I'm searching for the correct lyrics to Nimrod

Okay, I'm preparing for the Green Day concert, which means I'm learning to sing all Green Day songs word by word.

I still have a lot of time, the concert is in November, but I decided to do an album every week.

Today, I'm doing Nimrod.

Sadly, I've got some problems... :(

1) Hitchin' a Ride:

I was always wondering what Billie's singing at the end of Hitchin' a Ride.

Sounds like "Hitchin' a ride - take one for the road trip".

Doesn't make much sense to me, so what is he actually saying?

I also don't understand Mike in the verse before that, when Billie sings seven times "Hitchin' a ride", and Mike sings something like "Don't know where I'm going".

And when Billie sings the last time "There's a drought at the fountain of youth, now I'm dehydrating." Is dehydrating or dehydrated correct?

He always sings dehydrating but in this verse it sounds like dehydrated.

2) The Grouch:

After singing the chorus ("Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals...) the second time, Billie says something. I don't understand that sentence at all.

3) Scattered

What does Billie sing before "Drag it on and on until my skin is ripped to shreds."?

Something like "and"? Or "we'll"?

4) Platypus (I Hate You)

"Your rise and fall" or "You rise and fall"?

"Red eye code blue" or "Red eye cold blue"?(both doesn't make much sense)

5) Jinx

"Nail me to the cross until you have won." or "Nail me to the cross and tell me you've won."?

6) Haushinka

"This girl has gone far away" or "This girl is from far away"?

7) Reject

After the last line ("To hell and back and hell again I've gone.") Billie says something. Right before the ending.

8) Take Back

What does Billie say before "Stick a knife in the center of your back". Sounds like "I'd".

"Gun for a gun" or "A gun for a gun"?

"Lights out can't take anymore" or "Lights out I can't take it anymore" or "Lights out can't take it anymore" or "Lights out I can't take anymore.

(Wow  Sorry if you're confused :D )

9) Prosthetic Head

When Billie sings the last time

"I see you, down on the front line.

Such a sight for sore eyes, you're a suicide makeover.

You don't know.

You don't say.

And you got no reply".

"And you got no reply" sounds like "When you got no reply"?

Okay, I think that's it.

I don't want the lyrics that are printed in the booklet, because those are always different from the lyrics Billie's actually singing.

Please help me to get the correct lyrics, if you've time :D

Well, thanks, but the lyrics on GDA are the lyrics from the album booklet.

) Hitchin' a Ride:

I was always wondering what Billie's singing at the end of Hitchin' a Ride.

Sounds like "Hitchin' a ride - take one for the road trip". unsure.gif

He always sings dehydrating but in this verse it sounds like dehydrated.

billie said himeslf, he just mumbles stuff at the end of the song. no real words. mike says 'don't know where to' and i would say 'dehydrating'.

2) The Grouch:

After singing the chorus ("Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals...) the second time, Billie says something. I don't understand that sentence at all.

'I had a young and optimistic point of view'

3) Scattered

What does Billie sing before "Drag it on and on until my skin is ripped to shreds."?

Something like "and"? Or "we'll"?

'Well'

4) Platypus (I Hate You)

"Your rise and fall" or "You rise and fall"?

"Red eye code blue" or "Red eye cold blue"?(both doesn't make much sense)

'your rise'...'red eye, code blue'

5) Jinx

"Nail me to the cross until you have won." or "Nail me to the cross and tell me you've won."?

'....and tell me....'

6) Haushinka

"This girl has gone far away" or "This girl is from far away"?

'this girl has gone far away'

7) Reject

After the last line ("To hell and back and hell again I've gone.") Billie says something. Right before the ending.

Again, I'm certain that is just random mumbling.

(Wow blink.gif Sorry if you're confused biggrin.gif )

'I'll stick a knife'.......'Gun for a gun'....'Lights out can't take, can't take anymore'

9) Prosthetic Head

When Billie sings the last time

"I see you, down on the front line.

Such a sight for sore eyes, you're a suicide makeover.

You don't know.

You don't say.

And you got no reply".

