djrossstar Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I have been wondering this for years (since it's not in the lyrics book or posted online), but always felt too embarrassed to ask Billie Joe whenever I run into him. During 'Why Do You Want Him?', before the solo, what is Billie Joe saying? After listening to this song for over 15 years, I have only come to this conclusion: 'I was fine on my own Don't throw it all away Resistant bound Got something to say' What do YOU hear? DJ Rossstar
Ellenkc Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I always thought it was You find a way out To throw it all the way But you can bet You got something to say Not entirely sure that makes sense do
Tragically Green Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 No idea what it is for real, but i hear: find a way out dont throw it all away dont sit there and pout you got something to say
Whatsername_21 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 You find a way out To throw it all the way But you can bet You got someting to say
Coffee409 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I always thought it was You find a way out To throw it all the way But you can bet You got something to say Not entirely sure that makes sense do I'm *pretty sure* it's: You find a way out, To throw it all away. Don't sit there and pout, You've got something to say.
St. Jimmy 7234 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 You find a way out To throw it all the way But you can bet You got someting to say Agree. That's what I hear
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 My expert in mishearing lyrics ears hear You'll find a way out To throw it all away. Well, I hear "Don't throw it all away", but that would be the opposite of what the song is trying to say (I can't make anything that makes sense out of this... 'You're this damn bound' is what I hear, but that doesn't really make sense... well it does sort of make sense (or at least, in my mind that occasionally makes up English words and their meanings, it makes some sense) but I don't think it's the lyrics. You got something to say I underlined the actual lyrics since I can't simply put down what I hear
Coffee409 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 No idea what it is for real, but i hear: find a way out dont throw it all away dont sit there and pout you got something to say I think you're right.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I'm *pretty sure* it's: You find a way out, To throw it all away. Don't sit there and pout, You've got something to say. This sounds pretty likely... after reading everyone's options, this is what it sounds the most like, to me.
Coffee409 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I'm pretty sure that's it. I'm ALMOST sure the "don't sit there and pout" part is correct.
madddie Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Isn't it? You find a way out... To throw it all the way But you can bet... You got someting to say Thats what it says on lyric websites anyway?

The "but you can bet" part just sounds all wrong to me. I don't hear that at all, but it is what the lyric sites say. But those are often wrong. Funny thing about this song.... For the longest time I thought the chorus was "why do I hate him?" Not putting two and two together that the name of the song is "why do you want him" BJ has a way of making words sound odd......
Katarina. Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I'm *pretty sure* it's: You find a way out, To throw it all away. Don't sit there and pout, You've got something to say. After listening to that part again for a couple times, this is what I hear. I think it's right.
djrossstar Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 Lyrics websites make up their own lyrics. I wouldn't trust that. Your suggestions sounds like it, but so do mind. We can hear whatever we wanna believe! I asked Billie Joe once what he said at the end of Reject, which I thought was 'say it again boy', and he didn't know what song Reject was. Asked me to sing it for him. And then goes, 'I'm pretty sure I say nothing.' I just made it up.
Tragically Green Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 This thead reminds me of the pre-internet days, when if you wanted lyrics to a song you had to sit there and press play/pause and write it out by hand

st.idiot Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 i found a website that says the lyrics are you find a way out to throw it all the way but you can bet you got something to say

I hear "say it big boy" (Reject, not HaR) and yeah... I've seen just a little too much lyrics sites with wrong lyrics. Wouldn't trust those on details like that.

On the HaR one I never knew what it said, then I played it on rockband and was like "THAT'S what it says?????" Only now, I forgot what it was. Looks like I'm gonna have to play some rockband tonight!

I think you're right, the 'don't sit there and pout' line confuses me. Billie should do one of those spoken word concerts where he 'sings' every song they've released. Minds will be blown at lines nobody knew existed! I always thought the Reject and HaR noises were just...random noises I guess I never knew they were words

Or wait, now I'm not sure anymore... it was something with birthday boys, at least. and it really is that although I only hear it on the vocals only version, in the song it's still gibberish. but Platypus is also completely gibberish to me with the occasional word thrown in, apart from the I hate you's.
