Guest Honey Emerald Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Do you remember anything that was on television about Green Day when Kerplunk came out? If so... what do you remember please?
SuzieCreamCheese Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 not on television but I was living in San Francisco in 89-90 and I thought that I saw them play in Golden Gate park but that might have been too early. I thought that a friend of mine had the tape of Kerplunk too - and I think I remember her saying there was a scene in Berkley. Hard to remember stuff clearly - I was pretty young - really wouldn't have answered but I see no one else has.
J'net Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Do you remember anything that was on television about Green Day when Kerplunk came out? If so... what do you remember please? I remember what house I lived in (in L.A.) and I remember U2's "Numb" video on MTV all the time (this is around the general time when I first listened to Kerplunk - not sure how long it had been out). I don't remember ever seeing anything about Green Day on TV at that time, but it would have been pretty odd if I had.
sirmazer Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I remember there being a buzz about dookie a couple months before it was released but I don't remember hearing/seeing anything before that. Being from NJ and being 10 at the time of Kerplunks release, obviously I was not a regular at Gilman but I will never forget listening to kerplunk when my dad got it when it came out and thinking that christie road was one of the greatest songs I had ever heard. Almost two decades later, I still love it just as much as I did when I was 10
in_your_face Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 i wasn't even born during the Kerplunk era. Many, actually.

ParadoxAndPlaid Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 This is a good question, I doubt there was much 'big time' coverage of Green Day during Kerplunk, but I bet there was some from local stations, papers or filmmakers taking interest. Sadly I was a one year old on the east coast when it was released, and my musical taste had not yet blossomed. But when I have some free time, I'll look around for news articles and video clips and stuff. If anyone lives around the Berkley area, you should check out the community libraries and see if the have a local new archive available; for all we know there is information sitting on some shelf that hasn't made it to the internet yet.
in_your_face Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 So why reply? 'cause you won't get the desired result. Maybe you'll get a few replies back. that's all you could expect.

I was a baby of 1 year too (I know this is unnecessary )
abhishek Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 i was 2....but i became a fan immediately after listening.
dawn71 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I saw them live in Florida before Kerplunk ever came out. I saw them in several concerts after Kerplunk came out, but I never saw any media coverage about it around that time. The only reason I even knew they existed is through a friend of mine that spent summers with his father in Oakland, Ca. The only advertising I ever saw were some flyers that were posted around town about their concert. I actually still have some of those flyers from way back then.
shit Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I doubt that there was anything about them on tv around Kerplunk. If there ever was anything though, it was probably more of a local thing than on a major station. There's stuff about them in old zines though, if you're just wondering about publicity. I've seen advertisements that promoted both Kerplunk and 39 Smooth. There's also band interviews, and album reviews out there from Kerplunk.
