susanananananaa Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 We're so short on news lately that I figured this is worthy of a new thread. Recent interview with Frank Turner: How was playing the huge shows with Green Day in the Summer? It was great, pretty surreal. It was a learning experience as well as I’ve never played to that many people. We did two shows and before the start of the Manchester show I was pretty nervous, I won’t lie. The funny thing about Manchester was that our dressing room was a box at the side of the cricket ground, the whole place was empty and it was fucking huge. So we did sound check and went to sit back in the box. Then they opened the gates and all of a sudden, this fucking, tidal wave of humanity came in, people running to get down to the front, it looks like the fucking Orcs in Lord of the Rings charging (laughs) and then we though ‘Oh shit!’ But this thing is by the end of the Manchester show I was like ‘Oh yeah, I can fucking do this!’ So Wembley felt like, ‘come on, I’ll take you on motherfuckers’, we had a good show and we had a good time. The Green Day guys were really nice as well… Did you get to meet them? Very briefly. They watched our set both days and after the Wembley show there was a bottle of Champagne waiting in our dressing room with ‘Love from Green Day’ written on it. Their dressing room was miles away from ours, but we ran into them in the corridor just before they went on and they took the time to stop and say thanks for doing the shows, so that was good. greendaytone Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Awesome, thanks for posting that. I'm a little surprised he didn't get to spend more time with them actually. Oh, and for any people in the London area, apparently Frank Turner is playing a secret show tonight in Camden!
madddie Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 'After the Wembley show there was a bottle of Champagne waiting in our dressing room with ‘Love from Green Day’ written on it.' Thats so cute!!

I love him.
Stormy Haze Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 That was great to read, thanks for posting!
jake smith Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Frank Turner's a cool guy, and so are the guys in Green Day. i think more bands should be like them and take the time to appreicate the fans who pays to see them, or in this case the support act, no matter how small a gesture it is
Tripe Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I love that visual..."Like Orcs in Lord of the Rings!" So true, too. I also found it interesting that they didn't have much interaction with Green Day at all. I think we all kind of envision the backstage area like some big party fun scene where everyone is interacting and hanging out. Nice that Green Day (or someone from their management, anyway) took a moment to acknowledge them with a small gift.
Libby :) Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Thanks for posting! Frank's music is very different from Green Day's, but I still love it! <3
bat-chen Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 We're so short on news lately that I figured this is worthy of a new thread. Recent interview with Frank Turner: You can read the full interview at http://www.subba-cultcha.com/features/article.php?contentID=22786 Of course it's worth a new theard. I mean, it's Frank Turner plus Green Day
Holly Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Awh, that was lovely to read! Thanks for posting! I freaking adore Frank so much. Frank Turner + Green Day = my favourite things I'm so unbelievably glad that he opened at Manchester and Wembley because if not I probably would never have been introduced to his music and now I absolutely adore it

OliDayyy Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Nice from them! I didn't know where to put this, but now there is this topic, I guess I can post it there: It's about Paramore, when they opened for Green Day last summer, I don't know if it was in Dublin or Paris, but Hayley WIlliams told this: we hung out with Green Day in their dressing room after the show. they were jamming Ramones and talking and we had a great time. http://paramoreband.livejournal.com/75643.html?thread=22404219#t22404219
