Thank you Green Day

I've always been one of those people who has been disappointed and bitter with green day since the american idiot tour. I never really understood the guys, how could they play the same songs all the time and just pop in a rare song every "25th" concert? Did they really have fun? (of course they had). But I remember late in summer of 2005 seeing them in sweden and I was so disappointed with the set list, with Billie Joe saying the same old clichés that he had said for the whole tour so far, well I was bitter and disappointed with a lot of things. And I'm not taking that back that's how I felt at the time and what I still feel about the AI-tour/era.

well now...Directly after the first 2-3 shows of 21cbd tour when I saw the set lists I was having the same feeling again and I wrote in the forum, i think I even started a topic about how much this tour will blow basicly..yeah I didnt say it would suck but deep inside me I had this feeling I didnt like at all. So I went all dramatic and upset a lot of people that had faith in what the guys are doing.

well now.. how do I feel now?

I'm kind of ashamed of what some things I said, and it was so naive and immature of me trying to predict the whole damn tour by just the judging of 2-3 shows. As for as I can see this is probably the best tour they've ever had, sure they maybe had bigger audiences with the AI-tour(?). But to ME the band seems to have a lot more fun on stage now, and being more spontaneous and casual. It's like every second show is like the warfield gig back in 05, remember that one? (who could forget). Green day can't please everyone, I've learned that but with this tour it will be really effing hard not make everybody in the room happy with a memory of their own.

I don't know if anything of this made sense to anybody or if any of you have seen me on this forum (or care for that matter haha) but I just had to write this down and again, I'm sorry for my immature behavior sometimes and I'm sorry Green Day for almost losing faith sometimes. I can't wait for the concert in october!

cheers

Nothing has matched the Warfield so far (I doubt they will again) but its been pretty good. Better than AI tour.

That show is a story of it's own. But I was just drawing rough paralells :)

How long did that show go for? I have it on my iPod. Seems like they covered almost every album! :o

3 hours maybe? what I really love about this tour is that it seems that the band have listened to the fans and are willing to take "risks" by playing songs not known to everybody. That's fucking rad and It makes me respect the guys even more

It's okay. You have a right to feel that way. They do have a lot of cliches when it comes down to concerts and shows, but they do try and mix it up a bit. Remember one of the first threads about their shows and how people were complaining about them only playing for a little over two hours and not 'fullfilling their promises' to play the whole album, or to play old school songs of theirs? I was one of the main people defending them over this and saying people need to chill the fuck out. They had only just started touring and people were already bitching. Now see who's laughing.

The first damned show in Seattle wasn't even OVER before the bitching began.

same here. I just really really hope they'll continue to do that in europe.

Oh. that's so true. But you got the jest

I was just sick of people bashing them and not given them time to settle into the routine again.

I'm just as glad to see how the tour developed, with the band mixing it up more. All in all it was a fantastic opening leg, and i fully expect them to continue it around the world.

The Warfield show is legendary. At the time, i was considering flying out for that show, not knowing what was in store. If only i had! But, it spurred me on to travel over to see the Hot Tubs, so that certainly made up for it!

No apologies necessary, I think the ground rule around here is that everyone'e entitled to their opinion even if it's wrong. :D

But seriously -- I saw Green Day live for the first time on this tour, a little over a month ago in Washington DC. I can say without any doubt that it was the best fucking concert I've ever been to in my life. The band has so much synergy, so much energy, and such a great stage presence. Every little bit of energy you give them in the crowd gets digested, turned around, and just plain spewed right back out at you bigger than it was before, and it doesn't let up until the last chords of "Good Riddance" echo away. Now I find that all I need to do if I'm in a lousy mood now is listen to the opening line from my webrip of the Christie Road acoustic that Billie played for us (for the very first time ever), and it brings me right back there in an instant. "Staring outside my window, watching the cars go rolling by".... Billie strumming gently on his guitar, the whole damn arena realizing what he was doing for us and jumping in to sing right along with him....:wub::wub: I still can't believe I can pull a buzz up just by simply thinking about that.

Meanwhile, my wife -- who never appreciated Green Day's music (especially during the Dookie days) and barely tolerated my excitement about the concert for the 2+ months after I got tickets through the IC presale -- was blown away by their stage presence, how well they sound live, and Billie's incredible crowd-working ability. Yeah, we're going to see them again one day when they bring the tour to the East Coast again, and we can't wait.

So yeah, we know what you mean. Have a blast when you see them in October -- we wish we could join you there!

That's amazing you posted this --- I have such a hard time admitting I'm wrong when it comes to shit like this. Or anything at all, really. Props to you for being honest to us and yourself, and I'm glad you're not bitter about the boys anymore.

After all, Billie Joe's known to say things like, 'I just don't want to let anybody down,' about shows, so we know they're trying their very best to make each concert absolutely stellar!

I think it's really cool that you posted this. You lost faith in the band for a little while, but came back to them (which is the important thing). :)

I think a lot of people are afraid to admit when they lose faith in their favorite band, even it's for only a short while, because they think it makes them less of a fan, which is absolutely false. Stuff happens, and you can't help how you feel. Kudos to you for admitting how you were feeling and realizing that maybe you jumped the gun feeling the way you did.

The guys put everything they have into performing. It's so obvious when you watch them that they are just having so much fun and are so in love with what they do. It's quite a sight to see. Perhaps I'm biased, but I think they have the best showmanship of the current rock bands today. They really just go all-out with full energy for 2 and a half hours, and I think it's incredible. I went to two shows this past summer, and I can safely say that they were the best two nights of my life. I felt very lucky to have been able to see them. I promise you will NOT be disappointed come October! Have fun!

This tour has been something incredible, even just looking at set lists. I was unfortunately at the second show so none of the rare songs had been pulled out, but it was still a mind blowing experience nonetheless. It's cool that you're able to admit fault & share your Born Again Green Day experience :)

Well well, Swedish people are doubters. They need to get it in with a teaspoon.
