GriGriDC Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I'm heading to the GD concert at the Verizon Center in Washington DC this wednesday, and I was wondering what the crowds have been like at their previous concerts? My hope is lots of action, a good pit, and generally cool crew of people. I'm notably less enthusiastic about being crushed up in a sea of teens, unable to move... When St. Jimmy's comes on, does everyone go *nuts*?!? (they friggin better...)
Lauren Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 omg! I'm going to that show too, and I also have GA! and YES, St. Jimmy is CRAZY!! I was at the barrier in Philly so I couldn't see most of what happened in the crowd. but I remember St. Jimmy being the craziest.the first 5 or 6 rows were everyone pressed up against each other. if you don't wanna be squished, you could go behind those people and still see pretty good. My friends tried to get up to me, got to the 5th row, but they just gave up because they wouldn't be able to come up to me. it was way too crowded and they could barely see so it wasn't worth it to them. they just moved back about half way down the floor and they had tons of room and when i went back there towards the end to meet them, i could see perfectly.and yeah, sorry. there will be a lot of teens trying to touch one of the members.but from i remember, the crowd was very diverse. there are a lot of teens, but it wasn't mostly teens. there were a lot of older people around 20-50 in the pit, too.
GriGriDC Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Thanks! I'm 6'3" so I rarely have problems getting a good view... Should be an *amazing* concert!!! Can't friggin wait!(I hope to be right in the middle of the ruckus as much as possible....) Wooooo!
Lauren Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 yeah just a word of advice...try to be nice. not everyone likes being shoved around. especially if you're that tall. you wanna make sure people behind you can see alright. everyone just wants to have a good time and enjoy themselves.
mallorymaloney Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Know Your Enemy and St Jimmy are the craziest --- Although there was no 'real' moshing or crowd surfing allowed at the show I went to! ((Hamilton, Onatio.)) Just as good, really ... IMO, moshing is kinda idiotic. Unless the band sucks, in which case it's fun, because who wants to pay attention to 'em anyway? XD;But yeah, I guess I'm not much help ... The security was really strict about the crowd trying to start a moshpit, and so most of the crowd complied --- Aside from a handful of assholes trying to start one regardless. I saw a bunch of guys get dragged out by security, and then kicked out of the venue, just for knocking people around! o__o;So if there's signs that say no moshing, they mean no fucking moshing, dude. o_o;Aside from all that, the whole crowd was extremely friendly. It was great. ^^PS: Lauren's right. Everyone's nice to everyone else who's nice! That's one of my favourite parts of a Green Day show ... It's like you're all one big family.
Lauren Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 PS: Lauren's right. Everyone's nice to everyone else who's nice! That's one of my favourite parts of a Green Day show ... It's like you're all one big family. Very true. I hate people who are mean. A woman behind me was sweating like crazy and having difficulty breathing. Although there was nothing I could do, I tried my best and kept turning around to make sure she was okay. She needed a hand on the barrier just to support her self, so I squeezed as much as I could, but the girl to my right got really mad at us. The woman ended up having to get taken out by security because she almost passed out. Anyway, the girl on my right was the one doing all the main slamming into my body. I was really annoyed. I understand everyone's close and I'm going to get pushed. but the people don't have to be mean about it. at one point the guy behind me (who was pretty much keeping everyone from pushing me) got moved to the side, and a girl came behind me. she was pressed up against me so I turn around, and she's like "I am so sorry. It's not my fault. People keep pushing me" and I understood completely. She was being really nice about it and that made me happy.
mad hatter. Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 In Hartford, there was a load of pushing and shoving. When Billie told us to jump, I barely could. I was literally pressed up against the barrier with nowhere to go. If you're claustrophobic, I wouldn't recommend being down there. A few people around me went down or had to be pulled out and taken out. Not to mention it's hot as fuck and you've got no water.Whenever Billie or Mike came to the end of the cat walk, I got whacked in the head by people trying to reach past me to touch them.I'd warn to look out for the crowd surfers. One landed right on me and well, having a person landed on top of you when you didn't even know there was one there at all isn't fun. Just watch security and you'll know where the assholes surfing are.And to be honest--it's all worth it. I would never take seating over standing.
Jaymee!! Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 The crowd in Ottawa was actually pretty gentle, aside from everyone pushing me into the barrier to get as close to Billie as possible when ever he came near us. Lots of crowd surfers too. A few people tried to start moshing during a song, but security jumped the barrier and pushed through the crowd to end it quickly.I personally thought St. Jimmy was pretty normal. Holiday was really insane.
GriGriDC Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 I agree - and I generally keep a pretty friendly profile. Everyone should have an awesome time... That said, there is a whole *stadium* of seated tickets... tickets which are basically worthless (to me), because I enjoy the fact of being able to jump in a good pit for an *amazing* band when I get the chance... Everyone who doesn't want to be pushed, mobbed, or suddenly in the middle of pit can simply get tickets up there and avoid it entirely. It certainly isn't for everyone - same as being in the front 5-crushed rows isn't for everyone either... Just recognize that most of the people who start up a pit aren't jerks... they aren't looking to wreck your night. They aren't looking to get anyone hurt. They just want the chance to rage a bit, and have a grand-old time in the trenches. As for people who buy GA tickets to a punk (ish) concert, particularly Green Day - it is pretty obvious the pit is going to be there.... (Not to sound old, but the punks and pits were there *long* before the screaming, heart-broken girls packed at the front of the crowd.) So when ya see the punks show up, just give 'em a little space and let 'em do their thing... we don't get to do it anywhere else...
Drew Holiday Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 If there is a moshpit in Orlando, I am ready.Im 5ft6, 137 pounds bench pressing 175, so i'm ready for a pit.But I do hope there isn't one, so I can actually enjoy the show without having someone's underarm constantly in my face.
Ila Reto Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 if i was allowed to go, i'd hope there would be a good riot during American Eulogy. you know how the band looks out for kids and others who fall in the pit, if things get too rough he'll stop and be like "pull them the fuck up and stop acting like an asshole" or something. i've never been to a concert before, i just base things off of what i've seen on youtube.

