captain peroxide Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 This thread is for discussion of 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, both the album as a whole and all the individual songs as well.
persons Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 my 2nd fav GD album, their stuff on Lookout! is the best IMO, my fav song on it is Rest, but all the songs are great.
LetItBeHappy Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 my 2nd fav GD album, their stuff on Lookout! is the best IMO, my fav song on it is Rest, but all the songs are great. I thought I was the only one that loved Rest! This record was my favorite for a long time. I so relatable
Dylan. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Actually, in my opinion, Rest is just about my least favorite Green Day song ever. The album is over all good, but it seems a bit forced. As if they were trying to write hits. Lyrically, it lacks the greatness and rawness that we see in Dookie and later albums, but of course since it is their debut I can't get on them too bad for it. Paper Lanterns is a personal favorite.
Mari91 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 ^^ Rest is honestly my least favorite Green Day song as well. Dont get me wrong lyrically its great, however it puts me to sleep
BIBARAGURORIA Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 *gives 1,039/SOSH luff* Not my favorite album, but I thought it needed that. "Only of You" never fails to make me go awww.
Eeefaa. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 yeah, i hear ya when you say it sounds forced. i dont blame them though, i dont know anyone who could write that kinda stuff at that age i do like listening to this album though... its one of the few i actually own on CD i only recently discovered the B sides Why Do You Want Him, Only Of You, Paper Lanterns and Disappearing Boy are my favourites

Paper Lanterns is a personal favorite. I think they were so desperate to make the album cheap and great, that they didn't make the best they could've done... but it's great anyways (have I ever told you that I love your ava? )
LetItBeHappy Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 At the Library! That's probably my favourite off this album. I love them all though. Why Do You Want Him makes me so sad I can't listen to it unless I'm in the right mood. i used to listen why do you want him a lot when my mom was with mr. dumbass and in the end... anyways....
Rebel07 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I'm currently addicted to this CD again. 16 and Road To Acceptance mean so much to me lyrically. Mostly 16, it's pretty much covering everything I'm going through right now.
Angela. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I love At The Library! I had the pleasure of hearing that one live... it was awesome. And I also love Rest. And Going To Pasalacqua is just plain amazing.
Bubbles. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I Was There, Road To Acceptance, Paper Lanterns, Dry Ice, 1,000 Hours, and Don't Leave Me are my favourites.
Elissa. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 At the Library, Going to Pasalacqua, 409 in Your Coffeemaker, Dry Ice, I Was There, and Paper Lanterns are some of my favorites. I love how they seem so young lyrically in this album.

Paper Lanterns is a personal favorite. Well, you're right. 10/39 SOSH was their first ever album so it lacked some of the thingies that he mentioned. but it's a good album and the my favorite is going to pasalacqua. i dunno why. well, the first song i heard was this one, and it made me jump!!!
Opezi Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 this is my most favorite album of theirs. and its my whole inspiration. it keeps me in a great mood. and just one of their best pure raw punk. love. and the blues solos are this is their start and it shows very well of what talent they have and the greatness that came from these 3 punks from the east bay <333 paper lanterns is the greatest song in my opinion. love it to pieces

Prisca Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Going to Pasalacqua, 409 in Your Coffeemaker, I Was There, and Paper Lanterns are my absolute favorite Green Day songs on this album. They're wonderful to listen to especially while in high school!
mandajane Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 green day is my all time fave green day song!! i love 16 as well. and how can you resist billies 18 year old voice
Christina. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 16, it's pretty much covering everything I'm going through right now. This. For me, I feel like this album is most relatable with what I'm going through and just my outlook on life right now. Billie was so young when he wrote these songs so I don't really think I can compare these songs to newer albums. But this album holds so much meaning and memories for me and I think that's why I love it so much.
mandajane Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 the song i want to be alone means a lot to me as well.
Dylan. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I think they were so desperate to make the album cheap and great, that they didn't make the best they could've done... but it's great anyways (have I ever told you that I love your ava? ) Lol, no you've never mentioned that to me. hahaha. I love the typo in it.
boosho Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I have to say it took me a really long time to warm up to this album and it still is my least fav album as an album however it does have 2 of my favourite song.. Paper Lanterns and Going to Pasalacqua. I also love Disappearing Boy, The Judge's Daughter and (even though its a cover) Knowledge.. Rest is my least fav song of Green Day's. But at least i dont skip it anymore so maybe the more i listen to it the more i will like it and the whole album.. But i think the main reason its probably not my fav is not because its a bad album but because all their other albums are actually much better.. If all they had was this I would have loved it..
Laura! Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I love every single song on this album. I can't choose a favorite.
~Ani~ Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I'm currently addicted to Going To Pasalacqua and Paper Lanterns