"And you got no reply" sounds like "When you got no reply"? unsure.gif

I'd say 'And you've got no reply...'.

Well they're my thoughts, anyway. :)

It doesn't matter anyway because there's no guarantee Billie will sing the right words at the concert. And no one will be able to hear you.

Doesn't matter, I just want to have the correct lyrics.

Concerning The Grouch:

What I mean is the following:

I was a young boy that had big plans

Now I'm just another shitty old man

I don't have fun and I hate everything

The world owes me so fuck you

Glory days don't mean shit to me

I drank a six pack of apathy

Life's a bitch and so am I

The world owes me so fuck you

Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals

I had a young and optimistic point of view

Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals

I had a young and optimistic point of view

I've decomposed yet my gut's getting fat

Oh my God, I'm turning out like my Dad

I'm always rude, I've a bad attitude

The world owes me so fuck you

The wife's a nag and the kid's fucking up

I don't have sex 'cause I can't get it up

I'm just a grouch sitting on the couch

The world owes me so fuck you

Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals

I had a young and optimistic point of view

Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals

I had a young and optimistic point of view

And here he says something.

I was a young boy that had big plans

Now I'm just another shitty old man

I don't have fun and I hate everything

The world owes me so fuck you

Glory days don't mean shit to me

I drank a six pack of apathy

I'm not sure, but it sounds like "Don't know where to go to".

I was going to say what everyone else said, so I won't say it. Damn you folks who got in earlier.

*immediately gets The Grouch stuck in her head*

I don't think people are going to be paying that much attention to make sure you get every single word right.

Geez, I've heard the songs like 10 billion times and sometimes I get words wrong.

No one seems to understand why I want the lyrics as accurate as possible.

I don't care if Billie'll sing them exactly like on the album, or if others will do that, I just wanna have the 100% correct lyrics.

Just for me, and for no one else.

Posted

So if Billie seems to sing something different a lot, then how are the lyrics supposed to be 100% correct? Or do you just mean 100% correct as they are on the albums?

Posted

dude, even if you manage to learn all the words album perfectly, he'll probably change it & you'll forget in the excitement anyways. Rather just let loose and have a bunch of fun at the show.

Posted

I'm pretty sure that mumbled part in Hitchin a Ride he says "2-3-4, 1-2" before that final note. At least that 's the way I've always heard it and it seems to fit since he counts "1-2, 1-2-3-4" throughout the song...

Posted

This made me giggle. :)

I never got the whole "learning" lyrics thing..

I mean, I just listen and each time I listen I guess I know more and more words, untill I know them all. Although I do sometimes read lyric books, not to learn the lyrics but just to read them.

Chill, Billie Joe aint gonna pull you up and spank you if you don't sing the right words here and there. Enjoy the show.

God I don't know all the lyrics and I've been listening for years. Hell I've forgotten loads to some songs I haven't heard for a ages as well. It doesn't matter there isn't at test at the gigs to see who knows the most lyrics :)

That's pretty much what I was going to say. It's not a competition to see who knows the most lyrics. If you fuck up, it's okay, nobody is going to beat you up for it. Hell, even Billie messes up on the lyrics, and he's the one who wrote the damn lyrics!

And if it makes you feel better... when GD played At The Library at the show I went to, I blanked out on some of the lyrics. It doesn't make me a bad fan, it makes me human, and trust me, I wasn't the first or last person to do it.

:) Just have fun, and don't worry about getting every word to every song correct.

yes, 100% correct as on the album. that's that.

And I'm saying it now for the last time for all of you who just don't want to understand, as it seems to me:

I don't care if Billie'll sing something different, I don't care if I mess the words up at the concert, and I care the least about what other people might say to me if I forget the words to a song.

I - just - want - to - have - the - correct - lyrics - from - the - album.

Thanks.

And if someone tells me again that the correct lyrics don't matter, I'm going mad :verymad:

I want to know them, that's the point. If english is not your mother language it's sometimes really difficult to understand what Billie's singing.

Thanks to all of you who just try to help me. Thanks a lot.

The correct lyrics dont matter.

why is it such a big deal if there's someone who wants to learn the lyrics like this? She doesn't force anyone of you to do it too..