SEE WHO'S A PUSSY THEN, EH?! EH?! COME AWNNNNNNN.Jk. I understand, don't worry. While I occasionally find it annoying when all I want to do is just jump straight up and down without falling on my ass, I agree it's a great way to burn off rage and anger and frustration you otherwise can't get rid of in public, haha. And I've actually been known to jump into mosh pits at math metal shows! Now those fuckers know how to mosh. I'm sore for weeks afterwards, haha.

forget_me_nots Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I was on the floor at Hartford, and this troop of shirtless drunk men decided to make a hole on the floor and bash into everyone around them. They were *throwing* themselves around at everyone, it was awful. But besides that...everyone was really nice and looking out for each other, it was cool.
xVanessa86x Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Against the barrier at Hartford was kinda awful because people were shoving you against it and everything, during St. Jimmy it was the worst! I called them mother fuckers when I pushed them behind me, I felt like i was going to die but other than that they were really nice, the people around me and the security guard let me have a lot of water and such. I would just say for the best view definitely try and get into the corner! Even though my spot wasn't bad at all but that way you get more eye contact and Mike makes silly faces at you from what I heard.
NickD Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 At the Hartford show, it was for a while pretty good. Before they went on, there were these teeny girls talking behind me about how they were gonna "run right through" me to get to Billie, because they "Were already told they'd be either saved or singing" and wanted to make sure Billie could see them. Then they started to call him a bitch-ass for not picking them to be saved because "Molly was to young to even go to a concert!!!111one!!one"
punkrockerlori Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 The Vancouver show was amazing! I couldn't see a single person sitting down when Green Day was playing. Lots of lighters and cellphones out for slow songs. Though I wasn't on the floor, the crowd on the floor seemed to have fun lol.
Boston Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I was not in the Boston pit, but I had a good view of it from my seat, and it looked to me like NOTHING was happening. I only say one pit during the whole show, and it was during St. Jimmy (very mosh-worthy song). The rest of the time, everyone was standing around like a bundle of limp dicks. Those lucky motherfuckers didn't even know what they had.

Nova-Caine Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Just sounds like a normal gig to me. Crowds in the UK are very rowdy, they love to mosh and bounce. I cannot wait
Modern Zero. Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I went to the show in Chicago and yeah, people went crazy for St. Jimmy, so you won't have to worry about that. Everyone in the standing area were generally nice, and the reactions to all the songs were great. I was at the end of the catwalk, probably 5th or 6th row from it, and I have to say that my spot was pretty good. I had to stand up on my tippy toes at some parts though to see, but I could see the stage pretty well the majority of the time. I hope you have a great time at the concert!
arian Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I really hope the GA in Nashville will be a bit more mellow.. I'm 5'0" and 80lbs.. I'd prefer to live through the show.
Haydée Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I really hope the GA in Nashville will be a bit more mellow.. I'm 5'0" and 80lbs.. I'd prefer to live through the show.yeah same here! (though I'm a couple of lbs more than you.. holy shit you're skinny xd) I'm kinda scared right now.. I wanna be on the front but I sooo don't wanna get pushed I'm going to the Miami show.. does anyone knows how is the GA over there?
lobob92345 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 The crowd at the show that I went to was pretty rad, but we got stuck by a few douchebags who were really really rude to us when we were trying to move so we wouldn't get suffocated in the pit. It's really kind of a hit and miss type thing when you go, but I learned that it helps to really talk to people around you while you're waiting for the show to start. That way you've got allies in case some people decide to be rude or stupid. Best of luck.
SaintSaturn Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Just make sure if a crowd-surfer lands on your head you steal their shoes.
