matteo263 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 9. Green Day -- 'American Idiot'Green DayYes, it's a great rock record of the decade, but its smash success (Grammys included) and the immediacy of the songs on this concept album also make it a universal pop smash too. No disc of the decade was more direct at speaking for a lost generation. From the thrilling title track to the nine-minute 'Jesus of Suburbia' suite to the radio-ready fury of 'Holiday' to the heart-shattering 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' make it an album that the punks could celebrate with their parents. And those are just the first four tracks we're mentioning. http://www.popeater.com/2009/12/01/top-albums-decade/

sampy Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I don't know why the Gorillaz and GD are on a pop chart but kewl well I understand Gorillaz on that list, but not Green Day. =D
LetItBeHappy Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 maybe it's a list of pop albums, but it's way better than the rolling stone list. I mean... BILLY JOE? ¬¬
AnaArmstrong Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I don't know why the Gorillaz and GD are on a pop chart but kewl mmmm just because everyone now knows American Idiot. The old albums were famous, but they were more famous among a sort of collateral culture (punk-rock? pop-punk? I think they're californian punk-rock but my opinion isn't so important). And it's also thanks to the message inside American Idiot that makes this album so popular, maybe if they hadn't blame Bush the whole opera would have been famous but not in #9 position! And even if critics call them "pop", they're still PUNK!
Guest Shangri-La Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 i geuss its pop because pop= short form for Popular but cool!pop doesn't mean 'popular' anymore. it's a genre.
Nikki_Nimrod Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 lol at AI being a "pop" album But good for them for making the list!
Angela. Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Pop? NO. But still, glad to see GD on the list.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Pop isn't really the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of American Idiot (or Green Day in general), but nice they made the list =D
Krusties Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 how is american idiot 'pop'?whatever, at least they're on the list.
bollard_11 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 they usually consider anything that sells well pop, alot of people just bought AI and listened to a couple of tracks then never bothered wit the rest of the album or any other GD songs/albums
BadgerLALA Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 At least they didn't call Green Day emo...
