packers182 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 So i just read this article in the San Francisco Chronicle about Green Day and was appalled by the article written and had to post it. The way the editor puts down Green day and every album and calls Nimrod "the one with the Seinfeld song," what a idiot. What do you think? Here is the article:http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?.../PKVO19ACDL.DTL
blitzkriegdeb Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Not gonna lie, I kind of agree with the editor's thing about 21stCB, but yeah, it was wicked harsh.
TinaGD Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 That was actually quite harsh.Yeah, it was pretty harsh :/
Guest Shangri-La Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 the most offensive thing about the article is the Green Day/Styx comparison.
Seedless_Reject Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I have a feeling that the person who wrote the article just wanted attention from the band.
Raychul Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 That was harsh but I think it was more embarrassing for the journalist, himself; it was extremely bland and was written very immaturely. Boy, did he get his point across *sarcasm*
mad hatter. Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 The one with the "Seinfeld" song, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),"Hey now. Good Riddance has been in a lot more than Seinfeld.
packers182 Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 The one with the "Seinfeld" song, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),"Hey now. Good Riddance has been in a lot more than Seinfeld.i know wtf kind of comment is that. The editor who wrote this has obviously never listened to Green Day.... ever
GarinRichards Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 o.owow.That was quite harsh. But that was horribly written >_>
.Militza. Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Lol, this guy should get some life, maybe he wouldn't be so bitered.
packers182 Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 Lol, this guy should get some life, maybe he wouldn't be so bitered.i agree
Tiffx Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Even as Green Day started to lose its way toward the end of the decade, disciples like Blink-182 and Sum 41 stepped in to keep turning out songs about passing gas, masturbating and popping zits.Okay I can't fucking stand it when people/journalists pass off Green Day's older music as 'nothing' songs about masturbating and shit. Their music has always had meaning, it's always been about something more and shouldn't be taken at face value. To me Longview wasn't just about masturbating, it was about being bored and unmotivated. A lot of people can relate to that, plus it's only one song that mentions masturbation. Clearly anyone who thinks their songs were about masturbating and 'passing gass' apparently don't have a fucking clue. Just pisses me off thats all.
.Militza. Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 ^ Oh yes, me too.edit: I was referring to Tiffx.
Modern Zero. Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Wow. I guess that guy has no clue what he's even talking about. Saying that Nimrod is "the one with the "Seinfield" song" makes it seem like he didn't even take the time to listen to their music. And seriously...how is this even a review? Each section for each album is not even a paragraph long. Teenagers can write better than that. There's nothing professional about this "review" at all. He seriously could have gotten way deeper into this and deeper into the research, but I guess the only thing that he desired to do was flat out put Green Day down. And I definately agree with Tiffx, by the way. Green Day's music has ALWAYS been meaningful, AND relatable. If a song is "just" about masterbating, so what? Millions of guys all around the world can relate to that. Which, I agree, Longview isn't just about masterbating. It's mainly about being unmotivated.
Velocity Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 That was harsh but I think it was more embarrassing for the journalist, himself; it was extremely bland and was written very immaturely. Boy, did he get his point across *sarcasm*I agree. And according to the comments he's written reviews like this before on other bands. I guess everything he writes should be taken with a grain of salt I suppose.
Guest Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 lol it kills me that because there was ONE song about masturbation everything green day wrote pre-warning is considered immature
Hermione Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Not so much harsh as totally misinformed and inaccurate! This thing is so littered with inaccuracies and vagueness it makes me laugh, he clearly knows virtually nothing of the band or their music. Nothing to pay attention to here.Okay I can't fucking stand it when people/journalists pass off Green Day's older music as 'nothing' songs about masturbating and shit. I see "From a band who started out singing about masturbation..." in almost every article about Green Day and I just roll my eyes.
Modern Zero. Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 lol it kills me that because there was ONE song about masturbation everything green day wrote pre-warning is considered immatureLMAO. Exactly. Because of course one masterbation song totally equals everything else is immature. But, OH. Rap artists can totally write a song about wanting to fuck women in a club, but OH NO. A masterbation song!? WE CAN'T HAVE THAT! THAT'S IMMATURE! Seriously. That's how their thought process and logic works.

.Militza. Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 He calls himself a reviewer? Oh God! I'm the Queen, how's that?
Drink Drank Punk Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 He's so wrong about 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours.

So much of it was totally wrong, it made me cringe just looking at it. :/ Papers shouldn't hire journalists who know nothing about their topic, and this guy needs to stop being such a grouch. At least it's just one person's opinion!
Angie-Marie Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 It's hard for me to get upset about such a poorly written article. I get the impression he was told to write about the American Idiot musical, didn't want to because he doesn't like Green Day, so all he did was vaguely mention the musical and go off on a tangent about how he doesn't like Green Day. He's entitled to his opinion and all, but I have absolutely no idea what this album-by-album review has to do with the American Idiot musical. There are fifth graders who are better at staying on topic than this guy.
