Hi!

So, I’m doing a profile on a Green Day concert for my writing class. So, I pretty much have to tell about it, and the emotion it evokes. Pretty much the whole experience that was had. I’m also telling about their stage performance, and then pulling things from interviews. But, if you have gone to a Green Day concert, and you’d like to help me out by answering the questions below, I would be so grateful!

Name:

Age:

Day of first Green Day concert:

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time:

Pit or seating? Experience with?

Second concert:

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first?

Pit or seating? Experience with?

(If you have more than 2 that you’d like to share, feel free!)

Any extra things that you can say about the concert, how you felt through it, how you felt after it and before. Tell me about their stage performance, and anything special that happened at the concert, great memories. Anything at all! I’d love to hear!

Thanks,

Jamie

Day of first Green Day concert: July 4 2009

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: Awe-struck. Amazed. Whole. It was actually a defining moment. The entire experience was incredible. Even just waiting in line, feeling the buzz & energy of everyone that loved the band as much as I did. And then finally experiencing this incredible moment where the band I love spills all its energy onto the floor for me to lap up. It was beautiful & charming & breathtaking.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit. I have mixed feelings about it. I LOVE LOVE the energy of the pit. The pulsing, the rhythm, the pure energy just flowing out of one body, combining with the music, and rushing into another. However I had a dick next to me the majority of the time who was plotting to take my spot and kept being a bitch in general and it was frustrating because instead of fully absorbing and experiencing the show, I was thinking about him.

Second concert: Hopefully in 2010.

I think going through On the Road might help you too. People talk about the shows in there. There's a thread per show. You can read peoples reactions, opinions, etc.

Day of first Green Day concert: August 20, 2009 in San Diego, CA

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time:

My mind when they walked on stage: *Oh my god! Green Day is walking on the stage. This is happening. Oh my God. This if finally happening. I've been waiting 4 years for this moment.*

Pit or seating? Experience with?

Seating, because being in the pit would make me sick. Seating is okay. It's probably not the best way to experience the concert, but it's better than not being able to be there at all. The seats weren't great, but I could see enough and I got to watch the graphics. Oh man. The graphics were awesome. I was still able to completely enjoy the concert and it was still an amazing experience. I've never clapped or otherwise interacted so much at a concert in my life and I've been to a couple dozen over the last 3 years. I could barely feel my fingers afterward. I was so exhausted. The setlist was awesome and I was totally hooked by everything. Billie Joe really did have control. The whole night was just good times that I hope never to forget. Good times. Really good times. I wish I could relive it over and over.

Second concert: August 25, 2009 in Inglewood, CA (Los Angeles, CA)

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first?

It was totally exhilarating seeing them again. I was thrilled. I was still a little high off San Diego a few days prior. I'd say the experiences were about equal because of seating circumstances.

Pit or seating? Experience with?

Seating again. The seats sucked bad. I couldn't see the background at all I was so far to the side. I stared at the bleached spot on the left side of Billie's hair all night wondering what the hell was in his hair. That's all I could stare at really. I was high up and way off to the side. It was still a great concert and I highly enjoyed it. I still clapped and interacted like I did in San Diego. I couldn't help myself. It was a lot of fun. Hated the seat location and the venue itself though. This concert taught me to fight with Ticketmaster more when trying to get seats. It also taught me that it really is possible to enjoy a concert from anywhere in a venue. It really was amazing still. Billie once again had complete control. Seeing them live is amazing.

Day of first Green Day concert: May 14, 2005

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: I was only 13 and I had already been obsessed with Green Day, but seeing them live changed everything. It was such an incredible experience for me.

Pit or seating? Experience with? I was in the front row, with my mom. We both got to touch Billie Joe's hand.

Second concert: August 12th, 2009

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? This experience blew the other concert out of the water! I won the Idiot Club contest that allowed me to take my camera in and take pictures the whole show. It also allowed me to be able to take pictures from inside the barrier for the first 2 Green Day songs. So I was pretty much leaning on the stage taking pictures. It was an extremely awesome experience. Billie Joe smiled at me when singing the first line of 21st Century Breakdown and Mike looked at me while I was taking his picture and he made a funny face right after I took it. After the 2 songs, I jumped right over the barrier to be with my friend and mom that were in the front, and enjoyed the rest of the show from the front, while I continued to take pictures and film the show. Then later in the show, I got pulled on stage to sing Longview in front of almost 10,000 people. FREAKING UNREAL EXPERIENCE. It feels like a crazy dream. Oh, and during the day my mom, and my best friend and I got to go into the soundcheck. So all 3 of the things I wanted to do, I got to do. I honestly don't think any day could top this one.

