Smoothed Out Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I don't know how long this thread will stay open, so I'll get my answer in quick because I like helping people Ok, First Name-OliviaLocation-UK (Manchester if you need that as well)What I think of 21stCB-I think it was very adventurous for Green Day to try and follow up such an amazing album like American Idiot and many people thought it wouldn't work in theory. But I loved it and it fitted together so perfectly with how the world is percieved in 2009 compared to 2004. There was alot of hope shown in it (See the Light) as America elected a new president who could bring them away from the mess his predecesor left behind. It also allowed the band to release some of their own emotions and thoughts into the music, percieved through characters just like American Idiot. It entertained and also left me thinking about how much everything has changed since the American Idiot era.Fav song-East Jesus NowhereYou can edit some of that if you want, and I'd be happy to help with anything else to do with it (if it gets closed beforehand, you can pm me)
Nikki_Nimrod Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: NikkiLocation: FloridaWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I absolutely love it! It's so different from anything they've previously released, and it has so many extremes- from the sweet, beautiful lyrics to Last Night On Earth, to the pure rage in Christian's Inferno or Horseshoes & Handgrenades. There's also so much variation in the music itself, with Green Day using piano to the gypsy-like feel of Peacemaker. Lyric wise, it's very ambitious, and although it's very dark, it still leaves you with a sense of hope, and I love the fact it's another rock opera.Your favourite song off the record: iViva La Gloria!
HoneyDo666 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: GlynnisLocation: Williamsburg, VAWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: Green Day have raised the bar for music again with a brilliant rock opera! Better than American Idiot, the rich lyrics, stunning harmonies, and all-around kick ass songs have me thinking about social issues and pogo-ing off my walls at the same time! Viva La Green Day!Your favourite song off the record: Viva La Gloria (Little Girl)Love and ponies!
matteo263 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Name: MatteoLocation: Malta (EU)What i think: The album is just incredible. It takes more time to digest than American idiot. I think that 21st century Breakdown is the richest musically and lyrically from all GD albums but not as commercial as AI and Dookie, therefore not as succesfull. My favourite songs are 21 guns, static age, ejn, restless heart syndrome.fave song: 21 gunsI think this thread should stay open as a finall 'judgment' of 21cb from the fans. It is consice and listeners had enough time to digest the album.bdw post a scan of the spread here
Kaddi. Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: KaddiLocation: GermanyWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I think Green Day had a really difficult task by recording a follow-up to American Idiot, but they're Green Day, so of course, they did great. It is so full of different styles, but it still sounds like typical Green Day. Your favourite song off the record: Static Age
Angela. Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: AngelaLocation: Pittsburgh, PAWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I think that 21st Century Breakdown is a genius album, and a wonderful follow up to American Idiot. This is an album that can hit home for a lo of people. We're in a time where things aren't so great at the moment. People are unemployed and struggling to pay the bills, and families are finding themselves living paycheck to paycheck, on the verge of losing their homes. This album speaks out to those people, and people who want a change and a revolution for this society.Your favourite song off the record: East Jesus Nowhere
Valkin Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: ConnorLocation: EnglandWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I think it's a great album with a varied style of songs. I also think that it isn't a massive hit maker like American Idiot so you have to listen to it a few times to enjoy the songs Your favourite song off the record: See the light or Static Age
gabbag Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: GabrielleLocation: New JerseyWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I really love it and it may actually be one of my favorite Green Day albums. I love most of the songs and all the different styles on the record. The whole concept of the 3 acts is really cool and just the whole experience of the record is amazing.Your favourite song off the record: East Jesus Nowhere or Peacemaker probably
Malleus Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: MikeLocation: Atlantic CanadaWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: It is a great rock album, it has lyrics, sound, and soul. One of Green Day's finest. It's American Idiot and then some. Definitely their best album since Nimrod, but sadly needs more exposure to the public.Your favourite song off the record: 21st Century Breakdown
Clayish Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: ChrisLocation: Simsbury, CTWhat you think of 21CB: Its Green Day's most ambitious, diverse, and epic album. They chose all the right decisions, and it just turned out amazing(except for Know Your Enemy). The album is actually better than AI. Favorite song: Little Girl or 21CB
Eeefaa. Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: AoifeLocation: IrelandWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: INCREDIBLE!! it has everything that makes green day special about them on it- power anthems, stories, ballads... and kick ass lyrics but im going to be different here and say its not exactly my favourite album... it kind of lacks the humour of american idiot and nimrod. its not as good as i expected it would be after five years of nothing...Your favourite song off the record: American Eulogy
AnnA™ Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: AnnaLocation: SwedenWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I love it. It must've been hard for the guys to get back into the studio with all the pressure from the success of American Idiot. Therefore I'm really impressed with 21st Century Breakdown, even though it hasn't been doing just as great as American Idiot, from what I know. But it's an amazing record all the same. What I love about it is the combination of new and old styles that they really pull off. It's a bit hard to explain, but songs like 21st Century Breakdown, East Jesus Nowhere, ¿Viva la Gloria? (Little Girl), Horseshoes and Handgrenades feels so different to me, like new, fresh and cool. Then they are songs like Before the Lobotomy where the melody reminds me of old school Green Day (I can't really explain why that is though). It kind of feels like a whole mix of songs from all their different eras, and I love that. They've really worked hard and it shows.Your favourite song off the record: ¡Viva la Gloria! and Last of the American Girls.
