Guest derekb Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 OK I've never heard about his before but apparently when Green Day were recordeing the new album they had a radio station were they played demos and all that. Is this how the 21st Century Breakdown demo got leaked? And does any one know the interview were he mentions about the radio station?
Just Kate Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 i think i heard something about radio once but i'm not sure by which album it was and... did they really play demos? never heard 21CB demo..

Mar Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Would it really be at as high of a frequency as 98.5? I don't know Bay Area radio, but I can't help but feel like a commercial station would be on a frequency that high. (But, as others states, yes, they did set up stations to play their work to each other.)

From what I heard it was 98.5 and you had to get close to the place to hear the songs and that it was kinda like a pirate radio they were doing. I'm not to sure.
Hermione Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 During recording they set up a pirate radio station that would've only broadcast within a few hundred feet of the studio. I think they said it would've only been people driving past on the highway who could've heard it. They played random demos and songs on it. As far as we know, no one heard it. Or at least, no one's reported hearing it. Some people probably randomly heard it having no idea what it was. The 21st CB demo wasn't from there, we don't know how that got leaked. Interesting fact: the weird radio/static sound at the beginning of Song Of The Century was taken from that radio broadcast. Which is pretty cool Apparantly they did the same thing while they were recording American Idiot too, they made a whole album's worth of dirty Christmas songs and played them on there. Wish someone had recorded THAT! Would it really be at as high of a frequency as 98.5? I think it was when they were recording in a different studio in southern California, can't remember what it was called though.

I think it was when they were recording in a different studio in southern California, can't remember what it was called though. Wasn't it in LA somewhere? Something like ... ugh, the name is on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember it Ocean Way? Or was that something else... I keep confusing everything. oh and that 98.5 thing, idk if you got it from there, but I posted something about that in the Questions and Answers thread... I don't know if it was actually 98.5, I was just guessing that since in one of the studio videos, it films a radio shortly and it's on 98.5. Here, 0:16 And I'd never heard about the dirty Chrismas songs before. Oh, if someone had recorded that...
Smoothed Out Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 woah if this is true, that would make sense why I managed to buy a patch that said Green Day Radio on it, Since 1989, California I thought it was just made up as a brand for them

There's an article that talks about it somewhere that would tell us everything, can't think what article it was. Oh my god I remember when we first saw that video and everyone was trying to solve the mystery of 98.5 . We thought it might be a radio frequency (especially because of what they did with American Idiot), and we were telling people who lived near there they should go down to their studio with a radio to try and find out And we were right! I don't know if it was ever confirmed officially, but that's gotta be what the 98.5 was, surely? I'm pretty much certain.
Kilgores Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 And do you know more about 21st demos? Where can I listen them?