Pit or seating? Experience with? front row with mom and best friend

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: Tre walked on stage first, i started crying, there were a lot of people in front of me so i didnt see who walked out next, but i saw Billie and Mike and was aw struck at the fact that i was in the same room as the guys, the night was so amazing and surreal that i still have not accepted the fact that i have actually seen them live, it was so awesome that i dont even believe i was there.

Pit or seating? Experience with? I was in the pit, close enough to feel a few droplets of water from the squirt gun, i wish i was closer, some people were being dicks and trying to push my sister and i to get in front of us, we stood our ground, i held my sis's hand every time a mosh pit started so i wouldn't lose her, i jumped and screamed and sang and pumped my fist so much that my ankles were sore, my arms were tired, and my voice was piratically non existent, but i was smiling the whole night.

my second concert has not yet occurred lol but i hope to see them again when they swing back for the second leg of the US tour.

Day of first Green Day concert: July 14, 2009 in Detroit

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: I guess the best word would be awestruck. I'd been trying to go see them live since they were on tour for Dookie and it never worked out, so I was so excited to finally be there. It was a little surreal for me to be so close to one of my favorite bands, I'd never been that close to a stage for a concert before. When Billie Joe started yelling at everybody to stand up, I was thinking, "How is anybody sitting down right now?" I had one of the best nights of my life that night.

Pit or seating? Experience with? I was in the pit, pretty close to the end of the catwalk. I don't think I will ever forget how intense the crowd was for the first couple songs of the show. The excitement in the crowd was incredible, I loved being part of it. It was hot, sweaty and crowded, but it was really amazing. I got hit in the forehead with the water gun, which was very welcome considering how hot it was in there. One of my favorite memories from the show is seeing some people in front of me light up a joint and I wondered how long it would take for Billie to say something about smelling weed. A few minutes later, Billie went to reach for someone's hat and got hit with a huge cloud of smoke from those guys and Billie totally laughed it off and had fun with it, it was a really great moment.

Second concert: That was my only one, my second concert can't come soon enough.

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: a mixture of :o & :woot:

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit. This was before they got massively popular with American Idiot and I remember that particular crowd being really rough and full of middle aged men. It was pretty great.

Second concert: September 26, 2005

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit again and at the time I thought overall the show was better but this time the crowd had significantly less middle aged men and more young girls, which kinda sucked.

(If you have more than 2 that you’d like to share, feel free!) i've seen them 4 more times since and each one has been better than the last, although i have to say my favorite memory of any show ever is being pulled onstage against my will by BJA to sing.

Day of first Green Day concert: 04/14/09

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: It was mixture of happiness and excitment especially as Song of the century was playing and it just grew especially since it was the show at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA where they played the entire album and hearing all the songs from 21CB live was amazing, I cant even describe and just seeing the band live was awesome even more that I could have ever imagined

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit and it was a jam packed floor you could hardly move and I was sweating up a storm and kept getting bumped in to but overall It was worth it, I even crowd surfed during Longview

Second concert:08/18/09

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? Pretty much the same reaction as the first, awesome experience if not a little better just as the experience of seeing them on the official tour plus with them making their way up to the stage during Song of the Century from the back of the crowd which was totally awesome and again there was the mix of excitetment and happiness to be seeing the band live.

