Francois Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 IGNORE RECORDING QUALITY DIFFERENCE Thought it might be interesting to hear what you guys thought. I remember when the album came out, many people said that they liked the leaked version of the song more. The versions don't have any drastic differences, but there certainly are a few: 1. The intro to the leaked version is an awesome piano part. Personally I like that more than the slightly boring repeated guitar riff intro to the album version. 2. Some of the vocals' melodies are slightly different. Example: "Last one born and the first one to run" is more epic in the album version. 3. The lyrics in the second part of the song ("My name is no one, the long lost son...") is almost completely different. I actually prefer the album versions' lyrics. 4. The album version has some rhythm and riff changes that, for me, make the song more epic. That's one of the things that make this song so awesome for me; it's epicness. Overall I prefer the album version over the leaked version, but it would've been awesome if they had included the leaked version's piano intro in the real song.
Bubbles. Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I love both, if I'm honest. Although I'm not sure if I prefer the piano part or the guitar riff, probably the piano part because it was really beautiful. I love the lyrics from both, but the album version's feel more powerful. So overall, I'd say the album version.
Punk-tastic32 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Why can I not remember the leaked version? I listened to it only a million times...
xjernpqvrnbfv Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hmm I can't decide.. I love the piano intro, but the Album version is epic too.
GreeN_DaY_4_EveR Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Both piano part and guitar riff on the intro are awesome and i like them. The lyrics from the album are better with a faster rythm. So,i prefer the studio version
Alan86 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I love the leaked version. The piano is just brilliant in it. I don't listen to it that much anymore. When I do though it always brings back that feeling of anticipation for the new album I had when I first listened to the leaked version.
Juliette Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Pretty sure there's already a thread for this... I like both but think the album version works better for the album as a whole.
Slappy. Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Well the piano in the leaked version is amazing But then I think the lyrics are way more improved in the Album version, so yeah I like both, I can't choose
petros Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 The piano in the leaked version is what it makes it so special. But otherwise I prefer the album version more...
bjrules Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I can remember being really disappointed when the album version came out that the piano intro part wasn't there, but overall I prefer the album version, I think the lyrics go better in that version. I would have rathered them leave the piano bit in, I love that part so much.
Kaddi. Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I prefer the leaked version. I just love the piano intro and I also like the old lyrics a bit more than the new ones. Plus, it's just this feeling that is linked with the leaked version. Listening to the first new Green Day song in years was incredebly awesome and everytime I listen to the leaked version again, a bit of that feeling comes back.
Francois Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 I prefer the leaked version. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. This was the beginning of my 21st Century Breakdown experience. I still remember first listening to the leaked version.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I absolutely love the piano intro in the leaked version But the guitar intro (and isn't there a piano in there as well?) works really well as a slow build-up, I like that too. It's just slightly boring. For the rest, it's hard to judge because of the quality difference. And because the leaked version is attached the the whole "omg new song new material NEW SONG!!!!!!!!!! " feeling. Even though I'd only listened it once or twice, before I decided I wouldn't listen to any new things. But still, it reminds me of that. I really can't decide. The leaked version was a work still in progress. And I'm so used to the album version, that the leaked version sounds a bit alien, with the extra verse and stuff. But I like the line "from Mexico to the Berlin Wall" much better than "video games of the towers' fall". Soo it's kind of a tie. I like them both a lot.
ParadoxAndPlaid Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I really do like the lyrics in the leaked version better. The changed were not bad, but I don't understand why they were made at all. As said; the line "from mexico to the Berlin wall" is a good example of changes that should not have happened. And I personally like the raw sound of the leaked one.
Ally Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I've always preferred the leaked version, the piano on the beginning, the lyrics they changed. I even like the pure rawness of it, its just better than the proper version imo.
Jaymee!! Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I used to prefer the leaked version MUCH more than the album version for the longest time, but after seeing performed live so many times this summer I have to go with the album version. I just love the piano at the bit, I wish they could've left that in somehow...but yeah. Album version.
Pres Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I like both versions and i like the album version better over all but i always liked the lyrics "there is a war thats inside my head the questions the results and lies, i'm breaking my back till im damn near well dead when enough ain't enough to survive" from the leeked version
Stormy Haze Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I've always prefered the leaked version... maybe it's the piano intro that makes it so special, I don't know.
Hermione Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I really can't decide. I LOVE the piano on the leaked version, but there's other elements of the music I prefer on the album version - I agree about the "epicness" of it. As for the lyrics it's the same thing again. On the leaked version, I'm taking a loan on my sanity for the redemption of my soul. What a line! I don't know HOW he could leave that out from the final version. But then the album version has, I've swallowed my pride and I've choked on my faith, I've given my heart and my soul I've broken my fingers and lied through my teeth... I just love that imagery. There's so many things I love about each version I can't pick a favourite. So glad we have both of them to listen to so I don't have to!
TheSaltOfTheEarth Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I voted for the album version, but I'm really on the fence about this. Because the finished product has a sort of EPICNESS or magnificence about it that the other one doesn't have. I really love the piano, though, but the guitar's also pretty awesome. As for the lyrics, I really don't know. they're both so amazing. In one you have lyrics like "I've been to the edge and I've thrown the bouquet of flowers left over the grave, I sat in the waiting room, wasting my time and waiting for judgement day." and in the other one, one of my favourite lines of all time, "I'm taking a loan on my sanity for the redemption of my soul, well I am exempt from this tragedy and the 21st century fall" So, how can you really choose?
Clayish Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Album version by far. I really don't understand the absolute "love" for the piano intro on the demo. It's really not that great in my opinion.
PanicAttack! Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 (AV) Album Version vs Leaked Version (LV) Intro: AV 0-1 LV Era/Bygones of heroes and cons: AV 1-1 LV Harmonic in "The last one born": AV 2-1 LV "I'm taking a loan on my sanity" AV 2-2 LV "I've been to the edge and i've thrown the buquet" AV 3-2 LV "There is a war that's inside my head" AV 3-3 LV "I swallowed my pride and i've choked on my faith" AV 4-3 LV "Scream, America scream" vs "Bleed, Ameica bleed" AV 5-3 LV There you have it. It was a close race.
Marlee Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 i wish someone could mix the 2 songs together, because i love both versions, but in separate parts. i like the begining of the leaked version (the piano) and i prefer the way Billie sings the line "last one to run" in the leaked version. the other lines that are changed in the song, i like both songs, as if they were completely 2 separate songs and the very last line i believe changes too, something about "scream america scream" i think changes to "bleed"
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I'm taking a loan on my sanity for the redemption of my soul. This line is simply amazing. Such a shame they didn't put that in the album version, because it really is amazing.
