I've been out of the top 40 loop for a while.....can anyone tell me how successful the latest single has been. Has it kept momentum going for the band with lots of airplay?

I believe it's number 40 in the UK singles chart :/

Trouble is this album hasn't really been promoted here. They've had airplay but other than that they've only done like one TV appearance (shown at about midnight) and a couple of radio interviews. It doesn't help that there's almost no music programmes left on TV these days, but the record company's done a bad job of this imo. Green Day is nowhere to be seen here.

i dont listen to radio, so i dunno how much airplay its gotten....the demographic that is catered to here (the bible belt) is more of the Daughtry crowd....

id say its been a flop. not enough promotion anywhere that ive seen... radio/tv/print/online. sad to say, but it just doesnt seem this record is catching on like the last one.

i still like it though. so fuck all.

This.

I haven't been paying much attention to the charts. iTunes did show that 21 Guns was #11 in the top songs yesterday, I think. Now it's down to #12. :/

If EJN is made into a single, I would love kill to see it dominate the charts.

They've had quite a lot of promotion in the US though haven't they? It seems like they've done millions of interviews and performances on US TV on several high profile, prime time shows. Not to mention magazines and those small 'secret' gigs. And almost all the online stuff has been only viewable inside the US.

Is the single doing alright in the US? Because it seems like Green Day have had tonnes of promotion there compared to here

Yeah, I've felt that this album hasn't been as explosive as the last one, especially with 21 Guns going nearly undetected. Maybe people just feel that since elections are over, that politically packed music isn't neccessary, but I'm just making excuses.

They cut it down to 30 seconds here on the radio because they feel like it's a '19 minute song'. That really pisses me off, because they played the whole of JOS all the time, but they cut down this wonderful song because THEY feel like it's too long. Australian radio is shit.

I haven't even seen it on TV or heard it on the radio, so I'd say it's a flop.

Wow, that really surprises me; it's a great song, so I can't believe that it hasn't made much of an impact. Typically, the second single on a CD is pretty important, so I'm not sure what they counter with. Lot's of good songs on 21CBD, but I can't say there's too many radio friendly hits...I really thought "21 Guns" would be the big one...

did you mean they cut 30 seconds of it out, or they cut it down to 30 seconds? 'cause i have trouble believing you LITERALLY meant they made it only 30 seconds long... sounds like a hyperbole to me.

They made it 30 seconds long by cutting parts out of the song.

I don't think so tbh. Granted, I don't listen to the radio much anymore, but that's really there's no rock radio around here anymore. It's all pop and rap. There isn't any station that would play rock at all. The fact that MTV and other basic music tv channels do not play music videos anymore doesn't help either. There's not much of a chance for the singles to get any exposure in the first place.

I really hate to say it but I'm starting to think the entire album has flopped in comparison to American Idiot. Which really is sad since I think Breakdown is so much better. Even in the States, the promotion was really weak. It seemed like all the ads and such were catered to people who already were hard-core fans, and failed to bring in new fans.

They chose the wrong single to lead with so nobody cares about the follow up. Quite sad, really.

They promoted the album like crazy here. In my town they had posters and grafetti on the sidewalks it was awesome!! I don't listen to the radio much but the video is doing pretty good on Much Music I think. It's definetly a better single than Know Your Enemy in my opinion anyway. I really want Peacemaker to be a single though!!

I think that if EJN is the next single, it'll do better than 21 Guns and KYE combined, tbh.

wtf? how do they even count that as a song? are you sure they're not just using it as an intro or something? what parts do they play if it's that short?

I don't know what it is. From my point of view I'm not a huge fan of their choice of singles.

Don't get me wrong I love both songs, but this album is an epic full of the most ambitious music they've ever made. While I wouldn't call 21 Guns or Know Your Enemy ordinary by any means, they are the two songs that are closest to being ordinary on there. And that's what they've released, the two least interesting songs on the album.

Taking the whole album into account, I think 21st CB tops American Idiot, it's the best album they've ever made. But if I'd only heard these two singles I honestly would think "Know Your Enemy isn't quite as good as American Idiot. 21 Guns isn't quite as good as BOBD. So 21st CB probably isn't as good as American Idiot". A shame because that couldn't be further from the truth.

They need to release more interesting singles to show off just how great this album is! Bring on East Jesus Nowhere I say :D

meh who cares, if you like the band, go to the concert and fuck all. Really, that's what people did from 1995 to 2002

That's true. But the boys deserve better than this :(

I'm positive they don't play it as an intro, because they asked people to call in and say which they preferred; the whole song or just cut it down to 30 seconds. People called in and demanded the 30 second one because the whole song was dragging on and was boring.

They play like, a few seconds of the first verse, a few seconds of the chorus, I don't even think they play the second verse so they go onto the bridge. It's so retarded. If I can find it, I'll post it up on here.

yes, but all the truly great records are underrated or took people years to notice (think Zen Arcade or Pinkerton)

it's still relatively early

I think you mean "30 seconds shorter."

No, I don't mean that at all.

I mean, the song is LITERALLY 30 seconds long.

Trust me, I have. If you're a fan from the post-Dookie era, then you probably have worn a Green Day T-Shirt back in the day and been a little self conscious. Moral of the story: The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Hopefully, the band has learned a thing or two since the 90's. Fortunately, they have established themselves enough that they'll avoid the backlash they faced the first time around.
