Axel Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 From the year Green Day formed, 1987, to 1989, Green Day (Sweet Children) released one EP. 1000 Hours. From 1990 to 1999, Green Day released, 2 EPS, and 5 Studio albums, (Slappy, Sweet Children EP, 39/Smooth, Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod) From 2000 to 2010 - Green Day only released 3 studio albums. Warning, American Idiot, 21'st Century Breakdown) Also, I'm not counting compilation albums and live albums, since no real new material is released. Also, even on the Shenanigans compilation, most songs were recoded in the 90's. So does anyone have any ides why Green Day seems to be slowing down? If they keep it at this rate they won't be very very popular in a few years,
Lindsay Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 It's because they're putting a lot more time and work into their albums. Plus their tours seem to be longer and they need time to take a break too. And honestly, it shouldn't matter how long it takes for them to put out an album - as long as it's good, that's all that matters.
Liam Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 You have to also remember from 2000 - 2010 Green Day also released a Network album, a Foxboro Hot Tubs album and did the instruments for the American Idiot Musical cast recording.
Clayish Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 They put more effort in their albums, and they tour extensively. They are not slower.
green day is Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 You have to also remember from 2000 - 2010 Green Day also released a Network album, a Foxboro Hot Tubs album and did the instruments for the American Idiot Musical cast recording. + The Frustrators and Pinhead Gunpowder and helped organize a bunch of stuff for the musical.
Liam Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 + The Frustrators and Pinhead Gunpowder and helped organize a bunch of stuff for the musical. I was just pointing out the main stuff but yes that to.

SixtiesJunkiie Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Yeah, plus their side bands too. I prefer them putting more work into their albums/tours/other projects, even if it's less albums.

Burnout98 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 They aren't slow, they are just taking their time and putting a lot of effort in to their albums. Also some side projects in between. I don't care how long it takes for them to make a new album, the quality is always fantastic! People should just be patient and appreciate how hard Green Day work and their music!
Katarina. Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Lol, who cares about them losing their popularity. I don't think they will anyway. Besides, their records keep getting better and better, cause they're putting more thought and effort in there, which is not "being slower at making music". I'd rather wait a bit longer for another epic record, than to have a new record out next year with all the songs they've written now. I know the next record will be great, and for that to happen it just needs some time! It's Green Day after all.
Kayfabe Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 not slower, more careful. making dookie they had just signed up to a new label and they've admitted to really rushing insomniac (to bring in more big $$$ for the brand? who knows)
euphoric-pareidolias Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 They're not slower. They're adults now and have their own lives outside of green day. Plus, they are just putting a lot more work into their music now and their tours are much bigger/longer. And as someone else said you cant forget side projects like the newtork and FBHT. It shouldn't matter how long it takes for another album to be released, as long as their music is still awesome and the guys are ok and they're happy, that's all the counts
clairex Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 They are now in a postion that they can take their time. There old records will still be selling making money. The record company can release greatest hits/live albums which will sell well. A new band doesn't usually have that luxury as they have to prove themselves as a good investment to the record company, they want their money back.
rinu Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Maybe they need some time to rest and they have a life. They need to work on album maybe,it's not an easy thing. And I'm impatient normally but I can wait for Green Day,how long it takes.
E!!i Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I only can agree on what you all said, they need time to make fantastic records and that's normal. And I recognized this: 1994: dookie + 1 year 1995: Insomniac + 2 years 1997: nimrod + 3 years 2000: Warning + 4 years 2004: american idiot + 5 years 2009: 21st Century Breakdown + 6 yers 2015: ? after dookie the time of making a record always increased of 1 year, but I hope it won't last til 2015, I think they will release a new record in 2012 or 2013
colour_me_stupid_ Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 God no, the 5 years we had to wait for 21st CB after American Idiot felt like 5 months, not years
musse Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I do hope it won't take another 5 years before they release a new album but I still think it's good they don't rush things...
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Mike's got a young family to look after (a teenager, toddler and newborn at the same time can't be easy), Billie does the odd thing anyway and Tre's just spent months drumming manically for hours on end everyday. I honestly don't mind them taking a break. I think some people have a slight sense of entitlement sometimes.
Zero. Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I don't think I really pay that much attention (Like time between albums) to other bands to really know if Green Day are slower or not... But I've always Green Day have done other things to keep us interested, like said before the FBHT, The Network etc. etc. And what I do know is more than what a lot of other bands do.
in_your_face Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 They're not lagging behind. you can't compare a senior band to some punk bands. it's because they put a lot of effort in producing the best album for their fans. they're soo much dedicated to their work that they do not have the time to view their history even in a blink of an eye. they might have composed over a hundred songs during the '90s, but that doesn't mean that they're struck aback. they just do it patiently with much dedication. they want the world to listen to real music, and not just some crap!
fadi_7 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 don't forget they have family now to take care of and they were in the tour and they are writing all the time and it's not easy thing to write songs
Noy Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 i think bout that a lot ..anyway i hope that they will make a new album and put it up fast
radioactive Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I think they are just working harder to make the albums better and better, and in my opinion they are just getting better and the tours are longer. Plus foxboro hot tubs, the network and pinhead gunpowder, so I don't think they are slow. And they probably also spend some time with their families too. And if they lose popularity, I don't care. Popular music isn't always the best music!
