Next Album- Concept album or not?

My friend Whitney and I were debating whether the next album will be more like AI/21CB or whether it will be more like Dookie.

I think it'll be more like the older albums but she is convinced it'll be another concept album.

Your thoughts?

I don't know. I mean, I've loved AI and 21stCB but another one? Surely it might be too samey.

But, who knows, I'm sure I'll be impressed with whatever they write about.

I personally think that they should veer away from the whole concept album thing. I mean, I would love to hear another Warning/Nimrod type album myself.

Personally, I'm hoping it's not another concept album, because, well, they've done two a row now, and the second one --- While being absolutely fantastic --- Didn't quite measure up to the first, and that worries me, because what if the third doesn't match up to the second, y'know?

Plus, I just want new lyrics and music straight from Billie, Mike, and Tré, not from characters or alter egos they've created. ((As awesome as those characters and alter egos may be! ))

To be honest I dont care but I would like it more if they did not do another concept album. "Fuck the new songs the old songs are better anyway."

This. Warning is still my favorite album. I don't like 21st/breakdown. I haven't listened to a 21st/breakdown song in a few months. I don't even know the titles to the songs. I would prefer green day go back to a older style

i think it'll be like their older albums. I'm actually pretty convinced, but i would like one last concept album in their future (whether it be the next one or one after that).

EDIT: looking at these replies, i think i'm the only one who wants another concept album some time

I'm sure if they do end up doing another concept album, it will be very different from AI and 21stCB. I say that because even though both those albums qualify as "concept" one of them (AI) tells a complete story, while the other one shows different aspects of the lives of more "symbolic" characters rather than people.

Who knows what they'll do for a new album

Didn't Billie Joe say this one wasn't going to be a concept album? But you never know with them. I'd prefer they ventured outside of the concept album idea and tried something new, but hey, their music is always great, so whatever they do will be great nonetheless.

Whatever it is, I know it'll be awesome because it's Green Day, so I wouldn't mind another concept album at all. That being said, I don't think they will do another one. I don't think they're going to go completely back to their roots, but I don't think they'll do another completely political Breakdown-esque concept album either (not that I don't like 21stCB - I love it, but I think it's enough). Somewhere in between, or half-and-half or something would be best.

i think theyll go away from a concept album just because they already did that with 21CB

AI had astrong story while 21CB had a weak story but had good songs

and it doesn't matter cuz i will get it anyways
