jtdscape Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 I just got this e-mail from someone who wroks for Billboard.com Each week, our Mashup Mondays series gives some of music’s biggest acts a chance to cross genres by performing a stripped down cover of a famous tune totally beyond their usual sound. This week, rapper Iyaz shows his love for Green Day by covering (and sweetening) the punk trio’s 2009 hit “21 Guns” Since I am in school I can't listen the song or get onto the Billboard website to see how it sounds, but I am sure it is great. http://www.billboard.com/column/mashupmondays/iyaz-sweetens-up-green-day-1004077286.story

It didn't impressive me, he's not a real good singer but he seems to be a Green Day fan so it wasn't that bad. Just a stupid question ... am I supposed to know who this rapper is? I never heard of him either...so we're in the same boat. hes in the UK charts at the moment for the song 'replay' im sure u can google it.. ur doin it wrong hahaha that made me laugh, ok well i think he sucks arse, im glad he didnt totally wreck it by rapping but when he hits the high bit in '21 guns' i winced..

I always like hearing about artists who make such completely different music liking Green Day. So I'll give him that. He didn't seem to have the power behind his cover that Billie puts behind it, though. But what can you expect? He isn't Billie. Most people who cover Green Day songs can never get the emotion and power behind their voice like Billie can.
