Do you take out the "and" as well??

"Tragic a la madness and concrete, coca-cola execution".

And for some reason I think there's a thread for this somewhere.

God, where do I even start...Billie is an intelligent individual, so to speak  , but to be honest....some of the fuckin things he writes make no fuckin sense, but they may hold a special meaning to him, so that's all that matters..

p.s I realize that Tre and Mike also sometimes contribute lyrics to songs, but for the most part, Billie is the main lyricist...

I agree with this 100%! He also tries to write in a way where people can interpret the lyrics for themselves so he tries to make them very vague and sometimes they come out confusing. Even Mike and Tré have said that they sometimes have no idea what Billie's lyrics mean, and they're in the band! :D

Yeah

"Tragic a la madness and concrete, coca-cola execution".

That is the only one that I can think of, I love how little sense it makes xD

So it's more like he's telling a pressure cooker to pick his brain and tell him he's insane....

Even more confusing.

I always interpreted that one as him finding it sad how everything is so urbanized (madness and concrete = cities) and commercialized (coca-cola execution = consumerism will be the end of us), but maybe that's just me.

I don't really understand the line in JoS "The center of the earth is the end of the world", but it sounds cool at least, hehe. Oh, and I fail to see the relation between the 21 guns salute and the meaning of the song 21 Guns. :P

"Bringing on the fury

The choir infantry

Revolt against the honor to obey

Overthrow the effigy

The vast majority

Burning down the foreman of control"

and

"Red alert is the color of panic

Elevated to the point of static"

Apparently, they initially thought to call the song I Hate You, but found it was too obvious a title. Billie had always wanted to have a song called Platypus and, well, yeah.

Most of the ones mentioned so far can really make sense with interpretation. Of course they don't make sense on a litral level, how many songs at all are that literal?

I mean- great lyrics don't just put the point out there for all to see, they allow you to figure it out for yourself, and develop your own ideas.

'The centre of the earth' he's refering to is 'the centre of the earth in the parking lot of the 7-11 where I was taught' - he's saying that that parking lot is the end of the world, because the character od JOS can't escape his town and that parking lot, to him that parking lot is his world.

Ah, ok! Thanks! :)

21 guns, in my opinion, is about Christian and Gloria making up after a fight. but it's a metaphor for someone who died in war, it talks about how it wasn't worth it "do you know what's worth fighting for, when it's not worth dying for?", and at the chorus is happening while the man is receiving the 21 guns salute "1, 21 guns". Now they talk about how we should end the war "lay down your arms, give up the fight"

then at the end of the chorus: "you and i". they're talking to the enemy, and how both of us should end the war. at least that's how i see it.

I hope that made sense :/

Ok, I just searched online and found out why I was confused: different countries have different traditions regarding the salute. In Canada, it's often used to greet high-ranking people like members of the Royal Family, the Governor General, and foreign heads of state. So you see why I REALLY didn't see the relation.

Exactly. All lyrics are up for interpretation and discussion, that's the wonderful thing about them. Just because the meaning isn't immediately obvious it doesn't mean they don't make sense. Working out, discussing and thinking about your own interpretations is the good part!

I didnt even know there was a 21 Guns salute...

I just figured it was a random phrase that worked lyrically in the song

Well I could be way off I guess, but the way I always thought of it was some person who has obviously done something wrong is begging for mercy. Like they're "looking for forgiveness" from being stoned? Like not getting high stoned, but like, getting killed by rocks, stoned. I could be wrong though.

I get the first part of it, but looking for forgiveness from a stone?