At The Grouch, I always hear something like 'till I get out' but I really wouldn't know if that's allright.

For the other songs, The Disappearing Boy already said pretty much what I hear too.

reject, the the last two words are [i believe]

goodnight....to you..... singing what? [or saying what]

hitching a ride

1 2 3 4 1 2

and i think its "dont know where to go'

grouch - i had a young and optimistic point of view

scattered - another year will drag it on and on until my skin is ripped to shreads

jinx - the second one

haushinka - this girl has gone far away

the ones i didnt respond to were answered i think

Nimrod is probably my fuckin favorite album, but i gotta admit some stuff in there is tricky.

i dont think it really matters if you know every single thing correctly, i probably dont either (although i think i do :P)

1) Hitchin' a Ride:

I was always wondering what Billie's singing at the end of Hitchin' a Ride.

Sounds like "Hitchin' a ride - take one for the road trip".

Doesn't make much sense to me, so what is he actually saying?

you mean at the very end? it goes:

"hitchin' a ride say 1 3 1 3" or something like that. if you watch bullet in a bible that what he says.

(tip: a lot of things you cant figure out in a studio track, are cleared up when played live).

I also don't understand Mike in the verse before that, when Billie sings seven times "Hitchin' a ride", and Mike sings something like "Don't know where I'm going".

yea he says "dont know where to go"

And when Billie sings the last time "There's a drought at the fountain of youth, now I'm dehydrating." Is dehydrating or dehydrated correct?

He always sings dehydrating but in this verse it sounds like dehydrated.

it depends on his mood. on the track, its dehydrating, but he changes it up.

2) The Grouch:

After singing the chorus ("Wasted youth and a fistful of ideals...) the second time, Billie says something. I don't understand that sentence at all.

you mean after he says "i had a young and optimistic point of view"? uhm, well i really dont know either, it's some little humm maybe. they tend to do that alot.

3) Scattered

What does Billie sing before "Drag it on and on until my skin is ripped to shreds."?

Something like "and"? Or "we'll"?

i really really dont think it matters. just go with your gut. i usually say "well", because he says that sometimes.

4) Platypus (I Hate You)

"Your rise and fall" or "You rise and fall"?

"Red eye code blue" or "Red eye cold blue"?(both doesn't make much sense)

"Red eye, code blue"

it doesn't have to make sense. he knows more than both of us combined.

5) Jinx

"Nail me to the cross until you have won." or "Nail me to the cross and tell me you've won."?

"nail me to the cross and tell me you have won."

6) Haushinka

"This girl has gone far away" or "This girl is from far away"?

"this girl has gone far away"

7) Reject

After the last line ("To hell and back and hell again I've gone.") Billie says something. Right before the ending.

"you're not my type"

8) Take Back

What does Billie say before "Stick a knife in the center of your back". Sounds like "I'd".

"Gun for a gun" or "A gun for a gun"?

"Lights out can't take anymore" or "Lights out I can't take it anymore" or "Lights out can't take it anymore" or "Lights out I can't take anymore.

(Wow  Sorry if you're confused :D )

the first two: it REALLY doesnt matter. i always say "stick a knife" and "a gun for a gun"

"lights out i can't take it anymore"

9) Prosthetic Head

When Billie sings the last time

"I see you, down on the front line.

Such a sight for sore eyes, you're a suicide makeover.

You don't know.

You don't say.

And you got no reply".

"And you got no reply" sounds like "When you got no reply"?

nope, it's definately "and you got no reply".

Well thats as close as you're going to get it. Not even the "biggest fan in the world" has every lyric 100%, and when you realize that,

you'll be able to relax and enjoy the music. It's always open for interpretation, and if you like saying it one way better, go for it.

oh yea, and if you think Nimrod is giving you issues, just wait untill you get to Shenanigans. Nobody knows that album anywhere close to complete.

hope this helped :)

and good luck memorizing all the albums, it took me about 2 years.

So you're from the Breakdown generation?

Posted

im pretty damn sure at the end of reject [its like my favorite song off nimrod] is good night, to you, singing what
