GDM Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 AJ Ramirez from the cultural pop criticism journal Pop Matters started a 14-part series about Dookie a couple of days ago. He wrote about Burnout first and now he's moved on to Having a Blast. Not many people are commenting about the songs so far, so I thought you'd all like to know about it, maybe get some conversations rolling about the album. He also is posting old videos of the songs from Youtube, too. (I searched for this, sorry if it's a double post)Burnout: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/116443-green-day-burnout/Having a Blast: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/116517-g...having-a-blast/
Allie90 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 it seems to be a detailed and reasonable analysis of the songs! I'm glad someone has taken up Dookie to describe it like that. There are so many really good songs on the album that unfortunately were overshadowed by the major hits at the time. And now I hope all the songs will get sufficient coverage. Besides, this thing encouraged me to re-listen the whole Dookie once again.Hope, you'll keep posting the continuation of this
Rae'n'shine Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I think this is pretty cool, thanks for sharing! Hope he doesn't give up halfway through the album.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 That was really cool, I liked reading it. I like analyses (sp?) of songs. Eager to read his analyses from the rest of the album. Thanks for posting! and it really makes me regret still not knowing the lyrics to the songs because of Billie's mumbling xD
Nikki_Nimrod Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 That was a great read! I really enjoyed hearing such an in-depth analysis for both songs, and can't wait to read the others. Thanks for posting!
Supermodel*Robot Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 That was awesome! It's nice to see someone giving Dookie the credit it deserves without any backhanded comments. I'm excited for the rest of his analyses.
incendiary girl Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 You already know how I feel about this. So awesome! Thanks again for posting, Tanya!
alaniluau Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Thanks for posting! I really enjoy this guy's perspective. He's making me think about aspects of Dookie that have never entered my mind before.
Kryssi. Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Thanks for the links, Tanya! I'll have to give them a nosie.
GDM Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 You all are welcomed! And yes, it's so great to read about Dookie without the snark and piss. Very happy to hear this guy's take on it!
novacaine_kid Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 This is a really good read! Nice to see a detailed analysis of one of my all time favourite albums Now I'm going to wanna listen to the whole album again and why the hell not, its a masterpiece
gone2pasalacqua Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 "At its core, Dookie is an album about coming to terms with one’s self and one’s failings in a manner that is not often triumphant or celebratory, but is nonetheless reaffirming to the underachievers of the world. Dookie is an album that says “Yeah, I’m a fuck-up” in a way that millions of people wish they could express themselves in, and that’s why it’s so great."so. fucking. true.
**She** Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed reading it. I like the authors view on Green Day. Can't wait until he does Emenius Sleepus.
Metanoia Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 dookie is just ooo ofreaking amazing !!!!!!!! ♥
GDM Posted November 29, 2009 Author Posted November 29, 2009 All About Dookie - "Chump" http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/116576-green-day-chump/
Allie90 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hmmmm... strange that speaking about Chump, the author didn't explain why it was written. He didn't tell that story about Adrienne's ex-boyfriend that was bothering Billie. Otherwise from his review it seems that Chump is a song just about hating someone without a reason Although I love the videos they post in every article))

Leave him a comment and tell him! Comments are moderated. But he does make it seem that it's just about hating someone for no reason.
**She** Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I agree. The first and the second reviews were much better. Let's see how he continues.
GDM Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Longview: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/116819-g...ookie-longview/
Allie90 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I like his review of Longview, particularly how he explais the lyrics line by line. thanks for posting
Hermione Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I'm enjoying reading these so much. It's making me want to listen to Dookie every single day! It's put the album on my mind and it's making me go on journeys through the songs in my head all over again. I think it's going to be taking it's turn as my favourite album for a while.
**She** Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Thanks for posting the next review. I think it was as good as the first ones and much better that Chump, which wasn't that good in my opinion.I really enjoyed reading it. Very good thoughts, even though I had to look up several words that were used. I like how the author set Green Day in relation to several other really well-known and influential bands. And i like that he took a closer look not only at the lyrics but also at the instruments and the muisc video, like the whole package.
GDM Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 Welcome to Paradisehttp://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/116956-g...me-to-paradise/
Li Sa Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I enjoy reading those very much and he goes on ...=)
