Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I gotta ask you guys something, and I wasn't sure where to post about it..BUT, I had a couple of friends that were at the concert with me on August 12th, and during East Jesus Nowhere, one of them got extremely offended at the backdrop. I guess it has jesus on it, with a bloody cross, he got so offended that he actually left. Its really bugging me and it really kinda hurt my feelings when he left and I don't even know what to say to him. Then after he told me about it all, I told him that its just they're opinion and you shouldn't get offended by someone else opinion, and he said that they took it to far, and that they're making a mockery of it. He won't understand the fact that the song is about the hypocracy of religious fanatics, and they're making a mockery of the hypocrites not the whole religion...what do you guys think about it? and do you know anybody who have gotten offended by Green Day in any way?btw, i'm pretty sure this is it
Brandon R. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 That's to be expected sometimes.Artistic expression comes at the expense of people getting offended more times than not.Just have to roll with it.
musicrulzmylife Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 It's a shame that your friend took it that way and left, he sure missed an amazing show.
Greenday_Aussie Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Religious nutcases...we could do with less of them.
Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 It's a shame that your friend took it that way and left, he sure missed an amazing show.he really did :/ Religious nutcases...we could do with less of them.i second that
TaylorKlinke Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I don't get what's to be offended by the backdrop...When it comes to religion I'm not sure what I believe as of now..........but Jesus was on a bloody cross...But also, it's not like Green Day is saying "God isn't real. Don't believe in him."
Brandon R. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 But also, it's not like Green Day is saying "God isn't real. Don't believe in him."A lot of people don't realize this though. That's probably because they don't take time to listen to the lyrics. The song is more of a testament (ha) to the state of today's Church and the hypocrisy that's associated with it than anything else.
TaylorKlinke Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 A lot of people don't realize this though.Well, I've heard of bands who actually get on stage and TALK into the microphone that God isn't real. But yeah...
Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Well, I've heard of bands who actually get on stage and TALK into the microphone that God isn't real. But yeah...yeah i have too
persons Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 i don't know why he would get so offended, he should just get over it though.
emmaILGD! Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I can understand why he got offended, some people take things too much to heart. But at the end of the day, it's an opinion. And I don't know of anyone that's been offended by Green Day.
bjrules Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I really hate it when people take things like this straight to heart. He shouldn't have left, it would have been a great show.
Tiffx Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Everyone has their own beliefs so sometimes being offended is inevitable. I just hope your friend can get over it and not hold a grudge.

I just hope your friend can get over it and not hold a grudge.thats what i'm hoping too :/ he even told me that he told a friend about "what green day did" and his friend threw out any of their CDs that he had. wtf, idiots i say.

They're blowing things way outta proportion. Like, it would be more understandable if billie joe would have all been like "EVERYONE GOD IS NOT REAL..." or ya know, something along those lines. Plus, it's only one song with this opinion about religion.

Greenday_Aussie Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Oh yeah, your a bitch for getting to rock out with GD Hopefully I get a chance with playing JOS. You rocked btw!
watsername182 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I can see how your friend got offended by the backdrop. For me personally it doesn't seem all that bad but coming from a fairly religious background, I know that some people take offense quite easily when it comes to these things.I used to get nervous listening to Jesus of Suburbia when some of my family friends were around.
Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Oh yeah, your a bitch for getting to rock out with GD Hopefully I get a chance with playing JOS. You rocked btw! thanks! hopefully you won't get unlucky and green day decide not to play JOS for some odd reason...
Greenday_Aussie Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Im going 2 nights in a row...so theyd better one night! (I hope the first..Im up front for that one!)
Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 LUCKY! well good luck to you. Being up there was definatly the best feeling EVER
Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 back to the topic though,it just bothers me so much! cause hes someone that i talk to on a daily basis and with all the things that have been going on, I talk about Green Day alot. The concert was like me falling in love all over again, so its green day channel 24/7 in my brain, right now. lol. and before, i used to talk about green day somewhat a lot anyway and he would either join in or at least listen. now it just sucks.
Kryssi. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 It all depends on how much you're into religion and how much you're going to let it get in the way of you having fun. I'm not religious in the slightest so it's easy for me to say that that isn't offensive. But you'll find some nuts out there who will find it offensive and take it too literally. But from that image on the backdrop, who's to say it's Jesus? It's just a cross with a mans face behind it. People have gotta deal with other people not taking religion seriously.
Modern Zero. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 It's weird because my grandma and my mom said those EXACT same things when they went to the GD concert with me in Chicago. LOL Yes, my grandma and my mom were there, although they had seats and I was in the mosh pit. Anyway, my grandma was all like, "OMG, they were making a mockery out of Jesus!" And I tried to explain to her about it because it's not a mockery on Jesus. That's not the intention. I mean...I guess I could see why she was mad at that, but idk. If you knew my grandma, then you would know how much of a huge Christian she is. Seriously. She doesn't think that people should be allowed to drink ONE alcoholic beverage, even though they had wine in the Bible. But she says, "No. That wasn't wine. That was grape juice." There was no possible way that it was grape juice, because they didn't have any way of preserving it. And I mean...even in these cartoon videos of the story where Jesus somehow turns water into wine, people are acting drunk in the background. And then, she doesn't think that anyone could cuss at all, even though she does it. Like...when we left the concert she was complaining about how Billie would cuss all of the time. lol Yeah, Billie does have a habit of saying that kind of stuff, but a lot of it is a "stage thing" if you know what I mean. But yeah, she was all like, "I'm gonna go up there and wash his mouth out with soap!" Could you imagine that? An old grandma walking on to the stage all like, "You listen here you little punk!" xD I mean, my grandma's not that old. She's only fifty, but still. So after the concert when we went back into my grandma's van, I put in 21CB and when Christian's Inferno came on, she was like "Does this mean that they want to burn Christian's or something!?" And I'm like, "Ugh. NO. It's about a character named Christian. You know...the dude that's on the cover of the album?" And it was also annoying because my friend and I noticed that my grandma and my mom would be talking in the car and stuff while all of the "good/slow" songs were on. The ones that DON'T have any cussing and doesn't talk about Christians, for example, Last Night On Earth. They were talking the whole time while that was on. The songs that kinda prove that Green Day are not bad people. LOL And then they wouldn't talk at all during songs like East Jesus Nowhere and stuff like that. So yeah. That really sucks about what happened with your friend. Personally, I'm not offended at all with that backdrop and I'm sure that most GD fans aren't, just because we understand what it's about. But I guess another reason why I wasn't offended is because I don't really consider myself a Christian and I'm not really religious in any way. I just wish that they could be more open-minded about that stuff and realize that the lyrics in that song are true. :/
