Nothingwrongwithme.com put this up as news, and I thought it was pretty interesting. It's a written interview with Billie Joe from 2000 about how he writes songs, the process he and the band goes through, etc. I know it's an old interview, but I've just never seen it, and I thought it was interesting.

Link.

I love how Billie talks about his car. That Fairlane is so sexy.

Yes, I like boys and cars, what of it?

I hope the people that think Billie does everything (and Mike and Tre are basically backing musicians ) read this.

That's the same thing I thought when I read that part.

It's this part though that I loved

Did you have times when you tried to work and nothing would come?

Oh yeah. You get frustrated. You feel, “Man, I just want to write a fucking song.”

And sometimes it’s just not there. And you can’t dwell on that when that happens. You have to just let it go.

I don’t ever want to try to outdo myself. I feel like if you try to outdo yourself from the last thing, instead of just working on your inspiration, I think the music kind of suffers a little bit, sometimes. Sometimes I’ll just get a very general idea about the kind of song I want to write. And I’ll just sort of store it in the back of my mind and see what comes out. It can come out in five minutes, it can come out in five days, five years, five decades.

It really hits me because I haven't writen a full song in two years :/

That was an awesome interview. I felt like i got a better understanding of how the band works, which is hard nowadays since I already know so much!

It also encouraged me when he was talking about patience, since i've been in a rut with songwriting myself. Seems it happens even to the best of us

You're welcome. :)

And, I agree. I write poems/songs whenever I can, but I suffer major writers block a lot, it seems. It was interesting to hear him talk about getting frustrated, and how he lets the songs come naturally and such.

With me it's not just poems and songs.

I've been working on a chapter in a fanfic I've been writing and I seem to have come to a dead end on it :/

I hate when that happens, especially since I've got people who've been waiting ages

Ah, yes, me too. I write stories, and I'm stuck on chapter 15 of a particular one. It's so annoying. But, like Billie said, I don't want to force anything out because then it just isn't as good. I like to wait for those inspired moments. :)
