Who are you? I want to know, what do you call yourselves? Are you punk Rockers? The repressed? The down and out? Posers? Realists? Optimists? Pessimists? The main stream? Nonconformists? Do you think labels are for soup-cans and that's that? The reason I am asking is because I am a college student who has chosen American Idiot as the subject for my final paper English paper ever. My question is What is American Idiot and who and how does it represent a group of Americans? All of your responses are extremely important to my research, but if you are 18+, American, and willing, I would like to ask you some further questions. Everyone please, help me out here. I am a big Green Day fan myself, but I can not only draw from my own perspective. Who are you?

Everyone judges you from the way you appear, but tbh I really don't care, I keep dressing the way I like the most, though my parents don't approve. And yes, I am terribly pessimist, I always see negative aspects in what I have to do and always think that the positive ones are impossible to reach. I hate this part of me, but I can't help it

'Course I do, it's not my favourite album but it was the album that drew me to the band. Does that album reflect some thoughts and opinions you have? Yeah I find it does, though I think people are generally drawn to music that reflects their thoughts, beliefs, values, et cetera. Who are you? I want to know, what do you call yourselves? Like you said, labels are for soup cans, people don't fit into one 'category'. I like to think I am 'myself' and that's it. You don't have to be a punk to be a Green Day fan or a poser, a non-conformist...whatever. Anybody can be a Green Day fan and Green Day fans can't all be labeled as one thing as every Green Day fan is different. We're connected only by our love of Green Day. I'm 19 but not American... I'd be willing to be asked a few more questions though.

Its definitely in my top five records. Does that album reflect some thoughts and opinions you have? Oh, definitely. I've always related to being stuck in a dead end town that has no place for you. To hear some one else talking about it was like an awakening. The album definitely taught me a lot about sticking to my guns in the face of all the bullshit. I was only 15 when I first heard it so, in a way it shaped my thoughts and opinions. Who are you? I want to know, what do you call yourselves? Are you punk Rockers? The repressed? The down and out? A label isn't all that I am, but punk is definitely a word that carries a lot of weight to it in my life. It represents freedom to me, so its something I'm proud to be a part of and labeled as. I'm a realists, but I always hope for the best. I don't care about the mainstream/underground crap; if I like it, I like it. Radioactive1 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 1. I adore Green Day 2. Yeah, it's such a powerful and inspirational album. It's helped me through a lot of times. 3. It does in a lot of aspects. Obviously I'm not American so maybe not the political side of it, but a lot of the other songs such as JOS and BOBD do, especially when I started living away from home. 4. Hmm people think I'm so weird. Like one day I'll be wearing my hoodies and skater jeans and the next day I'll be putting my fake tan on, getting a manicure and dressing like a real girly girl. I love it how people don't understand how I can be so girly yet so into Green Day at the same time, so I don't fit into a label. I definetly don't fit into this emo/punk label that comes with Green Day at all.

Sadly with the kind of world we live in today its pretty hard to try and be yourself without people attacking you with labels left right and centre. I just try to be myself i guess. If that means some people label me by all means go ahead but at the end of the day, i don't label myself and i don't see why labels should mean so much to people . MY FAV ALBUM SO FAR 3rd well im not american so its always hard to say, but i can really identify with a few songs like jesus of suburbia...but i also think its important what they said about america at that point and all the problems and stuff andi really think its true and an amazing record to represent that point of view.... 4th well im a 16 year old girl from germany and i would not certainly call myself "punk" but i do have kinda of a punk-ish attitude.....and i love green day for what they are and stuff and i wish i'd been born earlier so that i actually could have been in the whole punk scene at its beginning....but now im just a huuuuuuge green day fans who's in his mind a deeppunk attituded rebel ^^

In fact, I hate it. But for some reason, it helps people understand what I like.. though sometimes it just make things worse. I'm a mix of a lot of things. But mainly I'm a mix of a punk rocker, emo, goth, nonconformist, scene, pissy, loudmouther, nonstop curser, and all around asshole. I am what I am. That's what I'll always be.