ANJI Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: AnjaniLocation: London, UKWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I love this album! It's such an amazing follow up to American Idiot and a completely different style to what Green Day have previously done. The lyrics have deep meanings, emotion and conveys different messages. I think its a great rock album but it hasnt been as successful as I expected.Favourite song: East Jesus Nowhere
LetItBeHappy Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 oh, my good action of the day First Name: AmandaLocation: Concepción, Chile What you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I really love this album. You can see how the guys have grown up. The lyrics are more sofisticated and you can actually find layers and layers of instruments and voices I really believe that it's their best record, but I believe that the next one will be even better, like... I don't know, this one was like a test.Your favourite song off the record: BEFORE THE LOBOTOMY
Sanny Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: SaninaLocation: AustriaWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: It's the album that got me into Green Day and after listening to all of their stuff, I'm confident to say that this is pretty much their best work - lyrically AND musically. It's profound, it is written and sung with so much emotion and the songs were put together in such a clever way that I'm deeply fascinated. There's a lot that you can actually learn from that record! 21st Century Breakdown is probably not as 'punk' as many people would call it, but I think that it's definitely the best follow-up to American Idiot that could have been composed.Although I must admit that I do have some troubles following the story line, sometimes. And what really bugs me is that some songs feel like they've been written/put in there just to fill up some space (See The Light; The Static Age; Last Of The American Girls; Before The Lobotomy). They are great songs but I think that there could have been even greater songs. At some points I also think that he album leans too much on American Idiot (which is not necessarily a bad thing). Your favourite song off the record: PeacemakerGood luck creating that magazine PS: Sorry if I offended anybody with my 'ugly' thoughts on the record, it's just the way I see it, no insulting intended.
MusicLover101 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: VarshaLocation: ColoradoWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: It's a great album. I can only imagine how tough it must have been for the guys to follow up American Idiot, and they did an awesome job with this record. Billie Joe has really taken advantage of his voice in 21CB, it's incredible. Lyrically, it's just as good, or even better as their other albums. Musically, it's awesome to see them expanding and not just using power chords. The only thing I wish is that they used a little bit less piano in the album, but overall it sounded great and did work with the album.Your favorite song off the record: Horseshoes and Handgrenades, American Eulogy
DecanoLP Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: NicoLocation: Hamburg, GermanyWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I really like this album. Lyrically, it is just perfect and I love most of the songs on it. But I have to agree with Sanny. There are still songs I don't like as much as the others (Christians Inferno, Peacemaker, See The Light). So it isn't a perfect album (AI was because I fucking love every single song) but it's still really good.Your favourite song off the record: American Eulogy
Sanny Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 It's no Dookie. *rofl*You forget to mention your name+location lolBut I get what you're trying to say...By the way, I kinda have the feeling that the next album is going to be more like Nimrod or Dookie. Don't ask me why, it's just that weird feeling that I have had now for months. Is there anybody else thinking that way? Oh wait, wrong thread, sorry for spamming :whistling:
blitzkriegdeb Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: DebLocation: Billerica, MAWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: I like it as an album, although I skip over alot of the songs if it's on my iPod on shuffle. As a follow-up to American Idiot, I'd give the album a B+. However, it doesn't invoke the same spirit of American Idiot, and the storyline it a bit more confusing to follow. Overall, it's not a terrible album, but it's not a wicked good one either. I wouldn't recommend it to new Green Day fans.Your favourite song off the record: Peacemaker, 21st Century Breakdown, or The Static Age.

Kinda like mixing all their albums in one great record :B But the math says that the album will come out on 2015, so.. D:

Erica. Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 First Name: EricaLocation: Chicago, IllinoisWhat you think of 21st Century Breakdown: It's not my favorite Green Day album. I don't like the story because they already did that with American Idiot. However, if I look at the songs individually then I like it more. It's very mature sounding. But if I try to listen to it as a whole and think about the storyline in it, I like it a lot less.Your favourite song off the record: Restless Heart Syndrome
Rosie May Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Name: YvonneLocation: IrelandWhat do you think of 21cb: I think it's amazing. I think it's as good as American Idiot and lyrically, I think it's better. To me it just sums up what it was like to live in 2009 perfectly. It is all very topical from songs like EJN which question religion to Restless Heart Sydrome which is about persciprion drugs or the Static Age which is about technolgy and our dependancy on it. I like the addition of the characters Christian and Gloria, it makes it more interesting but I don't think it'd as conceptual as American Idiot was. All in all, I love the album and I think it's more effective to listen to it as a whole. The only song I don't like is Know Your Enemy beacuse it's extremely repetitive and I think it has the weakest lyrics on the album. Apart from that I love it.Favourite song: Restless Heart Syndrome.
