AilzMacD Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 hey, So what does your friends and family think of you being obsessed with Green Day? My friends will always make fun of me for liking GD, they say that there music is rubbish and i should listen to people like Justin Beiber, Lady GaGa and Girls Aloud But the most annoying thing about it is, they think Billie Joe is revolting and think im insane because i find him attractive. it upsets me knowing that someone could think that of him. My family think its a stupid phase im going through, but i have had phases before and i know this is not a one, i have liked them sins i was 9 so if it was a phase i would be out of it by now. my mum does like holiday, Boulevard of broken dreams and american idiot though, i caught her singing along ones, it was hilarious.
Leisha-LUNA Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Not including my GD friends. My friends all hate them. I get teased every day for listening to them. All my uni friends are constantly making jokes about it. But at the end of the day I think they are happy for me that I've found a band that means so much to me; they still read my tour blog and thought it was cool that I followed a band around the world. My Mum loves Green Day. But still looks at me weirdly when I cry during Green Day documentaries...I don't know why she thinks thats strange...
Isabel Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 pretty sure there's an existing thread about this somewhere. Oh well. None of my friends like Green Day, they literally think I'm insane for going to a few shows in Europe. "but it's the same show!" is often argued
Eighty. Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Actually my friends like some Green day songs, and they told me they'd like to go all together to any Green Day show, and I am glad to hear this. My family.. don't care about Green Day
iLozza! Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My mum and dad LOVE them. I mean, they love them almost as much as I do. My mum's more of a fangirl than someone who appreciates their music, but she likes them and that's what counts haha. My friends think they're gay emo twats, so I never bring GD into a music related conversation. But I can deal with that. I met some of the awesomest people I know through Green Day.
Leisha-LUNA Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 pretty sure there's an existing thread about this somewhere. Oh well. None of my friends like Green Day, they literally think I'm insane for going to a few shows in Europe. "but it's the same show!" is often argued "Don't you get bored of seeing the same thing every night? Do they play the same songs?" So sick of hearing that.
Holly Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 The majority of my friends despise Green Day, they say I'm some stupid fangirl who hasn't grown out of a twelve year old's obsession. One of them called Green Day a 'malignant tumour on the face of music'. I have one friend who loves Green Day, he came to Birmingham last year with me and Wembley this year. I have another friend who does like them but she probably couldn't tell you anything other than they have two albums called American Idiot and 'that new one'. Thanks to me my family have been submerged in Green Day for the past five years. My brother and sister love them (and my sister is only nine ) My Mum, Dad and brother all came to Manchester with me this year, my brother before didn't understand why I wanted to see them more than once but now he would do anything to see them again and my parents even admit that they are freaking amazing live
Isabel Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 "Don't you get bored of seeing the same thing every night? Do they play the same songs?" So sick of hearing that. I know, it drives me mad! My manager said it to me the other week and I was like "Well yeah, obviously there are the fundamental songs that they will play at every show, but that doesn't bother me at all because they're the best live band I have ever seen and they make it so amazing every single night!" She just started at me blankly so I said "Is there no band you love more than anything??" and she was like "....Well, I do like bands; but not that much." Baaah. hopeless case!
Opezi Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 i feel sorry for my family cause i know how they feel. they dont like it. my friends all hate it. "Don't you get bored of seeing the same thing every night? Do they play the same songs?" So sick of hearing that. yeah. i asked to go to another concert and my dad asks "havent you seen them once already? why would you see them again"
Storer Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Green Day at LG Arena Birmingham. October 27th 2009 Me with my parents, they love Green Day
madddie Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 All my friends apart from a couple really hate Green Day, I get constant shit for liking them. Everyone thinks I waste too much of my life and my money on them. Nothing people say can affect how much I like them, so i'm not really too bothered. My parents got me into Green Day, but I think they are a bit sick of me going on and on about them now haha.
armatage Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Yeah I remember there was a thread about how parents feel about GD, but not how they feel about you liking them. And your friends. Anyways, some of my friends make fun of me or think I'm sick. I had one classmate that usually went around and sang two lines off of American Idiot he knew. That was quite amusing. Other few friends get sick of me talking about them from time to time. And I have only one friend who seriously likes them and I got her into many bands. I doubt my parents think it's a phase. Unless they think I'm in a phase since I got into music being 12 with LP and that continued with more and more bands and the phase is going to last till I live with them and probably the whole life.
in_your_face Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 most of my friends make fun of me of being a Green Day fan, and listening to their music! i'm sooo sick of hearing that! and.. my mom too, she hates green day like hell! she will regret about it sooner or later.
