scottrowan200 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 - i found this vid that someone made and i agree that these songs sound the same melody heers the original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jtAKYGsEuo&feature=related
Juliette Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Haha, I've always thought the "Downtown, lights will be shining" bit sounds like that song. Tbh though, it's hard to find a song that doesn't have some similarities to another song, seeing as people often use the same chord progressions / bits of melody etc.
Bohemian+Scandal Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Yeah, this has been pointed out before. My guess is that it was deliberate just like Warning using the same riff as The Kinks' Picture Book.
ConfirmPassword Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Yeah I agree But the first time my parents heard Waiting they began to sing another song that wasnt this one
sara_gd Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 My mum starts singing a Green Day song and ends up singing another one, all the time
Alan86 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I think Billie put the words "down town" into the lyrics on purpose cause he knew the songs were similar
Hermione Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I think Billie put the words "down town" into the lyrics on purpose cause he knew the songs were similar Yeah me too. It's a nice little acknowledgement of the similarity, like he's tipping his hat to the other song. I like it The album Warning borrows from several classic songs, I think it was deliberate and Green Day would freely admit to it. It's a nod to that style and those songs that influenced the style and sound of the album.
manilla Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 hmm, that's interesting. btw, i love ''Downtown'' i'm singing it so loudly right now it was in some movie, anyone remember which one?
scottrowan200 Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 it probs is in a lot of movies but i know its in JAWS 2 cause i watched it few nights ago
pasalaska Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I've never noticed that before but I guess it's just like the whol BOBD/Wonderwall thing - songs will always have acertain amount of similarity to another song simply because of timing/melody/chord progressions. Billie's voice tuned down in that video is really weird to hear
