ihaveapenisbitch!
This song reminds me of the Wembley gig, "i started fucking running as soon as my feet touched the ramp, we're back in london but to you and me its wembley thats home." - We were singing that the two days we were at the stadium. I don't know theres just something about the people I was with, the whole atmopshere in the line that makes me feel as if its home. Its just the feeling of being with all my friends and my favourate band. Something about that gets me, mainly because no matter how sappy it sounds being with my best friends and shit really does feel like home.
DecanoLP
I was hoping for it <3 Well, Homecoming... What can I say about this song? Lyrics are perfect, Mike AND Tre sing and the ending is one of the most epic parts I've ever heard in any song. Absolutely brilliant. Favourite Green Day song ever! iloveyouisntenough
Deffinitely a good choice. I love the participation from each band member in the song. Plus it is a great song in general.
Kayfabe
OMFG OMG OMG OMG OMG. This is my favourite Green Day song about 90% of the time I remember crying the first time I heard 'Jimmy died today'. Favourite words hmm, no particular order: Nobody ever said that life was fair now. < < I always sing this when I'm feeling mopey. The world is spinning round, and round out of control again. I said this before once that the turning of the world is always seen as something so controlled and constant, and so this phrase is great because it turns that on its head, and also to an extent resembles the cumulation chaos of the 'Modern World' (21CB references already, oo-ah) Oh, yeah. This song > > > JOS. Sorry JOS you're great an everything buut
Clayish
I remember when Rolling Stone called this song like "an huge, awful track" I was so pissed. Homecoming is a classic, and the opening riff to part 5 is my freaking jam.
BigYellowTaxi
Homecoming! My favourite song on American Idiot! :) It's awesome version for the musical too! I love how all the members of Green Day wrote a part of it!

jello4president
Homecoming is such an amazing song. Every time I listen to it I seem to find another lyric in it that just stays with me, even though I probably listened to it a thousand times! 'This life like dream ain't for me' is probably about my favorite line at the moment... Though it changes often... When I first heard the song all I remember is falling in love with Rock'n'Roll girlfriend and writing it all over my school books!
Savior of Rebellion
There are so many great things I could say about Homecoming. When I first got into Green Day a friend of my mom's, who collects a lot of music, gave a copy of an American Idiot cd to my mom to give to me. Unfortunetly, somewhere along the line the disk got scratched ....I could only hear Homecoming up to the line " ...He says we're-" and it stops there. This drove me crazy for the longest time because I just HAD to know how the song ended. It was like not knowing how the story ended. When I finally listened to it...it didn't disappoint I guess you could say it sparked my obsession with such a great band!
EvanAsFuck
God what a great song... It's just so epic and i love how it's so theatrical! Also, we cover this song in my band, and it is by far the most fun song to do guitar/vocals for!!

heartscollide
I've always loved this song. And seeing it live was just amazing. I dearly love these lyrics: My heart is beating from me, I am standing all alone, Please call me only if you are coming home, Waste another year flies by, Waste a night or two, You taught me how to live. I loved it when Billie let us sing 'you taught me how to live' then he sang it back to us.
Anja
the lyrics "Jimmy died today, he blew his brains out into the bay. In the state of mind, its my own private suicide" are some of the strongest on the album and get me everytime.. Absolutely fantastic song! Couldn't agree more! I love this song with all my heart. The lyrics are some of the best and strongest. I love how the part before Tré's is like really deep and emotional and then all of a sudden when Tré starts, it's just pure fun and rock'n'roll. And hearing it live last year was just awesome The line "You taught me how to live" gets me everytime! It pretty much describes my love to this band One of the best lines Billie has ever written imo. Punk-tastic32
This is probably my favorite off of AI. It's so grand, and theatrical, and just plain epic. A very underrated song that I would love to see a music video to. No matter how I feel, I can almost always relate to this song.

Maura99
I remember when Rolling Stone called this song like "an huge, awful track" I was so pissed. Homecoming is a classic, and the opening riff to part 5 is my freaking jam. Rolling Stone said that? Well, they're wrong. Dead wrong. And that riff blows my mind too. With that 'hey' in the middle; I love it.
Black Wolf
Really a greatgreat song When I first listened AI, didn't like Homecoming that much, but it sounds better and better everytime I listen it now Especially I like the first part, the Death of St. Jimmy What the hell's your name? What's your pleasure and what is your pain? Do you dream too much? Do you think what you need is a crutch
sampy
Oh my god, this is really one of my favorite songs of all time! The song is so freaking epic, 9 minutes long, all three members have their own vocal parts. It's like musical orgasm from the start till the end, for real. My favorite part of the song is absolutely "The Death of St. Jimmy", it's just so.. I don't even know how to describe it, but I think it's one of the most epic moments of the whole album. I would do a bunch of crazy stuff for hearing this live at the Green Day concert, really. I also love "Rock 'n Roll Girlfriend" really much! I love to watch live performances of this song from YouTube, hopefully we got new version again on their current NA-tour, I'd love to see that. Great choice for the Song of The Week, cheers! Just beautiful, epic, great, huge song, love it with all my heart. My favorite part of the song: "Jimmy died today He blew his brains out into the bay In the states of mind is my own private suicide"

*withoutadoubt*
I love all the changes of tone that give different shades of the story - I love the rhyme-scheme of 'We're Coming Home', where 'heat' looks back over its shoulder to 'heartbeat', 'street', 'feet'. I love how it plays around with the difference between coming home and going home, and what home is. In the first few poignant lines, JOS is waiting, hoping against hope that Whatsername will call to say she's coming home - to him. 'You taught me how to live' - there it is, that's home, and it's not a physical place, it's their togetherness. For me, that line is the climax of the song - maybe even the climax of the whole album. Everything that follows is the collapse of a dream - and nothing else to do, seemingly, but go home, and big it up like it's a homecoming. This song is cinematic, passionate, heartrending, beautiful - it leaves you emotionally punchdrunk, and there's still 'Whatsername' to come - unforgettable Whatsername. I love this whole post. But the words I bolded are just so perfectly said. I love that line, too, and I agree - it's like the climax of the whole thing. I love this song, and I love that line - they're probably my favorite lyrics of the whole album. It says so much for me, and I love the way you've put into words exactly how it feels to me. You still seem to always do that! I love the fact that this song is a collaboration of all three members of GD, and that it also was the beginning of something so epic as American Idiot.