Ally Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My friends and family both love green day. My mum has just as much of a crush on billie as i do, my dad love their music, my auntie said "she wouldn't chuck him out of bed" about billie. My friends...one liked them before me, but only really started to like them when i played them in the car all the time, one of my mates gone of them but was obsessed when dookie came out, and this other guy has recently got into the thanks to me
cherrybomb! Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My freinds and family love green day which is great but they still find my obsession annoying sometimes, especialy seen as i've listened to them probably at least everyday scince i was about 13, and my bf doesn't really like how much i'm "into" Billie Joe.
Supermeng Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Most of my friends don't care for Green Day much, although I have managed to convert a few of them into fans (some of that is thanks to me singing Green Day at karaoke). Once the buzz started about the Broadway show, my mom began to ask me about Green Day more (she'd known that I've been a huge fan since 1994). I introduced her to some of the music and she ended up loving them. For mother's day here in the US, I took her to see the show.
champagne mami Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My parents think it's a phase, they think I'll hate them in the next few years. Oh and they also think I only like Green Day because my other sister likes Green Day, and apparently, I want to be 'just like her'. They're wrong, obviously. Anddd my friends, excluding my Green Day friends, they find it quite annoying. I could care less what they think though tbh.
jenne! Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 What do people in my life think about my adoration of Green Day? I think that because i’ve been a fan since i was 23 years old that everyone sees it as a part of me. My parents and siblings all have gone to shows – my sibs and I have gone to at least 20 shows through the years together. When my brother passed away in 2007 my sisters and I sang one of their songs at his funeral service. I danced to their music on my wedding day like the nutball that I am. I started playing the drums because i fell in love with the instrument while listening and watching Tre. They have been a part of me for so long that everyone in my world seems to accept that about me. Recently my daughter became a fan – she is almost 5 years old and i was surprised that out of all the music she is introduced to, she picked up on Green Day most of all. (Funny story – when she was in uteri, she would kick the crap out of me every time i played American Idiot in the car.) well anyway – sorry to go on for so long – i’m new to the forum and have not been able to talk about this type of thing before. It’s awesome.
Mrs. Nobody Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 ^ that's so amazing =) My friends don't like them, but my parents love them more than I do
Tess_S Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Some of my friends think I'm like very very weird. But the others find this obsession cute. My parents just don't care of what kind of music I'm listening except my mom who sometimes wants to know more about me.
AnnA™ Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Most of my friends don't share my taste in music, but they'd never give me a hard time about it. I don't really mention Green Day in a group were I know people aren't interested. So it's never an issue for me as I don't feel the need to spread words about them everywhere. But at home my family can't avoid some of my Green Day talk and constantly listening to them. My dad says he wishes I'd have some more "variation" and thinks I'm too "obssessed" I guess. But at the same time I think he's glad I've found a band that I'm so passionate about. He has been convinced that it's just a "phase" I'm going through, but I hope he's starting to realize he's wrong. Besides, I'm sure that if he knew anything about the music most people in my age are into, he'd be really glad I'm listening to Green Day. Mum's also glad I love them. She likes Green Day too, kind of. The way a mum can be a bit curious even though it's not her type of music at all. And for some reason she's really fond of Billie Joe... Anyway, I didn't have to persuade her to come see them in Munich. Even if it didn't mean the world to her and she was pretty nervous about the big crowd, she seemed to enjoy it. My brothers all like Green Day. Thanks to me my two younger brothers both claim that Green Day is their favourite band.
Pedestrian9394 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I think they're pretty supportive. My parents get annoyed when I try to show them videos and such, but they also took me to New York City to see American Idiot on Broadway. So....yeah. Haha. Also, my best friend is flying me down to Georgia to see them in concert on the 9th for my early 16th birthday present. So all in all, people I know are either neutral about it or very supportive. =D
Juliette Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My friends all think I'm insane apart from 2 of them who like GD as much as I do. My mum loves them too, I got her into them a couple years ago and she's been to 2 concerts with me. The rest of my family thinks its weird
