J'net
This week's Song of the Week is Worry Rock. Please use this thread to discuss your thoughts and feelings about the song. Nimrod was released by Reprise on October 14, 1997. It reached a peak position of number 10 on the charts and has gone platinum twice. I really love the lyrics to Billie's love songs. They are, almost without exception, so true to real life. Instead of being all "hearts-and-flowers," he acknowledges the fact that being in love is hard work. He writes about "mascara tears … leaving traces of my mistakes." And he does it with a heart full of love and a determination to do better next time. Sorry I couldn't find a vid of Green Day performing this song live. If you have one, please share! Worry Rock Lyrics Another sentimental argument and bitter love. Fucked without a kiss again - dragged it through the mud. Yelling at brick walls and punching windows made of stone. The worry rock has turned to dust and fallen on our pride. A knocked down dragged out fight - Fat lips and open wounds. Another wasted night - No one will take the fall. Where do we go from here? And what did you do with the directions? Promise me no dead end streets, And I'll guarantee we'll have the road. A knocked down dragged out fight - Fat lips and open wounds. Another wasted night - No one will take the fall. Another sentimental argument and bitter love. Fucked without a kiss again - dragged it through the mud. Where do we go from here? And what did you do with the directions? Promise me no dead end streets, And I'll guarantee we'll have the road. And I'll guarantee we'll have the road. And I'll guarantee we'll have the road. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can nominate songs for discussion as Song of the Week in the Song Discussions thread, which contains links to each previous Song of the Week from 9/14/2009 forward in its original post. Supermodel*Robot
I've woken up to this song every morning for the past two months. I like that idea it portrays, that you can carry on living your life with someone and doing all the things that used to prove how much you cared for each other, but now it's just routine. You can hate each other for the day & you still stick to that routine because it's what you know and what you're stuck with. There's a redundancy to it and a feeling that relationships lose their spark sometimes. I see it as the bitter version of Redundant.

deadair
I absolutely love this song! Another band I really like Weezer did an interesting cover of this song too. As far as I know the only time this song was performed live was at the small DNA Lounge show last year. I SO wish there was a recording of that show, it had an awesome setlist. Too bad I live in Wisconsin.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
Most of the time I don't really like the sound of this song, it's a bit whiny, but sometimes, when I'm in the mood, I really enjoy listening it. I really like the lyrics. Because I don't listen it often, I never really paid attention to the lyrics (I only know about half of them), but I just read them (and as usual, that opened a door). I really like them, they're very, I think 'heartfelt' is the word? They're negative (and a few more adjectives, but I'm not very strong on those), but there's a stray of hope in there, I really like that.

Smoothed Out
"Punching windows made of stone" I love this line even though it never really made much sense to me, I suppose that's why I love it so much
J'net
"Punching windows made of stone" I love this line even though it never really made much sense to me, I suppose that's why I love it so much I think of it as being frustrated and feeling you can't get anywhere. So, physically speaking, the feeling of punching something but it won't break, so you don't get the release/satisfaction of destroying something with your intense anger. justcause
I love so many things about this song. The lyrics are bruisey and brutal, so vivid that the emotional violence they come from feels like it's still hanging in the air, reverberating, the way the aftershocks of an all-out, dirty fight keep on coming. Both sides inflicted the maximum damage and neither came out covered in glory - naw, this has the forlorn feeling of 'what have we done to each other, just to score a point?'. It ends up still not backing down, doing some negotiation, like Church On Sunday - but this song is drenched in love, and belief in that love. It has a Beatles sound to it - I hear 'P.S. I Love You', and 'Nowhere Man', especially in the triple of the last line. I love where Billie Joe drops down to accapella, bringing focus to that killer opening line again and pointing up the sweetness of the melody - it's one of those simple, dramatic pieces of timing that he's so good at.
