justcause Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 First and always, the music - it's just so fucking great. I love it that they care so much about songs, and about making each new album a new place. I love it that they constantly challenge me. I love it that they play shows that could raise the fucking dead. I love it that there's explosions and fire and confetti and that Tre wears a red bra. I love it that Mike has his rock'n'roll snarl and that he looks like a manga hero. I love it when people who don't get Green Day don't get it. I fucking love this band.
Fuzz Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Yay! Happy thread. First and foremost, the lyrics. Billie's way with words has always been spectacular to me. That's why Warning remains one of my favorite albums. There are lines in there that can make me pause and think "damn, that's awesome" when trying to figure out what they mean "So I run to the edge Beyond the shadow of a doubt With my conscience bleeding Here lies the truth The lost treasures of my youth As I hold on to the break of the day" There are poets out there who can't write that good. Or at least they don't get my attention

'Here lies the truth'. Goes without saying - but I'll say it anyway - that what I love most of all about Billie Joe's lyrics are the truth of them, in a world of spin and shit - that, together with his search for the truth. Always remember when you brought up 'blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts', and that caused me to see it. And incidentally - love to see you posting, Andres.

I remember bringing that up, and that is still one of my favorite lines. Even now as you posted it, I stop and re-read it a few times trying to make sense of it and why it sounds so great. I feel like I want that line plastered on my walls so I can see it every day.

Heather! Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 The way they interact with the audience at their shows: how Mike gives out fistfuls of picks to the crowd at the end of the show, and how they pull so many fans on stage, and all of the communication between the pit and the band. It's always so amazing to me how the crowd is just as much a part of the concert as the band is.
justcause Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 I love it that Billie Joe changes his hair color on a whim, and that it's SUCH A BIG DEAL to everyone. I love it that people totally respond to the giving that Green Day gives, that they let it change their lives and rock their world, no matter what anyone else thinks. I love it that they revere their heroes so much that Mike's kid is called Brixton, and that they bowed down to John Lennon's voice when they did Working Class Hero on American Idol.

I about shit when he came on stage at Camden with his gray and black striped pants
heartscollide Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Like people have said before, I love their stage presense. It seems like none of them steal the show off eachother. Like Mike and Tre Just let Billie Joe do what he does best and they seem to have a lot of fun on stage. I love that their fanbase is so different from every other band. Once you get into Green Day it's like they pull you in and you have to buy all their CDs and know all their lyrics. I can't think of anything else atm.

justcause Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 I love it that this one time when I heard 'Redundant' on the radio, it hit me that not only was it different from anything else that was being played right then, but that it would always be different from anything else that was being played, whenever it was played. I love it that whereas American Idiot was totally in synch with the flow, 21CB was totally against it. I love it that Foxboro Hot Tubs is so hot, so poetic, so dark and light and wild and free.
AfterShock Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I love their versatility as artists. Every album has a different feel to it, so there's a Green Day album for almost every mood I'm in I love that. And of course Billie's lyrics are just incredible.
whatsername343 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 first of all the music and lyrics like everyone said. But what i really love is that they care about their fans so much And not every band puts on a 3 hour show every night so thats also something i really love about them And they still seem so down to earth after all these years...
ganis Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I'd say everything... but that's kindoff plain.. so I'll try. First and all I love their music, I would never be into the band if it wasn't for the music. I love the way Billie writes music I love how funny they are I love their live shows I love how they teached me that you should be your self and not taking anyones shit I love how they care about the fans I love how they always are down to earth I could go on forever... but thet would just bore you
Holly Ann Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 The way they don't give a damn about what people think of them, and they're not afraid to put their views out there. How long they have lasted, also. And onstage, just wow. There's not many bands who are that good at performing live and looking after their fans. They seem to make every second you've been a GD fan worth it with that opening song. and, um, yeah. OMFG EVERYTHING. They also helped me to accept being me, of which I have great respect for them for.
rocklover92 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Wow! Interesting topic. So what do I like about Green Day? Er... They're very individual. I hadn't seen such an amusing band before.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 So much. Their music, how they go about the music. How they keep evolving and don't just stick to a formula or go the easy way. Billie's lyrics, some of it is brilliant. Their live shows, how they interact with everyone and each other and really like their shows, and put their heart and soul into it. And it's just a fucking good show, both entertainment-wise as just that the music sounds really good live. I can't just write down and explain what I love about them... sometimes it just is. And it's too much. I'm reading this thread and it's just like 'yeah, that! And that! and that! '
Marki. Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Yay! Happy thread. First and foremost, the lyrics. Billie's way with words has always been spectacular to me. There are poets out there who can't write that good. Or at least they don't get my attention Yay And yes, lyrics Totally agree with everything you said... Yesterday I read the lyrics to Dookie after quite a long time and some of the songs are genius... There's something great about Bille's lyrics on every album, from songs like 16 which are totally true to more poetic songs on 21st century breakdown... And Insomniac is a genious album too, in my opinion... There's a plague inside of me Eating at my disposition Nothing's left Torn out of reality Into a state of no opinion Limp with hate Oh and to add something, I love Mike's songs - when he decides to write, it's always amazing J.A.R. is one of my all time favorite Green Day songs...and I think songs like Emenius Sleepus don't get enough attention - I didn't know the lyrics to that one for the longest time, but it's such a true song, I love it. =)
fadi_7 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 i love the way the think love their songs i love how they care about the earth i love them cause they are all cool and i love them cause they are green day
Holly Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I love how I have just been sucked in to this world of Green Day, they pulled me in over five years ago and they're amazing enough for me not to have even slightly drifted away in that time. I just can't get bored of them. Billie's lyrics, when you stop and think about them they are so beautiful. Their shows are indescribable, how everyone feels involved and how those days mean so much to me and other fans. The best days of my life. Andddd I love their fans. I have met the most amazing people because of Green Day and I have never come across fans of any other band who are as loyal and devoted as we are. I have never spoke to any one with as much passion for their band as we all have and it just makes me feel like I'm part of this big family with so many people that understand me. At gigs for other bands I have turned up to queue at 3pm for a 7.30pm show and I've been at the front of the queue, I would never dream of turning up so late to see Green Day! I love that they have been together so long so there is just so much music. Whatever mood I'm in there will be a Green Day song for me to listen to. I barely ever listen to music other than Green Day. Oh, and omfg Billie Joe is so HAWTTTT :eyebrow:
Katarina. Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 The music, the lyrics, the epic live shows. And I LOVE Nimrod.
