Moxy Crimefighter Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 For my final year of highschool I have to produce two BIG pieces of work for my VCE. We create a folio for it and everything and it has to have a theme that ties the artworks and the folio all together. Mine is the Jesus of Suburbia/ Green day In short what I am doing is Building my interpretation of JOS Toilet Cubicle and a basin to fit the whole bathroom theme. My idea came from the line from JOS "I read the Graffiti in the bathroom stalls, the holy scriptures in the shopping malls" Why am I telling you this? Mainly because a friend of mine who doesn't listen to Green day and has no emotional tie to them whatsoever told me that she was seriously considering mailing Green Day what i was doing. Basically she told me to swallow my pride and tell them what i was doing. Normally I'd send a fan letter through warner, but due to the fact that I'm painfully cynical I doubt they'd ever get it. In short I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to how I could show them what I was doing?
The Breakdown Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Well the chance of Green Day getting your friend's mail instead of yours doesn't quite justify itself. Because you have like an equal chance of getting your mail read. I couldn't help but notice how many song references you had. Made me lol. Anyway, as for solutions, either try your luck direct messaging them on twitter or you could publicize your work in the faint chance that they see it. Then there is the creepy sort of get some sort of direct contact information and tell them personally.

There is a slight chance that the work may be put in a gallery twice, once for my schools annual art showing and a second time if it gets into Top Arts which is as well as you can d at a Highschool level.
The Breakdown Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Actually, it would probably be more Green Day inspired wouldn't it? And if said friend does get their attention, then you actually can see whether it was worth it or not. So long story short, do it.

I will, :*( I'm just terrified that I'll just get some generated repsonce like "dear sir/madam green day Love you, the end"

Liam Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 the only way they probably could would be if a mod has there email address and sent it for you but i doubt they would.
idiot4u Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 mebbe if you did a video of you and your project, with you narrating what the pieces mean to you and how they go together, you could submit it to the GDC and it might get the attention of someone--either one of them or someone close to them. i can't believe they don't have someone with their ear that monitors the sites about them. don't know how much attention they pay, but i bet they might notice something unique and interesting like your project. we know they are appreciators of art of all types--not just music.

Similar to this, but you could also somehow get it posted onto GDA. I don't think the band comes onto the forums but now we know that they visit GDA somewhat frequently.
Supermodel*Robot Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Getting it on GDA is definitely a good idea. I'm pretty sure they lurk around thurrr.
