somedaygirl Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I looked and don't see a thread for this.Heard this last night for the first time and was pretty shocked...they didn't just smudge or silence or noise over things small minded peeps might find offensive, the lyric was completely rewritten. "Like a dog that's been sodomized" became something about testified and no dog and "never asked you a god damn thing" was SO far from that I don't even remember what it was. I sat there staring at the radio like WTF??? I'm feeling a little disappointed in the boys at the moment. The went toe to toe with Walmart to preserve the intergrity of the music without editing and then don't just edit but actually rewrite for radio.
son Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 wow thats incredibly weird, can you find a sample?i hope its the new single though
fashionvictim86 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Well yeah, you kinda have to edit for the radio, but they didn't edit the CD.i hope its the new single thoughIt's been confirmed for months that EJN is the new single.
son Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 It's been confirmed for months that EJN is the new single.haha my apologies, ive been away for a while. damn you college!
jenni Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I didn't know it either.and censorship sucks! WTF is that?!
somedaygirl Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 I went back to the station's site and they have a playlist but its not timed so I don't know where to look on the list. And of course it had to be edited, but they actually rewrote. That's what I'm having trouble with. I can't remember the "god damn thing" line because the rewrite simply made no sense with the rest of the lyrics. Using "testified" again when that was just there like 2 lines earlier is why that replacing it in the rewrite for "dog that's been sodomized" stood out. I felt unclean after hearing it. LOL
Lauren Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 weird for them to actually change it instead of just bleeping or silencing... but maybe it was because it was too much to silence? like a word or two is fine but if the whole phrase is silenced, it'll sound weird.
emmaILGD! Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 But you have to edit things for the radio, right?Hopefully it'll just make more people buy the album and hear the proper version.

Sarahnade. Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Jeez.I get that it's a song that needs some editing to be played on the radio, and I guess I should've expected this, but I can't help but be a little irked by it. The song is probably changed around quite a bit, and it's going to be so fucking weird.
WorryRock02 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 we can only hope that the song will no change also in the video
Sarahnade. Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 we can only hope that the song will no change also in the videoOh, God. I didn't think of that. It'll probably get changed for the video too.Ugh. That'll piss me off. I really don't want that.
DarrenDookie Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Wow, talk about a load of BS. Im sure youve all heard Akons new song "Sexy Bitch"......why the hell isnt that edited?Like Billie Joe said "Theres nothing dirty on our record"The parts edited dont have swear words or anythin, as if someone would care if they heard the word "god" on the radio. At least I dont ever really listen to the radio

EJN isn't saying "Jesus sucks," or anything like that. It's just questioning things, but people can't understand that. Hardcore faith fanatics would be up at arms if they heard the actual lyrics on the radio, though, and then a whole mess would ensue. It's so stupid.
Nikki_Nimrod Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Hopefully it'll just make more people buy the album and hear the proper version.This.I can't really think of any other positive things about it getting edited haha. I'm really curious to hear it. I'm already bugged when any song gets edited for radio, but i can't imagine what one this powerful and meaningful would end up sounding like. I'm sure the message will still be there, but it's probably gonna sound really different. I can understand why they did it, because of all the controversy it would cause and blah blah blah, but it still sucks. Especially because there's so many other things played on the radio that are WAY worse, as people above have mentioned. I bet it's gonna take a lot of getting used to.
saffy Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 This is even worse that editing the word redneck out of american idiot, all the songs on the radio would end up being about how wonderful everything is. That's one of the things i don't like about the US, the censorshipOh, God. I didn't think of that. It'll probably get changed for the video too.Ugh. That'll piss me off. I really don't want that.I don't think it will, but if they do it, someone from out of the states could record the uncersored version
LilyMarie Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 This is irritating. I expected it to be 'bleeped' or whatever, but to *change* it? That pisses me right off. You can play 'Crazy Bitch' by Buck Cherry, but not this? CLOSER by NIN got airplay without lyric changes for christs sake!
trejack101 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Maybe the radio station you listen to just sucks and other stations and DJ's have the stones to play the unedited version. Besides, sex without a condom is so much better.
Chelsea Hotel Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Radio/TV is too afraid to ruffle any conservative feathers these days. If it's really bothering you, listen to the far superior album version.
Heather! Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Ugh, it's so stupid. I remember they once played the live version of St. Jimmy on tv and censored the word "assassin."and in an unrelated matter, on Comedy Central the word "holocaust" was censored on Bo Burnham's special.Censorship is fucking ridiculous, and this song is really not the worst out there in terms of content.
Lauren Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 This is irritating. I expected it to be 'bleeped' or whatever, but to *change* it? That pisses me right off.but the problem is that they'd end up bleeping the whole sentence. a bleep or silence is okay for one or two words, but to hear 5 straight seconds of it is even more annoying.Ugh, it's so stupid. If someone says "asshole", they censor hole, but not ass.also NEW AVATAR WTFi'm sorry?
