LetItBeHappy Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I was at a friend's house. She told me that I had to listen to this song that was great and she loved. After a while, the song started on the Radio. It was Holiday O:
Angela. Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I was in 5th grade. My 5th grade teachers made a little PowerPoint presentation with some pictures of us (and some music) thrown in, and gave us all copies of it. (I still have that disk for some reason. ) Well, the first time we all watched it was in the cafeteria. And there was a part where some pictures taken from a class field trip came up on the screen. And Good Riddance was playing. I can't remember if I liked it or not when I heard it. All I know is that I didn't know that it was Green Day at the time.
kazoo Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 and before 21CB [i know, i know, im a noob to reality ]i never knew any of the stuff i now know i knew [say that 3 times fast?] was Green Day. but listening threw everything, i picked up on stuff like Good Riddance and Brain Stew and the whatnot of the 90's
Chelsea Hotel Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I heard American Idiot (the song) for the first time on Fuse--the video came on while I was doing homework. It blew me away.
Nikki_Nimrod Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I was at home watching TV. The Music Video for American Idiot came on, and i was instantly hooked I'm sure I heard Good Riddance at some point beforehand, many years ago, but at the time i didn't realize it was Green Day, or pay much attention to it.
TaylorKlinke Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I really cannot remember how I started listening to Green Day... but it was about the time American Idiot came out and I was in 9th grade...so my best guess would be it was some song off that album that was on the radio or something. But, I really can't remember...
JHyena86 Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Probably heard them before this, but the first memory I have was someone put Boulevard of Broken Dreams at school. We had a weekly news cast put out by students, and every week they did something for a different band and they did Green Day (I think this was in 04 right after AI came out). I didn't know anything about them, and never thought of them again until I was at a Hard Rock Cafe years later (2007) and WMUWSE came on and my sister told me I should borrow her copy of AI. I did. Rest is history.
Sarahnade. Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Well, I probably heard When I Come Around when I was a baby. My mom likes Green Day, and whenever they would come on the radio, she would let it play for me to hear. And I grew up with Good Riddance too.But the first time I really recall hearing Green Day was when I was moving from Virginia to Pennsylvania about 6 years ago. It was in September of 2004, so AI just came out. While driving up to PA, the song American Idiot played multiple times. I remember my mom asking, "Is he saying 'American Alien'?" And I was like, "I dunno." So, I liked them alright, but I wasn't crazy about them. It wasn't until I heard BOBD for the first time (In a car, on the radio again!) that I was completey blown away. I obsessed over that song forever, haha. And then for my 11th birthday in March 2005, I got American Idiot and..here I am. Still loving them, and my favorite song is still BOBD.
Velocity Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I was in 8th grade, and I heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams over the speakers of the radio on the schoolbus.I may have heard a Green Day song before that, but that was the first time as far as I know.
Welcome to Paradise Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I remember my sister played Welcome to Paradise to me at our house in 2002, thats the first time I heard Green Day and I've loved them since.
badwolf Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Home, and randomly Basket Case came on tv and I was like "Ooh, this band sounds nice. " And then my brother downloaded a few songs for me and thus, a Green Day fan was born. heh.
Sharmellow Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I think there's already a thread for this, but I'm too lazy to search. Anyway, to answer your question, the first time that I can remember first hearing a Green Day song was when I was about 9ish. It was either Basket Case or When I Come Around. I have an awful memory, but I can confidently narrow it down to those two songs. But when I officially became a fan when I was 10.
fatherotti Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 The summer of 2005, I was just starting High School when I was 14, we had a mix CD playing in the car and one of the songs happened to be BOBDs.....I think you where the lead to, little did I know it would literally change my life forever
norcalgreendayfan Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Jeez lets see I was about 15 and I remember seeing Basketcase on MTV. Yes MTV actually showed music videos back then I know some of the younger members of The GDC might find this hard to believe.
Pati. Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I was at home watching TV, and my bro forced me to watch some stupid video about the ten most funniest goal celebrations, and Holiday was the background music, and I was like: Whoa, this sounds awesome.Of course, I downloaded it and became obsessed.
misslyssx Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I first heard them when Dookie came out and my sister went to see them at some small place in San Fransisco. I think I was 7

norcalgreendayfan Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Oh hell no Im younger than you and even I knew it....Music Videos and Shows about Music Videos......Not about sex and rapWell thats good to know that means there is hope for humanity after all
Sarahnade. Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Well thats good to know that means there is hope for humanity after all Haha, I knew because Green Day always bitch about MTV not showing music anymore. Remember Billie's '09 VMA speech? "Play more music! From every artist!"
Isabel Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I've known about Green Day since '94 because my older brother was mad into them when he was a teenager and he used to play them in his room all the time. But it wasn't until 2001 when I started intentionally listening to them. I was sitting in my cousin's room and we were listening to Dookie. I was completely blown away by Chump and Longview and the fact that the two songs ran into one another. It was like a revelation missile exploded in my brain and I thought "Ohhhhh, so THAT'S what music is"I was hooked instantaneously.
Sister of Grace Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 in my livingroom watching TV it was basket case.
norcalgreendayfan Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Haha, I knew because Green Day always bitch about MTV not showing music anymore. Remember Billie's '09 VMA speech? "Play more music! From every artist!" Oh yeah thats right. Mtv should listen to Billie because Billie is god.
gabbag Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Well my parents have Dookie on tape, so I pretty much grew up with Green Day, so it was probably when I was really young because they would play it all the time and my brother and I would sing the songs in all their inappropriateness, but it wasn't until probably around American Idiot time that I became a huge fan. Like I had always liked them but I think I was too young to really get their music. So yea...
