watsername182 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 #60 - American Idiot American Idiots? Not a chance. Green Day are smarter than most of us thought or wanted them to beRead the original NME review from 2004:Though they’ve tried admirably to repeat themselves as little as possible down the years, Green Day are seemingly cursed by the army of mosh-monkeys who would like nothing better than a series of third-rate ‘Dookie’ clones. 2000’s ‘Warning’ album bombed with the fanbase mainly because there was nothing that sounded remotely like ‘Basket Case’ on it (the bloody cheek) and those flimsy attention spans are liely to be creaking loudly again thanks to the highly conceptual ‘American Idiot’. Now pay attention Good Charlotte fans at the back because both main tracks- ‘Jesus of Suburbia’ and ‘Homecoming’- are nine-minute prog-punk collages constructed from five songs thematically related by the sorry state of American life under George Dubya. Yeah, alright, but that ever-so-slightly irritating sense of righteousness is easily eclipsed by an onslaught of varied and marvellously good tunes presented in an unexpectedly inventive way.American Idiots? Greenday_Aussie Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Needs to be higher on list. Im interested to see what else made the list..
RobyRoom Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Not a surprise. NME has always been squeamish with Green Day  They like to promote boring album that no one's going to listen, I don't care what NME says about Green Day anymore.EDIT: and also NME justifications are always contradictory.
parinaz Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 end of the decade is getting near and we see lots of best of decades thing.
RobyRoom Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 end of the decade is getting near and we see lots of best of decades thing. This kind of classifications can be funny, but they will never be objective
1000SlappyHours Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 #60? WTF!Well IMO 60 on this list is better than #1 on tht pretty awful Kerrang one. Surprised not to see Animal Collective on there.
parinaz Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 well I guess GD has some contracts with kerrange. I mean they are friends. :whistling:
valentinesandcigs Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 there are many things wrong with this list:first of all the fucking strokes as number 1 wtf?second of all green day should at least be in the top 20and third of all In rainbows higher then Kid A? whoever made this list should be fired
The Disappearing Boy Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 it always annoyed me when it says 'warning bombed with the fans...'. no it didn't, it bombed with the critics.
Smoothed Out Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 This has just intensified my dislike of NME, never liked it, never will
Mari91 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 wow the list is pretty offi never liked NME now i hate it even more

Clayish Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 it always annoyed me when it says 'warning bombed with the fans...'. no it didn't, it bombed with the critics. No it didn't.It got some solid reviews, like a 4.5/5 from Allmusic, and a 4/5 from Rolling Stone. The basic Green Day fans, the ones who are stuck in the past, were disappointed.
Laura! Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I think it should have been higher up on the list. And where's Dookie?
RobyRoom Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I think it should have been higher up on the list. And where's Dookie?Dookie came out in the previous decade
Just Overjoyed Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 hahaha music critics. The fact that anyone can pretend to think there are 59 albums better than American Idiot released this decade amuses me.
Angela. Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 this is madness!"Madness? This... is... Sparta!" Sorry, that's the first thing I thought of when I read your post. Seriously though, 60?! American Idiot deserves a way higher ranking than 60.
Savior of Rebellion Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 well I guess it does kinda make sense that its #60, when it comes to certain contests and magazines the higher rankings are the artists who are around there...which means a lot of Radiohead, Muse, etc. etc.I still wish it could have gotten a higher number
Laura! Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Dookie came out in the previous decade Oh, wow. Okay. I feel stupid now.
valentinesandcigs Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 hahaha music critics. The fact that anyone can pretend to think there are 59 albums better than American Idiot released this decade amuses me.okay lets not get crazy now in my opinion 21st century breakdown should be on that list. its superior to american idiot IMO. and kid A should be number 1 one of the most influential records of our time and im not even a radiohead fan.
HoneyDo666 Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 it always annoyed me when it says 'warning bombed with the fans...'. no it didn't, it bombed with the critics. It was their lowest selling album. It brought in new fans but the Dookie fans didn't like it so much. Many critics actually liked the new direction.im looking at this list goingWTFunbelivable im dreading to see what the rolling stone list looks likeRS loves Green Day!
