Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 As I'm gearing up in anticipation for the Wembley (and SECC) gigs next week, I've started to play in my head all the songs that I really really want them to play that wouldn't be in their regular setlist, my favourite album tracks etc, but it dawned on me that I don't know a lot of the words to songs like Stuck With Me or Who Wrote Holden Caulfield for example, songs I love but only manage like the chorus and a couple of random lines throughout the song. I know it doesn't make you a "bigger fan" or anything but how well do you know the words that you'd be able to sing along at a gig? After going insane at Going To Pasalacqua being played at Glasgow last October I realised that I barely knew the words. Which of course I quickly put right, but up until last week I still thought he said "the television's an extortionist" in Letterbomb. I think it sounds better though. Apologies if this has been done, but doing a search for "lyrics" as you can imagine, conjures up hundreds of results.
Kayfabe Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I only learnt westbound sign when it became SOTW I actually haven't even learnt it, just parts. Strangeland is actually a great example. You know how much he mumbles in that song. I found out 'I'm feeling psyched, walking, wonder why?' in April. But songs like um, favorite son, you can just hear, which helps. The thing is I do listen to them, I just don't know the words a lot of the time
gdpony Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I know all of them I think ... there has been a few threads like this? or am I crazy?

Why didn't I say. (I mean I do know Stuck With Me and Holden Caulfield because those songs are too great, but that is beside the point) I think I'd be able to sing along to a song that they'd sing at a concert, but if they came out with 15/18 of the songs on 1039SOSH, I would be like So yea in old green day 99% of the songs are mumbles, but if you love the song enough you look it up.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 "the television's an extortionist" in Letterbomb. I heard that for the longest time (well...9-ish months or so. which is sorta long I guess?) until I looked up the lyrics Anyway, I think I know most of the lyrics. Only some songs like, well, Strangeland for example I don't know them to, or only a small bit. Both because I don't really like Strangeland (most songs I don't know the lyrics to are songs which aren't among my favourites. Or just 1039, bit of Kerplunk and Bab's Uvula Who for the reason I'm about to tell) and I just can't understand fuck of what he's saying sometimes. Billie's enunciation isn't always the best, to put it mildly.
Isabel Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I know everything except Shenanigans. Always forget them
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I know everything except Shenanigans. Always forget them Ah, yeah, Shenanigans That's also a bit of a hard one. Stupid thing doesn't have the lyrics in the sleeve so I never bothered to look the lyrics up. Which is why some of my own lyrics in some of the songs are a tad ridiculous (because of, again, the mumbling)
Isabel Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I just make them up. For Suffocate I always assumed he was saying "dizzy spells and spilling my guitar"
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I just make them up. For Suffocate I always assumed he was saying "dizzy spells and spilling my guitar" I don't come any further than "dizzy spells and hmmmmmumblingmmmm make it stop...." also, "don't break flies and empathize" (and while I now know the lyrics, I still hear 'don't break flies'). Shenanigans is definitely where I got the most creative
Hermione Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I know all of them to an obsessive extent. Well, apart from the ones we can't hear/don't know for sure. But I know all the possibilities of what they might be that we've come up with and have formulated plenty of theories about them myself too
Marlee Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I have to admit it. I know every word to every song.
in_your_face Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 well, i know the lyrics of most of their songs.
NickD Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 if im listening to them, i know every song's lyric including those not on cds. but if someone were to be like "whats the 3rd verse of _____??" i'd be completely blank
Rebel07 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I get confused on a couple songs sometimes but I know pretty much all of them.
FinkaliciousBillie(: Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I know most of the words to most of their songs, except for the first two albums. I can barley hear a bloody word hes singing! Its all mumblemumblemumble.
Mar Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 It's a fine line between just my faves and most of them. Because if most is like, 51%, I think I could say that. But if it's like, 80%, no
Erica. Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I know most of them, there's a few that I don't like where I just don't really care. However, I am determined to learn every single word by the time I see them in August.
Katarina. Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 All of them.. haha Although I sometimes forget certain words.
jenni Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Most of them. The exceptions are songs like Strangeland or Bab's Uvula Who?, where I'm just singing "bullshit" like "djqodjqsojdqdksfks" 'cause that's what I hear!
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 In Babs' Uvula Who? I'm pretty much stuck after "I got a knack for fucking everything up, my temper flies and I get myself all wound up" He always has a line a song where he kinda says it too fast that you can't figure out all the syllables he's saying, or he mumbles it. I think I know all of the last three albums, and about 75% of Dookie, Insomniac and Nimrod. As for the first two I know the songs that I listen to off them really.
petros Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I don't live in an English speaking country so I don't know all the songs... The first song I've learned was American Idiot.
Ally Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I don't claim to know every single word to every song, but i do know most of them. It more the songs off 1039 and kerplunk i usually forget the words too

I looked those up, still can't do it. I did okay on the verse, only made up one line, then the chorus was "evehafkajdbd and I'm all wound up... vadifhadef and I'm all wound up... aopdfjeen and I'm all would up. I lose control and I'm all wound upppSH!"
Waffles Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Most of them. I did confuse some words in the ones I didn't listened to very often. But I'm improving.
