now will have a chance of seeing it :)