Pit or seating? Experience with? pit again and it was awesome since I was right along the railing where the catwalk meets the stage on the right side and again the crowd was on the rough side but thats to be expected especially when its kinda a hometown show for the guys, i think but still had a awesome time, also tried to get pulled up to sing Longview but it didnt happen, hoping next time it will though

Day of first Green Day concert: May 22, 2009 (Good Morning America)

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: They were amazing, even though it was a short little concert, they seemed excited still and into it. Billie was talking to us and they looked like they were having a lot of fun. They played extra songs just because they wanted too, and were basically kicked off of stage because the GMA people needed to clean it up. It was a lot of fun :D

Pit or seating? Experience with? I was right up by the barrier thing with my mom, in front of Jason White and it was awesome :)

Second concert: July 28, 2009

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? I wasn't sure how it was going to be since I had been so close during the Good Morning America show, and now was really far away, but they completely blew me away. Even from my crappy seat I still got so into the show and had a blast. They played for three hours and were just great. I think this concert was definitely better than the other Good Morning America one, though they both were great experiences and I cannot wait to see them again :)

Pit or seating? Experience with? I had really crappy seats at this concert, yet it was still absolutely amazing.

Day of first Green Day concert: July 13th, 2009

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: I was with a friend, and I just kept saying her name over, and over again. Completley freaking out. I thought I was going to cry, but I didn't - not even during the last song. When they first came out, I thought my heart was going to explode. And when Billie ran out in front of me, I was losing it. Mentally and emotionally, I was having a seizure. But in a good way.

Pit or seating? Experience with? I was in the pit. Pretty scary, but well worth it. I was with my best friend, but not really since we got seperated during the first song.

Day of first Green Day concert: Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: OH MY GOD, THEY'RE REAL!

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit. First row against the barrier at the edge of the catwalk. It was amazing to have Billie literally five feet away from me. He even leaned over a few times and he was close enough to touch. (I didn't, though. I'll stick out my hand and let them touch me if they want, but I'm not going to just grab them, I find it rude) a lot of people around me were really nice, although some weren't so nice. The girl to my right kept shoving me (I had really bad bruises afterwards). There was also a drunk guy causing trouble and spilling beer on some people's heads (including mine) but that didn't stop me from having a great time.

Second concert: Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 in Washington, DC

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? A LOT better. I got into the sound check. Also, I had an Ernie puppet and Billie brought it on stage! (didn't give it back, though :() I got two of Mike's picks and I got to hear Christie Road acoustic style!

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit, first row against barrier right in front of Mike. It was amazing. The people were a lot less rough than my first concert, and I also got more interaction with the band. Tre and I had a load of silly face contests. It was amazing.

Third concert: Friday, August 21st, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the others? YES. It was better than my first two combined. I got into the sound check again!!! Except this time, I got to talk to Tre, and he gave me his drumsticks! I also got Billie to get the whole band to play Misery! YES, MISERY. Another good song from the sound check was Scattered.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit, first row against the barrier and in front of Mike. (same place as in DC) The set list (except for the subtraction of American Eulogy) was SO much better than it's ever been. I got another one of Mike's picks (plus another one that my friend who works for the sound checks got for me and gave me earlier in the day). I tried to get on stage to either sing or play guitar. I had a sign that said "POR FAVOR!" on it (which means "please" in Spanish) Billie came up to me and said "Por favor? ...hmm........ nah, that's not good enough!" and picked someone else. Oh well, I still had a BLAST! What a way to end my Green Day filled summer! I CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR!

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: I TOTALLY freaked out. I couldn't believe it, after all these years there they were, right in front of me. I actually teared up a bit, i was so happy. & I had a huge, cheesy grin that stayed on my face the entire night.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit, front row against the barricade at the end of the catwalk. It was absolutely unbelievable. The setlist was amazing, they had so much energy and the crowd was great. I got to high five Mike, and Billie Joe wore my glasses  Not to mention i made a ton of amazing people that day. I couldn't have asked for a better first Green Day show

I haven't had a second concert yet, but hopefully that will change next year!

Day of first Green Day concert: Dallas, May 21, 2008 (FBHT show)

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: HOLY SHIT. That was basically it. I was so excited, I can't even describe it. I saw them in a really small, intimate venue, and they did not dissapoint. It was amazing being so close to them, and getting to meet them made it even better. I was surprised by how good they sounded live- it was just like the recording, but better (since some bands sound nothing like their CDs live).

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit, it was the only option. :P It was pretty good. I was 2nd row in front of Mike. Only problem was there was a really tall guy in front of me...and some bitch who used her cigarette to burn people to get in front of them that ended up taking my spot...but I got it back.

