Guest derekb Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 So I found this Facebook group and apprently this Argentinean musical has ripped off the American Idiot Musical. Both sets look the exacly identical. Heres 2 videos: So what do you guys thing? Can they sue? Also I can't find the facebook group any more so if some one has a link to it than please post.
st.idiot Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 personally i don't think it's worth it at all. sure some of the scenerey looks a little similar but i mean what about the coreaographer. if they have the same coreaographer than it's a different story
watsername182 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Also I can't find the facebook group any more so if some one has a link to it than please post. You mean this group? http://www.facebook.com/pages/Plagiarism-to-the-American-Idiot-musical/142076269150467?ref=mf Hmm, the set design does look very similar to American Idiot.
RobyRoom Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I think they should sue that, tbh. I bet even the storyline is similar
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 That set does look very similar to the AI set... but I don't know if they could sue. After all, the only things that are the same are that it's a wall that (looks like it) has pamphlets all over, and the tv screen. For the rest, it's a different musical, different music, and different things used (lol what are those called again?). Can't say anything about the choreography, but since it's different music I would think it can't be too similar.
Lauren Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 They're not using any of the images. You can place stairs and couches or anything wherever you want. It's not the same songs, not the same set. Yeah, it looks similar. but they're not using any of the AI logos or anything.
farley drexel hatcher Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 They could possibly have the same set designer. More than likely not, but you never know. It is very similar, though
RobyRoom Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I basically don't like the fact that they are using the similarity with AI to make a profit. I think it's also kind of misleading for the people who are going, cause I guess that they might be thinking that the musical is a sort of free adaptation from AI (well maybe it's really a free adaptation and I don't know how the copyright's rules would work for that) or somehow related with the band or the original musical. Edit: and btw in the first video, "Vuelvo a Casa" means "Homecoming", so they're really playing with the similarities way too much.
in_your_face Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 very similar to AI Musical. and .. the songs too.
ifmemoryserves Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Yeah......pretty sure that's an exact copy of the musical. Oh well the songs are different but idk.... Like that's scarily similar.
Mauri Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 eeenteresting. when are these videos from? It's from "Casi Angeles" An argentinean TV show that turned into a musical...
Fuzz Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I doubt they're losing customers because of this musical. They have a couple platforms, a large wall with screens on it. If this was based off a tv show that turned into a musical, I don't really see how American Idiot should worry too much about it. If it was a "new" musical, that was "inspired" by AI - then I'd say to worry.
1039slappygirl Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 It looks really similar, but I don't think they deserve to be sued.
gdpony Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 they shouldn't sue, but it does have a lot similarities!
