Ok, so I sent an email a few weeks back to the gallery where the exhibition was to be held, asking about the posibility of getting into the privite view. They replied this tuesday saying i had a place if i wished to RSVP.. So of course as you can imagine I was over the moon about this, not because it was a green day event, but because it was my first privite viewing ( im quite arty farty, so you know :P )

We got to the gallery an hour late, had to give our names at the door etc. At this point I must say I was a little disappointed. The gallery itself isnt in the nicest of areas and it was quite hard to find ( but they were providing free drinks which was a plus). As for the artwork, I had been previoulsy sent a preview catalogue so knew kind of what to expect when viewing the art. I was wrong. I had forgotten what it is like seeing something in the flesh as opposed to a 2 dimensional version on a computer screen. I personally felt the work was very very strong. A few which stood out for me personally were the works depicting "Viva la gloria (little girl), Last of the American girls,Static age and East Jesus Nowhere ". They kind of i felt all had a raw edge to them, but done taking a fine art approact. "East Jesus Nowhere" I found to be particularly potent in the collection- The work itself was painted onto an old road sign, which was a nice touch.

It cost me £10 to get both the poster and exhibition guide ( I'll scan in both if people wish). After this, and we had seen the exhibition,me and my friend were about to leave when a big people carrier drove up with blacked out windows... Yes.. it was who you think it is!! Mike and his wife walked straight past me, they were in touching distance :P Mike had one these huuge red glasses and was hand in hand with his wife.. the two were very cute together constantly in eachothers arms and kissing. They were followed by Jason White and one other guy from the tour ( the one with black hair... i dont know his name!). I thought that would be it as no one followed them. But I was wrong. 15 Minutes later the other Jason ( the one that plays the saxophone) turned up with Tre Cool and his girlfriend!! I literally had a jaw dropping moment.

The only two downsides were this; I approached both Mike and Tre and didnt get an autograph from either. Mike said he was going to get a drink and would be back, which was fair enough. But Tre told me that " they wernt doing that tonight". This kind of surprised me a little as usually they are always very accomodating to their fans, but i guess mabye they wanted an evening off or they didnt want everyone asking for autographs... i dont know.

I didnt see Billie either; Im guessing he arrived shortly after Tre but unfortunatly I had to leave before the party closed. It would have been nice to have seen all three of them, but stil was the best fucking night of my life ( untill tomorrow when I go see them in corncert)

If anyone has any questions about the work shown or whatever im happy to answer them :)

Wow :o!, that's amazing!. I'm going to try my hardest to go and see this exhibition, seeing as I'm doing art at college. Oh, and the guy with black hair is Jeff.

haha, i shall remember his name for future reference ;)

yea to be honest im still a little shaken up by the whole thing, it only really sunk in when i got home that I had met them.

and and id definatly recommend it to go see, its really contempoary but not in a Mark Rothko painted squares that are different colours type thing. Theres really a sense of narrative behind the images

Wow, that's awesome! I would definitely love to view the exhibition, but that would be impossible for me. :/ I'm still happy for you, though. And the fact that you got to see/meet Mike, Tre', both Jasons, Jeff, and their wives/girlfriends is pretty cool, too!

Yeah, that sounds awesome! I would love to see the exhibition.

That's so rad! I wish i was able to see the exhibition.

But i'm really happy for you, that's so cool not only you got to go but that you got to see Mike, Tre & everyone as well! :D

That's a great recap thanks for sharing. You are one of the few people on this tour that has had a story about being up close and personal with the band (it has actually been a bit disappointing that so few people seem to have met them so far and not many pictures). I would have definately went to this if I was in London. Any pictures of the art or the band (the walking works of art) would be appreciated!

Just found a link to the gallery that may post pictures of the band attending, artwork etc.

Bahh I'm so jealous of this gallery. I'd so seeing this over the AI musical any day.. but then again you should expect that coming from a visual artist :P

Really? How hard is it to sign a fucking autograph, its just scribble.

I dislike off stage/off air Tre.

Thanks, that makes the experience all the more worthwile reading your comment :) I was kind of bummed afterwards cos of the whole Tre incident. All of the band that were there wern't really that co-operative. There was this girl who went upto mike and was talking to him about how they pulled her up on stage recently, and i dunno what hes like or anything, but he didnt seem very interested. When i went to go talk to him, he turned away and said he was going to get a drink and would be back in a moment. Which i felt to be a nicer way of putting things than Tre did. But hey, they're rockstars, so they are probably a bit fed up of their fans at the moment :P

I myself didnt take any photos cos i went straight from university so didnt have my camera. I do know however the gallery were taking loads of photos which should be put up soon. Ill photograph my poster and exhibition guide when i get back from their concert this evening and post it on here :)

I know right, i even had a pen ready and everything. I think mabye he was tired or something; they have been on the road alot recently. Either that or he didnt know i was a huge fan cos tbh i don't really look like Green Day is the kind of music id listen to if you get me.

Tre and Ruri are such an adorable couple.

True, but not as cute as mike and his wife; the pair were literally all over eachother. Thats newly weds for you :P

Oh.. what if they didn't expect fans to be there since it was meant to be sort of private, or they were just having a bad day? (maybe their girlfriends don't get along or something LOL. ) Could be anything. I'm sure they're not usually like that...at least not from what I've heard. :)

Anyway, it's awesome that you got to see the exhibition. I woulda loved to see it too, I love art.

Such a shame they didnt sign for you. It must have been such a disappointment after seeing them hug other fans and get their picture taken etc, and Billie not showing up at all. Maybe they are worried about catching swine flu by mingling with the public!

You should try to get in to the Macbeth shoe launch party tomorrow night you may get luckier! Keep me posted.....

Can you explain what happened when you approached Tre? I still don't really understand :P

Well, from my experience, usually when musicians say something like that, they just want the attention to be focused on somewhere else. Like, for instance, the art show itself. If they sign one autograph then they have to sign a bunch. It's just principle really. Always, it sounds like the whole band agreed to not do any signing. Just a bunch of equal people appreciating art. I'm sure they didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Tre's always really straightforward. I actually find it kinda refreshing.

Yeah, I'd say it's very difficult to know when the right time is to ask them for an autograph. I don't think I'd ever ask them if I saw them with family members. I was dying to get Billie Joe's autograph in Dublin when I saw him a few years go, but he was with Joey so I thought "No, I can't, it's not the right time."

Still, sorry you felt disappointed about it. I know I would, if I asked for an autograph from one of my heroes and they said no :/

I also reckon both Mike and Tre maybe felt they were taking attention away from the artists if they signed autographs for everyone. I dunno.

Sorry that was my pc that hiccupped!

I agree completely. I think its really cool that they did that actually. They wanted the attention to be on the art and not them and that's really an amazing thing to do.

That's pretty cool. I'd love to go to that exhibition as well.

By the way, does anyone have the link to that site that had all the artworks published on it? I have a link, but that's another site that doesn't show all the works in fairly big pictures, and don't say which work belongs to which song, and I'd like to see all the art again.
