solongfromthestars Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Sorry if this isn't thread-worthy or anything like that. According to Big Cheese, this is the lyric video for Cigarettes and Valentines, which is going to be a single: http://www.bigcheesemagazine.com/news/article/green-day-post-lyrics-video-for-new-single Unfortunately I can't listen to it because my speakers are broken, but apparently it's the audio from Phoenix that's going to be on Awesome as Fuck.
in_your_face Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Well, it's already on GDA and GreenDay.com
solongfromthestars Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 Oh right, sorry I thought that because there wasn't a thread for it already it hadn't been posted. I should get more up to date on the news!
greenbear Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I had seen this already but interestingly it does say that its being released as a single. I didn't know that.
RebelofSuburbia Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Oh this made me re-listen to the song (finally a good edited quality) and now I can't stop listening
Anja Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 It's going to be a single? That's awesome. I hope it won't be too overplayed by the radio stations here though.
agrizotti Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Cool! Nice to know it's going to be a single.
lizziebix Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 It's going to be a single? That's awesome. I hope it won't be too overplayed by the radio stations here though. Actually I hope quite the opposite. I would love for a Green Day single to be played all the time on all the radio stations. They could use some radio airtime love!!
Bastard of 1967 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 It's going to be a single? That's awesome. I hope it won't be too overplayed by the radio stations here though. C&V is one of those few songs that you can't overplay, sort of like the old Def Leppard "Pour Some Sugar On Me". Kicks some serious llama ass and gets the blood pumping every time you hear it. Even though I've heard "Sugar" seemingly five thousand times it still gets my head bobbing. Would love to see C&V go the same way.
Anja Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Yeah, well I thought the same about some of the other songs like LOTAG but back when it was released, it just got overplayed here in my region that I got a little tired of hearing it I hope that wont happen to Cigs&Vals.
Hermione Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 If they made a studio version and a proper video for it I'd like it as a single . Otherwise..........meh. The video's not good enough and a song's never gonna sound as good on a live recording. Releasing a live version of an already-known song I understand - it's cool to hear a different (even if not as good) version. But when there's ONLY a live version, I dunno. Not exactly gonna show the song off to it's full potential for people hearing it the first time.
TheSaltOfTheEarth Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 If it's going to be a single, I'd love for them to put it out as a studio recording. that would be amazing.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I feel kind of awful for not really liking the idea of it becoming a single... it's kind of a thing only fans know about, the song that is, and if it's a single, it won't be anymore... I mean, for a long time everyone only knew about the unreleased album and nothing about its songs (nothing confirmed, that is), then they played it live, and only the big fans knew about it because it was posted about on GDA and GDC and other fansites of the like, but the casual fan probably wouldn't have known about it. And if it becomes a single, a lot more people will get to know the song, and they won't know anything about where it came from or anything, it will just be another song. And it's not really that that bothers me, I mean, the song itself doesn't have a special history, it's more just cool that it "got out", but y'know... I liked that it was something only fans know about. meh, I'm bad
SOB_Edgar A. Poe Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I don't think Green Day will ever release a studio version of C&V. I think it will be purely a live show experience. If they do release a studio track, it will not be for a looooong time. It has been almost 7 years since we even heard it for the first time.... The quality is pretty good on the lyric video... will be even better on Fuck. It will satisfy our needs for Ciggs and Valentines for the time being.
Marlee Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I'm terribly excited for this!!! I was at the Phoenix show so i will be able to hear it AGAIN
petros Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I didn't know it was gonna be released as a single! It's not confirmed yet so I don't think its sure...
Sanity Loan Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I didn't know it was gonna be released as a single! It's not confirmed yet so I don't think its sure... I can't recall a live track bein released as a single from too many bands. I know Metallica did "No Leaf Clover" and probably some other things but other than that.... I think it'd do better if a studio version was released
Sanity Loan Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I'm surprised GD would release the song as a single with no original studio version. It would be awesome to hear on the radio though! I saw some GDC statuses saying that they heard it in the radio
Ila Reto Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 for once, hermione, i must disagree with you! honestly i think a studio version would be devastating, it already ruined When Its Time. i love how they sounds live, much moreso than all of the over-produced sound bytes, autotune and effects. hah but what i got the most kick out of in this video, was that at 0:56-1:00 is the same style as 1:01 in the Stop Drop and Roll video
Laura! Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I saw some GDC statuses saying that they heard it in the radio I heard it on the radio here. 89X in Detroit first played it yesterday at around 4:30. It was in a contest against a Hollywood Undead song last night around 7. I haven't heard it today.
Laurenn Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 well this is cool! I love that picture of the group!
koolkev Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 SINGLE w00000w I'm suprused!!! I'll love it!! I assume it's in the studio for the single, not live?
Of Rage and Love Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I just noticed that these are pictures from the DVD, the crowed has Japanese flags and he's hair's black. Anyway, I think that it would be cool to hear a studio version, I think that if they want to make it a single, it kinda has to be a studio version, idk..
