Are Green Day and the AI cast getting annoying

Alright this is my first time starting a topic on this site so here is goes. Is anyone else pissed that the AI cast is always tagging along and performing with Green Day on any event that might get them some half decent publicity for the song they are promoting. This thing with the Jets home opener is fucking bullshit. I refuse to watch. I am fucking sick and motherfucking tired of that cast coming in and ruining televised Green Day concerts. They do a good job of singing but that belongs in the fucking play not every damn appearance Green Day makes on a tv show. This play thing is ruining Green Day and I have never dared to say this because this has always been a lie until now. We as Green Day fans need to realize the possibility that Green Day has sold out. It kills me to write something like this against them, but I'm calling it as it is. Green Day had a great chance to perform on Monday night football. Everyone watches it. But instead of embracing this opertunity they decide to piss on it and to make sure that we don't see an awesome Green Day performance, and to see to it that we get a bunch of shit and watch other fucking people sing for the band that we've loved and cherished for so long.

You make it sound like the cast is "tagging" along. I'm positive Green Day is inviting the cast to come along with them. They like what they do, and enjoy being with them.

Yeah I understand they invite them but I'm so upset that I can't watch Green Day play on Monday Night Football. The cast ruins it for me and I wish Green Day would just be Green Day and use this great opertunity to promote themselves and their album. Not the musical. The musical isn't Green Day. They are related but the musical isn't "Green Day"

I agree, I think it was great for the Grammy's or whatever but not for a football game... especially LOTAG. omg, it's one of the only songs the AI cast KILLED (most of their songs are great or even better than green day's).

but i don't think they shouldn't have had the musical or anything.

I agree. I was never a massive fan of the musical in the first place.

I much rather just see Green Day perform.

I do get annoyed about hearing or reading or seeing the AI musical cast, I mean like you said they sing good but i would like my Green Day and Musical Cast to be seperate. other then that all i can do for now is ignore all the news about them because apparently other people like them as much as the band, and they kind of did get more people into listening to green day so i cant complain much. but I understand what you mean.

I dont find it annoying at all, the guys are really proud of the musical.

which has been doing great and Im dying to see :(

I had slight hope for the whole cast thing until the album came out. That basically killed it for me. It is kind of annoying when I see something and it's like "Green Day and he cast of American Idiot blah blah blah". I don't know, I was never too hot on the whole musical thing, and I'm still not.

It almost seems like they want to give more promotion to the "musical" than to green day themselves, they should think it twice, after all 21stCB hasnt been exactly a smash hit you know?

I'm on the fence about this.

The musical excites me (drama kid, right here!), so I never minded the fact that they were making it.

And I can see why they invite them to perform with them.

The cast work their asses off and put on great shows to bring the band's music to life, and televised appearences are like Green Day's way of thanking them, and letting them show off their hard work.

In my opinion, anyway.

But yes, sometimes I too roll my eyes when I hear the choir behind the band.

Because sometimes damnit, I just want to hear Green Day...

As annoying as it might seem, it's very smart. American Idiot is Green Day's little pet project right now, and they're going to promote it. American Idiot was a big CD that really rocketed them up in the charts, and now they're simply transferring that energy to the musical cast that they've worked years on making. Personally, I think their version of LOTAG is better than Green Day's; the spins between Last Of The American Girls, She's A Rebel, and St. Jimmy blend perfectly together. It can be annoying, but you guys have to realize that this is their project, and they're going to promote it. 21st Century Breakdown's been out for a year, they're not pushing it anymore, if at all. It's just how they're choosing to do their own thing, and we just have to respect it as fans.

I feel like I'm biased but I love Green Day but I also love the cast members. Some of the cast members, I've been watching their career for years and I am so proud of them for what they've been able to accomplish and go against the odds and say, "Yes, rock music CAN make a great musical and we're gonna prove it." (Wow, THAT was a huge run-on sentence) And the guys seem really proud of them and invite them to do stuff because the guys are like that. To me, it's not just a publicity stunt. It's the guys being the wonderful artists that they are and showing off the cast. That's not annoying to me.

