Alan86 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I'm happy rolling stone has seen that 21st CB was overlooked but I think it should be a lot higher on that list. I don't understand how u2s album is at the top of the list. I think what they mean is that they can't believe u2 were overlooked rather than their album was overlooked. I am a u2 fan and I own and like no line on the horizon but it's not their best work and maybe not even Grammy worthy
sampy Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 In my opinion 21st Century Breakdown is in top 3 overlooked albums by Grammys, it's a great album and deserves the place in the album of the year category. But that's just my opinion.
newsflash777 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 This makes me so fucking happy, you don't even understand.Green Day lost their nomination to chicks that know how to rhyme "See" and "Me".
Boston Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 The Black Eyed Peas are up for Album of the Year? Their music is not creative, and the band members lack talent substantially. I agree that Lady Gaga deserves the nod, as does Beyonce because they are both talented and original to some degree. Taylor Swift has been massivly successful, and by Grammy standards, that means she should have the nod, but she is overall lackluster and doesn't deserve all of the attention she's been getting lately. I haven't heard much from DMB this year, and that's all I'm going to say about them deserving the nod. To have no real rock albums up for grabs is a problem. Rock is at the root of most popular music today in that it has influenced many artists. Also, rock albums tend to be more creative and musically expansive than pop albums. I too am irked that the list is so inclusive. In regards to 21CB, I knew they wouldn't be getting a nod for Album of the Year. The only reason they got one in 2004 was because American Idiot was pop culture phenomenon as well as a great album. 21CB is not nearly as popular, and in my opinon, not as good as American Idiot. I think that its saving grace in this year's Grammys is that the band behind it is Green Day.
HoneyDo666 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Thank you Rolling Stone!BEP and T Swifty are nowhere the artists that Billie, Mike, and Tre are!
poisonoak Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 a lot of musicians on the list r better than taylor sift oh god i just cant stand her!
Chelsea Hotel Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 It seems to me that Grammys are given to pop juggernauts rather than quality pieces of music. Screw that.
newsflash777 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 It seems to me that Grammys are given to pop juggernauts rather than quality pieces of music. Screw that.I know. It's bad enough when MTV is giving up on Green Day but the GRAMMY'S? That's when it's gone too far.
Nikki_Nimrod Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 It seems to me that Grammys are given to pop juggernauts rather than quality pieces of music. Screw that.This. It's quite sad, considering it's such a prestigious award...anyways, i'm glad RS realized how overlooked 21CB was, even though it deserves to be much higher on the list.
gabbag Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Yay! I am glad someone realizes that they should have been nominated!
Mar Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I'm happy rolling stone has seen that 21st CB was overlooked but I think it should be a lot higher on that list. I am a u2 fan and I own and like no line on the horizon but it's not their best work and maybe not even Grammy worthyYeah, this surprises me, because as far as I knew, U2's album wasn't as beloved as their last ones (I don't know, I'm not a fan).
Boston Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 So the Grammys are losing credability?losing? more like lost. many moons ago. That's only in the eyes of music critics and fans of quality music, though. The execs are still going to bet their money on TSwizzle over Wilco.
dolce Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I'm glad Rolling Stone has recognized what a crappy job the Grammys did of choosing Album of the Year nominees. I was SHOCKED that Green Day wasn't nominated in this category. Not just because I'm a fan but - Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga all got nominated. All young girls who will build experience as they move forward in their career. If you are giving them an "album of the year" nomination when they're so young (especially Swift), what the hell are they supposed to look forward to in the future? IMO, Album of the Year should not only recognize one piece of work, but the artist's work that lead up to their current album, as well as the content of the album. Whoever decided that Taylor Swift's album about having crushes on boys was better than Green Day's album, which discusses the political and social issues of our time - they must be smokin' something that REALLY screws you up.
Alan86 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Yeah, this surprises me, because as far as I knew, U2's album wasn't as beloved as their last ones (I don't know, I'm not a fan).It has sold a lot even more than 21st CB but that's more to do with u2's huge fan base of die hard fans that will buy anything the band puts out. As far as quality goes though you are right it's not there best. 21st CB is better in quality IMOlosing? more like lost. many moons ago. That's only in the eyes of music critics and fans of quality music, though. The execs are still going to bet their money on TSwizzle over Wilco.Well when people look back on great Grammy winners in the future I don't imagine people talking about Beyonce Black eyed peas or Taylor Swift. I think they will be quickley forgotten
Juan Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 It seems to me that Grammys are given to pop juggernauts rather than quality pieces of music. Screw that.Did The Mats or Husker ever won a grammy? The defense rests.
GDM Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 This list was voted on by readers of the magazine, FYI. It was a reader's poll.I gotta say, I don't understand about U2's album. I have it and I tried to listen to it, but I never found myself liking it.
saraHsunshine Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 This list was voted on by readers of the magazine, FYI. It was a reader's poll.I gotta say, I don't understand about U2's album. I have it and I tried to listen to it, but I never found myself liking it.The problem with U2 is they have successfully made the same album every few years for the last couple decades.
Rae'n'shine Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 The Grammy's get worse every year. They always overlook the best thing that's happened to music over the past year and concentrate only on what's popular, no matter how shitty that music is. The Black Eyed Peas got a nom of Album of the Year? Please. They're new song, whatever it's called, sucks to infinity. I was really pissed that they totally snubbed Bob Dylan, Phoenix and Green Day. I'm not sure if I'll even watch the whole ceremony next year.
GDM Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 The problem with U2 is they have successfully made the same album every few years for the last couple decades.Ha, yes, that is true!
Supermodel*Robot Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I'm not surprised that it isn't up, just considering it hasn't had a huge spot in the media at all. It's also not as ground-breaking as American Idiot. That being said, it trumps all the nominees.I also think The Killers deserve a nomination as well. Not just because I'm a fan, but because they constantly evolve as musicians and produces this great album that didn't follow mainstream influence, but rather became something amazingly different with a true core. Gah, that's not very eloquent, but I hope it made sense.
parinaz Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 thanks GOD we're not the only one who think 21cb was overlooked.but WTF No line on the horizon is the most overlooked album?

However, I can't think that artists like Black Eyed Peas received more prestigious nominations. When I saw that Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling were at the top of the charts all over the world, I decided to listen to them. What a shit! They're awful and you listen to the same boring riff for the whole song.
poisonoak Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 it seems true that the old guys from the committee favors rock music less
