I'll watch it a few more times over the course of the day and post something more intelligent (I hope) later....but after the first run-through all I can say is I was just staring wide-eyed at the monitor with my jaw on the floor. Fucking EPIC, man. I *love* the use of the stencil graphics, the embedded political messages, and the transition from the cartoon graphics into the cold, hard reality at "Oh, dream, America, dream..." Now I just wish we could all apologize to Marc Webb for the crap that got posted about his artistic vision after the band announced they were going to work with him again on this video. He kicked ASS with this one.

I don't know all the technical details behind it, but it lets you film someone against a neutral green or blue screen and you can superimpose them onto just about anything you want. The key is that your live talent can't be wearing anything that falls within a few hues of the key color, otherwise what you're superimposing him/her against shows through. TV weathercasters use this technique all the time when you see them pointing to stuff on the big maps that appear to be behind them.

It all makes so much sense now. Christian and Gloria were either a part of (or, I think more accurately) were abandoned by the Bastards of 1969, the original Woodstock-era generation that promised that they'd make everything all better by the turn of the 21st century, once they got into power.... and instead they made it worse. Now C&G have had a child of their own, who gets dumped out into a chaotic world that's fallen apart. The Bastards have missed their self-imposed "20th Century Deadline", and all they can say is "sorry kid, we fucked it all up, now it's your turn" -- they've "been to the edge and thrown the bouquet/of flowers left over the grave". The political system has fallen apart, and we're left to watch the hypocritical politicians slugfest it out when they're really in bed with each other...and all we can do is sit in "the waiting room wasting our time/waiting for Judgment Day."*SHIVER*
