simone18 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I just found a blog online where a guy explains the album. what do you think about it? http://www.absolutepunk.net/journal.php?do=showentry&e=182342
Marlon_GD Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Pretty interesting read. I don't know if it has already been posted, but I'm curious about the explanation for Act II. He uses some very special theories, but as of now it seems interpretable.

boosho Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 WOW interesting... I kinda like it.. but i said kinda.. I think this guy has obviously spent a great deal of time analysing the album, but i think he is probably reading too much into it.... I dont think the album really intended this detailed storyline if any storyline at all.. It is a different prespective and like i said its interesting..
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 That was very interesting. It definitely opened some doors to me in how the album can be interpreted. I think this guy goes too deep in the story thing, though. He might be reading too much into things, but it's definitely interesting. I never really thought of the possibility of Gloria dying. I also wonder how he's gonna put that into the other acts. Thanks for posting this.
_cigarettes&valentines Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Hmmm. It's interesting but I think he's ready way too far into it tbh.
Opezi Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 can someone explain to me each song in one sentence. i really dont wanna read all that
Jacob. Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 This is the story of 21st Centiry Breakdown: So we start out in the 21st Century and everything's great, then bam everybody gets herpes and forgets their enemies. Next thing you know some emo chick named Gloria is running around cutting herself because she hates the seasons, then a guy gets a lobotomy. Then Christian is filled with seething rage so he writes a heartfelt love song, then Jesus makes him angrier. Then he goes out and buys a Pacemaker, but mistakenly reads the label. All of the sudden all of the chicks in America die except one so she is forced to breed endlessly in the Murder City, this causes Christian to run around screaming Gloria? Then Obama tries to change health-care, and everyone is forced to eat prescription drugs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Next the couple plays a friendly game of Horseshoes and Hangrenades because they can't see a thing in the Static Age. Then the cops shoot twenty-one guns at everyone so they sing the American Eulogy, then the sun blows up and their is a big light.

Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 thanks you very much just fyi, that's not what the blog says, he just made that up himself. not sure if you got that. (sorry to spoil the joke, but I know how annoying it it when people pull stuff like that on you)
Met Fan Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Interesting take, I've been lately confused by the linking of stories between 21stCB and AI through the AI Musical and the expert from Letterbomb at the end of the new version of 21 Guns, this is either very well played by Billie Joe or completely random, I'm starting to lean towards the second one, at least none of this was intended during the writing process of AI prior to it's release.
greendaygal89 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 an intresting read but like a few of you have said already i think he has gone way too deep!
Spastic Socialite Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 i really liked this wether or not it is all true to what the guys wanted to be interpreted from the songs, its still an interesting take on things. I love how songs can be read into as deeply as this
XxRedundantCastaway86xX Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 He says - "This is my own personal interpretation of the story Green Day presents on 21st Century Breakdown. It's quite long, but I think I have it pretty figured out, so before I run through each song, let's go over a few key elements to understanding this tale" This isn't really the story of 21st Century Breakdown, it's just someones interpretation. I think everyone should try to interpret the story in their own way because it makes the album more personal for the listener. But it's still nice for this guy to write out his entire interpretation so others can read some things if they get confused.

simone18 Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 i just posted it cause i´m still confused about the whole story.
Nzap Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Anyone knows if there is more than the first 7 as I can't find them. I'd guess I'm just blind and the link for it is the most understandable place but I can't find it. Or is there any?
Harinezumi Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I would never read anyone's interpretation of an album or a song before listening to the album myself, but since most of the songs already have a meaning to me, his explanation was kind of entertaining.
LetItBeHappy Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 interesting.... but I think the guy is thinking too much. I don't think Billie thought of all those religious meanings, I think he just wrote them and then (maybe) he realised what they're. And.. I don't know, I've thought like 3 different plots, each making perfectly sense, so this guy shouldn't be saying that he's explaing the plot.... (AND I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF GLORIA HAVING A LITERAL LOBOTOMY OR DYING! D: Especially before the second act D: ) BTW, that first part was written on may 26th.. I think he kinda forgot it D:
Harinezumi Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 BTW, that first part was written on may 26th.. I think he kinda forgot it D: I think he ran out of ideas after he killed Gloria.
LetItBeHappy Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 ^ that makes sense xD if you have only 2 important characters, you don't kill one before getting to the third act, because now the second act is Christian being sad because he lost Gloria D: she should've died on ¿Viva la Gloria? (ironic, i know), so he would've been extremely sad in Restless Heart Syndrome. That song lasts for like lots of weeks, and then, in Horseshoes and handgrenades, he "wakes up". Then on the static age he's having problems with all that's technology, because it reminds him of Gloria, and on 21 guns he starts thinking about Gloria (who, I guess, died after a riot that included 21 people shooting each other). On american eulogy he starts to accept that she died and on See the light he's ready to be happy again. Now, if you kill Gloria in Before the lobotomy, what the hell is gonna Christian do during the second act?! This is the story of 21st Centiry Breakdown: So we start out in the 21st Century and everything's great, then bam everybody gets herpes and forgets their enemies. darenmay Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 oh, it's written by a writer. one who really writes. and he's great at it. but i'd rather agree on a fan's interpretation who could somehow express what's on billie armstrong's mind.
