Rae'n'shine Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I searched to see if there was anything like this topic, and I didn't find anything, so feel free to close this thread if this has already been a topic. I'm just wondering if Green Day's music has ever saved somebody? Everybody goes through hard times in their life, so has Green Day helped you deal with something tragic happening to you? Whether Green Day's music has saved your life, or saved you from becoming an empty shell person, etc. If so, what song or album helped you? Green Day's music is to powerful and honest, it's hard not to connect with the lyrics and music. For me personally, the album American Idiot saved me from losing who I was during a troubled time in my life. Mostly the song Jesus of Suburbia helped me get through high school a complete person (complete being sanity in check and being aware of who I was as a person.) When this trouble time for me ended, I had enormous love and respect for Green Day and that's what made me become the huge fan I am today. So, don't be afraid to post personal stories here. We're all friends and can share experiences that pull us closer together as a community. I hope this isn't stupid, I'm just generally curious to see what people in GDC have to say.
Tiffx Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Music in general has helped me keep perspective when everything seems pointless or when I just feel like giving up. But sometimes it's not enough. Listening to a song like JOS makes me feel better when times are rough though, it's a short term fix.
Astrid. Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 The only song ever that helped me in some troubled times was Christie Road. Everything in that song seemed to connect with me during that time. But if they saved me? I don't know about that.
Ayame Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I did a project on them and that saved me from a detention...
thenextsexpistol_mak Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 i dont know how to put this.,..but sometimes when youre fucked up and angryto listen to someone else who knows that feeling, whos just as angry as you...it kinda helps, i cant tell how exactly, but it fucking does
Astrid. Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 ^Yeah I think I know what you mean. It's something you can share. Even though you can't talk to them or see them at that moment.
Guest Hayley Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 It hasn't really saved but it has helped me become a different person and I can tell that their music has a great impact on me.
Maddy. Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 It hasn't really saved but it has helped me become a different person and I can tell that their music has a great impact on me.I couldn't have really put it better.
elisa Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 It hasn't really saved but it has helped me become a different person and I can tell that their music has a great impact on me.same here (:
Trina Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Green Day haved saved my life and continuosly do so. I have nothing besides them. They make me realise I'm not actually completely insane and that there are other people out there, feeling what I feel too. I would definatly not be here if it weren't for them.
Dai. Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 There is another thread like this, but it's over 3 years old so I'll close it and leave this one open.
emmaILGD! Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 It hasn't really saved but it has helped me become a different person and I can tell that their music has a great impact on me.This.They've helped me to be happy with myself and I've also made some amazing friends through their music, but I wouldn't say they 'saved' me.
Mari91 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 It hasn't really saved but it has helped me become a different person and I can tell that their music has a great impact on me.i think hayley hits the point exactlytheir really music has definitely had a great impact on me
04rebhop Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Yeah. If it weren't for Green Day i'd have nothing to do. I wouldn't have anything to look forward to, such as Gigs. They were the ones that got me into music, and made me realise that there was a genre of music that was good. It changed me as a person, and made me take up the guitar, which i got a C in my music GCSE for, which i am so happy with.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 If it weren't for Green Day, I wouldn't be here today. Same with The Replacements. There music works wonders on the soul.
Chelsea Hotel Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I'm not going to say they saved me from something like suicide, but Green Day always made sure life didn't seem as bad as I thought it was--like, say, all of middle school. It's kid of hard to put into words... only my other friends who love Green Day know what I'm talking about. it's just them, you know? There's nobody else like them.
Trotsky Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I think it's a flaw in people's thinking that they would have been fucked if they didn't find certain music. They do find it and they are very comforted by it. But if they never found it in the first place they'd find another coping mechanism of some kind.

chaoschloeshesarebel Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 i don't know whether to say Green Day saved me or helped me.If it weren't for their music, i don't know where i'd be. I actually don'thearing someone who's been in a similar position, or someone who is able to express words in such a way, is enlightening in a way. I'm unsure as to whether Green Days music actually 'saved me'.Although, given the chance to meet them, i'd probably end up saying they saved me hahaa
PleasedToMeetMe Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 GD definatly saved me. I've been a fan for 15 years now, and if I never woulda heard those opening chords to 'Burnout' who knows what my life would be like today.
Ally Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 To much, it is safe to say without the fateful day i heard American idiot (album) i wouldn't be here anymore, i was severely depressed and attempted suicide once, but it was that album that helped me get through my depression, you yeah i guess you can say "green day saved me". Now everytime i'm depressed st jimmy is the song i listen to and it always makes me feel better for some obscure reason!
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Not sure if this counts, because it was kind of a chance thing, but I'll mention it anyway.Seventh grade was a really bad year for me because a ton of things happened that were beyond my control, and I was really close to hurting myself after a really bad day. I was up in my room, curled up in bed with the radio on, and "When I Come Around" started playing.I really don't know what that whole deal was, but I felt like a huge relief afterwards.
JHyena86 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Hmmm, they save me from doing stupid stuff sometimes. When I get angry I sort of say what I want without thinking and hurting people. But if I listen to GD it usually helps me calm down so that does happen. And they sorta saved me from myself- I was a pretty depressed and unhappy person before I found them because I felt very out of place. But I found them, and through them found other people like me (like almost everyone on this site), and it helped a lot knowing I wasn't alone in the world.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I'm soo glad they're still around
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Green day takes away my killer headaches.
