Dissappointed As Hell Over The UK Marketing.

I'm sure other users of this board from the UK will agree with me that the marketing for 21st Century Breakdown has been virtually non-existent. The average person would'nt even know Green Day had made a new album...it sucks. It annoys me because I was first introduced to Green Day when American Idiot came out and it was like everywhere, it feels like they really could of gained a lot of new fans if it had been advertised more (at all) over here.

I know its everywhere in the states right now...loads of TV interviews and whatnot. It makes sense for more advertising over there because it's like 100x bigger than the UK lol, and also because Green Day are an American band and so cause more of a ripple closer to home. Still though, the UK marketing has really failed them this time and even though they're still going places with this record I feel it's let them down slightly.

i have seen one advert about a month ago onkerrang tv and the day the new album came out it was being played all day in hmv, but yeah thats about it. tbh im not really bothered, i got annoyed when american idiot was shoved in my face all the time lol, bobd was starting to drive me crazy on the radio. its not as is they need it - it was still bloody difficult to get tickects for their uk tour, so people still know they are around. its probobly something to do with how poor 'know your enemy' was for a single imo.

Well, I live in the States and the marketing is terrible. But it shouldn't really bother you. If they made better single choices it would be more American Idiot.

yeah there has been hardly anything over here. the odd tv appearance, or advert. thats about it.

yeah same in sweden. i've only seen some advert for the album on tv but that's it really. dunno about the radio since I don't listen to it that much.

if i remember right just before the release of 21cb, every other advert on kerrang and scuzz avertised it

Okay, I totally agree on this 100%

The marketing for this album has been really poor. I can understand that they would be marketed more in the States, but I think enough people in America know of them. It's nice to introduce them to new fans, but yes. Media attention for the guys over here has been poor. They obviously don't have all that good a promoter or person in that side of the biz to sort this out. I wished they did more interviews over here instead of fucking off to Germany, France or the like. Just makes you wonder where the UK stand in their interests sometimes...

There to much over here in US

There to much over here in US

There's hardly any, as far as I can tell.

i actually don't mind it at all... it was almost annoying when i couldn't go into any store, car, or house without hearing BOBD or WMUWSE on the radio. to be honest, it ruined a few songs, and even the album for me (just for a while) thanks to the total overkill. now, my non-green day friends actually don't mind when i listen to their new album. they seem to think it's cool since they haven't really heard any of the songs before.

Hey guys,

The only thing that i was pleased with was the zane Lowe Green Day speical on Radio One they did the week the album came out it was beyond awsome but that was about it. Did anyone else listen to it?

There's hardly anything over here in Canada. When their album came out, all they had a poster on the HMV window, that's it. Then, they were on Conan's or some late night show. Rarely did you see them in commercials and whatnot. And as far as I know, their songs hardly ever get played on the radio in my city.

I've only ever seen one TV advert for the new album, why couldn't we have some of that awesome grafitti artwork like they had in America?

There was a lot of TV marketing before the album came out. SNL, Colbert, Conan, NBA, ESPN plays KYE non-stop....I think it's the lack of radio play that is hurting sales, but it's still a Top 20 seller!

Let's go Grammy! I love seeing Green Day on TV!

After them saying that England 'was the official home of Green Day' and hinting at a Foxboro Hottubs performance / tour, the marketing for the UK was virtually non existent. There were two radio interviews (one of which I only knew about because of here), a couple of magazine interviews (which they did in the US at the same time as a load of others), one tv appearence and NO performances. To find out later that they'd been to France and Germany to do small gigs over there just made it even worse. I know I might not have managed to see one if they did some, but they could have at least tried.

Also, with death & destruction in the news everyday, is there really anything that shocking that Billie can say ? More people are attending church in the US and the only corrupt thing some UK politicians can do is buy duck houses. Perhaps in an already depressing world, people don't want a 'heavy' album that might remind them of their problems. This album and the singles would have needed a massive push to combat this and dislodge bands like The Kings of Leon and it didn't get it.

Sure, they played two secret shows over here, but if you weren't a hardcore-fan you wouldn't even know about them.

If I weren't on this site I'm pretty sure I wouldn't know that they are on tour. They were in a few commercials on MTV and I saw like one little poster here, which isn't really that great if you compare it to Ashley fucking Tisdale. (I have to see her face like every two minutes.) And I still hear BOBD more on the Radio then KYE, not that I really care. It just coul have been more...

not any here. the only reason people in this town know about it is because in the Green Day ranter

no word on green day over here :(

I'm getting a bit sick and tired of hearing the guy on the official rock chart always badmouthng Green Day. He never says anything about any other bands. I blame him for everything

who cares?

Why bother to post in the thread if all you're going to say is: who cares?

Just kidding.

I don't really care either, but I've noticed the poor marketing and all.

i agree - i haven't heard a single mention of 21CB on tv (although i only have around 2 music channels), it's so annoying! i'm just looking forward to when they come over to the UK in october - hopefully then they'll go on some chat shows and stuff, and be more prominent.