Second concert: Houston, 8/8/09

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? Not sure really. It was such a different experience. It was probably a little better, because I was in the front row where Mike was (centered in front of him), and he would interact with me and stuff, and made sure I had a fun night. I was also close enough to get soaked by Billie's water bottle and super soaker and what-not. It was also an amazing night. Hearing them in an arena, filled with hundreds of fans, is an experience unlike any other.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit, front row. It. Was. Amazing. I LOVE the energy of the pit, and I can't go to a concert and have seats now. It's just so...dull. Yeah, its' rough, hot, and crowded but I like it.

Day of first Green Day concert: 9/7/05

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: I had only liked the band a lot for five months when I first saw them. Being entirely honest, although I had a great time, I don't think I really appreciated the night for all it was worth. My knowledge of the band was still growing. I remember being completely in awe of being there. I could barely move - I was just stunned. I caught tons of confetti that I still have with me. :) It was a great night, but as I said, I didn't appreciate the night as well as I could had. For me then, I was 12 years old and just had a fun night. Emotionally, I wasn't really effected, more so just really excited. Due to my lack of GD/music knowledge in general, I think I missed out on a lot though. At that point I wasn't nearly as emotionally attached to them and their music.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Seating that was SO CLOSE to the stage. It was brilliant. I had a clear view of the stage, and when Billie came to our side of the stage, it was just - amazing.

Second concert: 7/21/09

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? Wow. This is quite the question. I've now been a Green Day fan for four (very close to five!) years. This band has become so much more to me than just "a band". They are - my life. Not because I put them on some Godly pedestal (although they are fucking amazing), but because I respect them. They are so devoted to their music and are such kick ass performers, and at the same time, are just the sweetest, nicest guys on the planet. My love for them is something I could go on and on about, but, when it comes down to it - I simply don't know what I would do without them. They made me who I am. All these emotions flowed through my head as I saw them for the second time. I thought about the insanely great impact they've had on my life, and - I just cried. Seeing them again was so emotional. The first time I saw them, I don't think I could've ever imagined how much I'd miss them while they were on hiatus. After waiting four years to see them again, the feeling of seeing them again just made me feel the happiest I have ever been. Ever, ever, ever. I smiled the entire night, with happy tears in between. It was definitely better than seeing them the first time, as now I had lots of time to develop such a strong connection with the band because I have now gotten to know them to the point where they're is no disconnect from them. They're just really fucking fantastic guys. I feel so close and connected to them. They're my home.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Seating. It was a little far away, but directly in front of the stage. I had a clear few, as I said, it was just a bit far away.

Third Concert: 7/27/09

Reactions: You know how when you see an amazing movie more than once in the theater, and you get the chance to pick up on the little things you missed the first time? That's what it was like going to see Green Day twice in one week. At this show, I felt a huge change in myself concerning the band. I just RESPECTED them and LOVED them and APPRECIATED them more than I ever had. I really paid close attention to how Billie was as a showman (it's hard not to, lol), and he's just like no other. He is utterly AMAZING with the fans, and knows just how to feed off the energy that the crowd gives him. I didn't just smile the whole night, I glowed. The 7/21 show was good, but the 7/27 show was hands down the greatest night of my life. There was a lot more Billie/crowd interaction (I thought), and Billie talkled a lot more (:)). It was great.

Again, we had seats. It was a high up view, but I was so "in the zone" that I felt like I was on stage. Incredible.

I should note that every single time I've seen them, I couldn't move, literally, for the first song. Every time I was stunned that they were right in front of me. :D

Day of first Green Day concert: July 16th, 2009

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: I saw Tre come out first. From where I was, it looked like he'd appeared from nowhere. And all I could think in my mind was "THEY ARE REAL!" then Mike and Billie showed up, and I was so awestruck. It was like a dream come true, finally seeing them in the flesh, not through a TV or computer screen for once.

Pit or seating? Experience with?: I was in the pit, and it was amazing. Being that close to the band, and the fans, and being a part of the main action was just amazing. It wasn't rough, and the people we were around we all really nice (one guy we were near kept picking my brother up because he couldn't see, until we got separated). I wasn't at the rail but I was so close, and on Mike's side. I probably watched Mike more that night than Billie, which was fine with me, and had a perfect view of Tre too. Gah, just thinking about it now is making me happy. xD The pit is definitely how I will try to experience all of my Green Day concerts, even if I'm alone for them. At a concert like Green Day, you don't need anyone with you to enjoy it, and everyone around you becomes your friend.