LOTAG wouldn't be my first choice for them to perform but at least they aren't doing 21 Guns again.

Live in your room. Don't watch TV. Keep your website visits limited. You'll do fine. I don't hear about them all that much because I do all that stuff.

Of course some people need social lives to live.

Try not to get so upset about it though, they'll calm down about it eventually. :) Things come and go, and I'd say in at least a couple months' time, the whole Cast thing will have gone. And I really don't think Green Day has sold out. They're wonderful, nice guys who are good friends with the cast, and Billie himself has said that they can do his songs more justice than himself. That's quite modest of him y'know.

I understand that. Listen they did a great job with the musical but that doesn't mean they half to play at every damn event the guys play at. The musical is not real Green Day music. It is someone elses creation that was inspired by Green Day. And it annoys the hell outta me that I can't just watch my favorite band play (especially on my favorite sport). Common it's the Jets home opener and they won't do a real Green Day performance

I get what you're saying but Green Day was very much involved in the making of the show. It's been said MANY times. Billie Joe didn't just throw the songs to Michael Mayer and said, "Here you go. Don't fuck it up." No, he was involved. It may not be Green Day performing, but it is Green Day music. I doubt they're even going to televise it so unless you're at the game, I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to go see Green Day, go buy a lawn ticket to one of their shows.

I guess it is their choice so I can't get angry, but I feel the same dude. Trying to watch Green Day on award shows and other TV is getting hard because of the damn cast. I mean, don't get me wrong, I saw the Broadway play and it was incredible. I loved it, but I can't take them ruining Green Day's performance.

They were involved but Green Day is Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre. Not Billie Joe, Mike, Tre, Michael fucking Mayer, and whatever other braodway people that put it together. You bring up another good point too. If Green Day was that involved, then we can blame 21CB's long belated release on the AI musical. Instead of getting the record done they were butchering their career and performances with Michael Mayer.(really I am a nice guy and I like the musical and I respect Mr. Mayer and the cast I am just upset that the AI musical and cast is getting in the way of real Green Day(Billie Mike and Tre) music and their tv performances(which give them the best publicity they could get)

But if the band enjoys performing with the cast, why is it a bad thing? There have been recently and are a lot more opportunities to see them perform their live show all over the country if that's what you prefer. They are obviously proud of what they've accomplished with the musical, and this is what they have going on now, in addition to touring, promoting 21CB, etc. So for promotion, it makes sense that they play, for instance, LOTAG at the Jets opener, because they are promoting their new single as well as the musical.

I don't think they've 'butchered' their career in any sense, especially with the musical. If anything, the musical just brought it to another dimension.

i dont like it either, probably because the whole idea of green day having a broadway musical really irritates me.

i havent seen it, and im sure if i did i would like it...but...i dont know. like i said, i just dont like the idea of it. its so cheesy.

ouch....that got me right in the heart.

i love green day sincerely, but, yeah =/

i think when theyre presented with an idea they dont really know how to turn it down. like when they signed to warner in 1994. they didnt really know how to say no, so they just signed. same thing with the AI play. i do applaud them for all the hard work they have put into the play though, but having a play on broadway has lost them a lot of cred with their local bay area punk fans...=/

but its not like they really care what anyone thinks of them anyway. if they want to put a play on broadway, who is anyone to say they cant?

Yes! I agree with you. I'm tired of that. It was cool when at the beginning, but then it got old... Like, I don't have anything against the cast, but I really don't care about it. They get so much attention.

It killed me to write that but I feel like someone had to be honest and say that. I love them and always will but I'm not so sure I respect them like I used to. I don't know I'm just pissed off they are doing this to us. However all they have to do is release are kick-ass, hard rockin, in your face record to make it up which is what they shouldve done right after American Idiot. I really liked 21CB but I wanted something that wasn't as polished or smooth around the edges. I wanted a fun, fast, hard pop/punk record.

Oh, I have to disagree with you here. I don't think they would have a problem saying no. I think when they are presented with an idea of something that interests them, or will expand their ideas/music, they go for it. But I don't think they do it because they don't know how to say no...
