Smoothed Out Posted November 30, 2009 Author Posted November 30, 2009 Yeah, I know. I'm always too nihilistic Ok, but I do see what you mean
.katie. Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I've only really got a few friends and family hooked on a song, not into an actual fan. But my mum is starting to really get into Green Day now, she wants me to make her a copy of my 21CB cd
minorityxdisturbed Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 My father when he went to a Green Day concert, he was like, wow fuck, they are fucking great, now I understand why you love them so muchAnd I have a friend called Erika who is now getting into them, I gave her first the song Like a rat does cheese, she loves it, then Jesus of Suburbia, Hitchin' a Ride and Wake me up when September ends, and she's liking them
rinu Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I never ever do that.I'm pretty sure if I do that I'll jealous of them if they like Green Day. They can find Green Day if they like that kind of music plus most of my friends doesn't like rock music.
Harinezumi Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Subtlety is the key to converting people to bands that they "don't like". I find it really annoying when people try to shove something down my throat so to speak. It's much better to play just a few GD songs at a party, and let people get used to them (=addicted to them). And then ask them if they'd like to borrow the cd or something. That's my tactic anyway.
Metanoia Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 my friend even put 21 guns on her ipod even though she actually.....really doesnt like green day
Bastard of 1967 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I got my wife hooked on 'em at the Washington DC show last July. She likes their Warning and 21CB-era work now (and just *dies* over Billie Joe's acoustic numbers) and was blown away by their stage presence and command of the crowd.Things can change for the better if you are honest but you also have to stick up for the things that mean so much to you in life, that you know without you would only be a shadow of yourself. That's what GD does for me, they allow me to be who I am and because of them I no longer make excuses for it. 'I don't feel any shame, I won't apologise'. I told my boyfriend that one night, now he gets it and loves it, maybe not as much as I do, but he knows that this band has opened up a whole new world to him, a world of amazing people scattered far and wide, but would be there for one another in a heart beat.(Going off-topic here but I just have to reply to your totally awesome and open post).....thank you for sharing! That's what it's all about, isn't it? Not having to make excuses or apologies for how you really feel, whether it's about a band, a group of friends you've made that enjoys being with each other and follows said band around, or something as serious as lifelong plans with your S.O. For me, I'm thrilled that my wife has found her own way to appreciate Green Day and now enjoys hearing about their travels, interviews, videos. She reluctantly came to the DC show with me just because it was something I wanted to do, not because she had any liking or appreciation of them at the time.....and she got wrapped up in Billie Joe's energy from the moment he screamed out "STAND THE FUCK UP!!!!" during 21CB -- and now she's almost as much of a fan as I am! Anyway, I'm really happy to hear that things have turned out so well for you and seemingly much better than you expected just a few months ago. Give him a hug for all of us and keep counting down the days til summertime!!
Juliette Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I converted my best friends, then they got sick of constant AI radio play and now hate them  My mum on the other hand loves them. She's even coming to a couple shows with me next year.
Moz Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I converted my best friend. she didn't like green day before, but i brought her along to a concert when i aquired a spare ticket, and now they're her favourite band and she's obsessed. I'm very glad, cos it means there's finally someone who wants to go to future concerts with me.
novacaine_kid Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Yep and I consider it to be one of my proudest moments. Back in 2005, my friend despised Green Day, she said they had sold out after American Idiot and that they had lost their credibility. I then had a spare ticket to the MK show, she came because I said she didn't have to pay for it, and ever since then she has been a fan. The experience of seeing them live was enough to make her forget her strong beliefs on how they had "gone downhill" after Insomniac and now she is just as much of a fan as anyone I know.
Library Girl Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I'm not sure if I converted them or brainwashed them! But I got a few people to like Green Day's music now!I got my two sisters into Green Day, my niece, my nephew, a friend of mine, a penpal, and my father almost (I'm working on that still! )
Miss Hedgie Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I tried to convert my friends but they werent having any of it. :/
Nikki_Nimrod Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Haha, I definitely turned my parents into fans. They had never really listened to Green Day, but after hearing me play them so much it really started to grow on them Same with my little sister. I have a quite a few friends too who now like them too
karma1215 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I have successfully made a co- worker of mine into a Green Day fan.... we're going for second rounds when they come back. Hopefully we both can stick it out in the pit Don't know but looking forward to it nonetheless
insomniaticnimrod Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 ive gotten my sister into them, she even thinks Billie is cute now, she used to say "oh hes so old how can u think hes cute"...then i took her to the gd concert i went to back in july and she now likes the music and thinks Billie is hot haha
the daughter of rage Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 i have converted SO MANY people, i swear, i lost count! starting from my whole family (grandparents included), my parents friends, my friends, my doctor, my teacher, ect., and that's to name a few. it's not like i force them to like it or anything, it's sorta like, "here, you wanna hear something really good, put these on" and there you go, then they like, " what CD do you recommend?" or people like my grandparents are like"cool, but are they still alive?!"
Savior of Rebellion Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Yes!, my best friend!! yeah I remember around the time we first met or so I was like 'Ever heard of Green day?' 'yeah, I guess I like them' 'Well there my favorite band' 'Oh that's cool' .......she looks up some of their stuff, I constantly talked about them, next thing you know she says 'Ashley, what have you done to me, now I'm as big a fan as you are!' but she meant it in a good way This goes out to you Bri (xLLLx)plus my parents, and few other people
incendiary girl Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 A few friends and my hubby. I don't really make a big effort though. I'm just happy I have people in my life who understand my love for the band and their music. Not everyone gets it.
bjrules Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I've got my mum into them just by having their CD's in the car all the time
Nimrod99 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I converted my best friend. She acutally used to like Green Day when Dookie came out, but after hearing about how they used to tease/taunt the audience during the shows "back in those days", she didn't care for them much (I didn't know her back then). I ended up taking her with me to a show during the Pop Distaster Tour, and she's been hooked ever since... and hooked on Mike too. haha.
The Muffin Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I was converted by my friend. I couldn't listen to rock at all about 6 years ago. I was all pop-ish. And my friend converted herself cause she liked a guy, and his favourite band was Green Day. He's a bastard though  And I converted one of my friends.
Robin105 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I've converted my best friend to greendayism. LMAO! Now she is just like me
poisonoak Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 im working on a friend now... she liked them during the dookie era but isnt in2 their new songs...