I haven't had a second concert yet, but next time I'm around it's a fo sho thing I'm going. ;)

Day of first Green Day concert: August 25th, 2009

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: Indescribable. I remember the week before I was in the hospital, and was bummed because I thought I was going to miss it. However, the Saturday before the concert I bullied my doctor into letting me go home, and telling my parents I was fine. I'm usually not one to do that but def. worth it. As the lights came up, I found the urge to scream at the top of my lungs...Best experience of my fucking life.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Unfortunately seating. I wanted to be in the mosh pit (yes, i know it's a bit interesting figuring it out with a wheelchair), but it wasn't accessible. So I had to go in the lodge. Still great seats. Could soak in every graphic, and pyro effect.

Second concert: Hopefully 2010. HOPEFULLY IN A MOSH PIT

Day of first Green Day concert: July 22nd, 2009.

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: It was when "Do You Remember Rock N' Roll Radio?" by The Ramones was playing when I thought to myself, "This is real. This isn't a fantasy. I've waited almost 4 years for this moment, and here it is! I'm going to be seeing Billie, Mike, and Tre' in person, not just through a TV or computer screen anymore. The best night of my life is going to start shortly. My biggest dream in the world... is coming true right now." When the lights dimmed and I heard the static indicating the start of Song Of The Century - and the beginning of the concert - I was filled with so much... joy and pure happiness that I couldn't help but scream as loud as I could. I couldn't help but sing along. And when Billie, Mike, and Tre' came out on stage... it was like I transformed into a completely different person. I was screaming, jumping, and cheering. And normally, I'm quiet and reserved.

Pit or seating? Experience with? I was in the Pit. I was about 5 to 6 rows of people away from the barrier. It was incredible. I went with my cousin Bobby and his fiance Erika. We got separated away from each other shortly after 21st Century Breakdown started.

Second concert: I haven't been to a second concert. Yet. But I'll do whatever it takes to go to another GD show.

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: Totally amazing My mom freaked out during Billie's performance of Hitchin' A Ride and I almost got kicked out because I was jumping around in the aisle

Pit or seating? Experience with? nose-bleed. My best friend at the time, my mom, and my little brother

Second concert: July 13th 2009

Reactions to seeing the band live again, better experience than the first? They amaze me every time. I loved the fact that Billie brought people on stage and would joke around with them. "The worst stage dive ever" was indeed what he said it was and I met new friends (one of which was celebrating her birthday).

Pit or seating? Experience with? Pit, friend that I grew up with

at both shows I felt like I belonged, that I was with my own kind and I could be myself. I have learned from past experiences that Green Day and Green Day fans are some of the best people in the world.

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: Pure joy. There's no other way I could explain it. This band has sustained me and made life better and easier for me for the past five years, and seeing them in real life, as people, was overwhelming. I was so happy. I sang myself hoarse, clapped until my hands were red and raw, and got a lovely bruise on my leg from jumping into my seat. I felt like I belonged there. When they came out on stage, my heart was pounding so hard I thought I was going to pass out. I sang along with every word. Whenever I met eyes with someone, we both smiled or pumped our fists. Outside, there were two guys selling sodas yelling, "Give it up for Green Day!" So of course I gave a shout. It felt like a huge rock and roll family reunion and Green Day were the favorite relatives.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Nosebleed seats--I was up against the back wall, swear to God. Too far away! I wanted to up closer to the action.

Second concert: Keeping everything I can cross on my body crossed that they come around in 2010!

I hope that helps! I just wrote up my concert experience for my creative writing class. :)

Reaction to first seeing the band for the first time: When the lights went off and Song of the Century started playing I went crazy. Started jumping up and down, a smile plastered on my face repeatedly saying "Oh my God," over and over. Then when the guys came out on the stage I went even more hysterical. I was the happiest I've been in ages.

Pit or seating? Experience with? Seating. I really wanted pit, but friends didn't want to. They weren't good seats but they weren't bad seats either. I really want to experience the pit next time. But I was grateful I was able to see them.

Second concert: When they hopefully come back around in 2010.
