greendaytone Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I'm going to see the Green Day 21CB stage set yet live for the first time at MSG in a couple of weeks, but the city background i've seen on photos/videos looks cool.I'm just wondering when it comes round to the probably stadium tour next year, if they might try the stage in the middle of the arena, with all of the fans around them. Something that i know U2 are doing on there 360 tour.It would be interesting to see Green Day in this kind of set up, and could add to their awesome ability to break down the barriers between them and their fans.Thoughts?
Lauren Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I dunno if I like 360. The Beatles did that. Not a big fan.
Sister of Grace Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I'm not really a fan of the idea with the stage in the center..many bands do not pull it off.. don't know about green day though. I'd prefere the normal way of stage set really. But if they can pull it off, then why not.
Bassgirl_1984 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Hmmm...not really a fan of this stage setup. Cause someone, most of the time, is just gonna be staring at Tre Cools sweaty ass...I don't think that makes for a very good experience
GDM Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I've seen several theater in the round shows and I'm not a big fan of the set-up. It's difficult for the actors to make contact with all of the audience at times and I think it's a bit of a distraction. Maybe if the stage rotated, but then they would probably puke. I am curious to see how U2 is doing their setup, though I did have a vision of the giant overhead thing they are having falling down, from sketches I've seen, it looks really awkward...but that's my own sometimes twisted imagination. I've seen U2 before and I would love to see them again, but I'm not hot about seeing them again. I have their newest album, and I think I've only listened to it a few times.
HoneyDo666 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Nah..it sucks to have the band's backs to you. As an actor, I would never want to perform in the round. It's already hard enough to perform on a normal stage.Green Day are phenomenal performers but I don't know if they could play in the round.

When I saw Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium, London in 2008.. they had a rotating stage. But they didn't rotate it many times..so it was still not good for ppl who got seats behind the stage so i agree with you.
iLozza! Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I'm not a big fan of the stage in the middle, I went to see a play last year, and the stage was like that, but luckily the actors faced us nearly all the time, but it was still pretty crappy, and I felt bad for all those at the other side.
greendaytone Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Interesting. Most people don't seem to think it works too well. How about the guys dangling from the roof on a string? I think Green Day would look pretty cool from behind too though , going at it on the guitar! That angle looks pretty good in the Know Your Enemy/21 Guns videos. But i can see what the drawback might be as well.Green Day seem to like to keep it pretty traditional, so i can see how they might stick with the usual set up.
Brian Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I would they they want everyone in the arena to face them instead of the back side. They connect with everyone and they would be doing too much turning around to give every angle the same attention.
Samantha Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 The seating chart is set up so the stage is on one end of the arena floor, just like the AI tour
Jack96 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 They might do but i highly doubt it. I think Muse are looking to try that as well.
The Disappearing Boy Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 interesting idea, but i don't reckon it would work.
RebelofSuburbia Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I don't see what's wrong with the usual stage setting..

Peter. Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I'd love to see them have the stage in the middle.Saw Metallica earlier this year performing with the stage in the middle of the arena and i thought it was great. Makes a seat that's normally crappy a decent seat cause it's all the same distance to the stage.
Guest Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 i like the stage the way it is, but i think id prefer it without a catwalk.
Nele Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 i'm not a big fan of stages like that.I would probably be one of the lucky guys who would just see their backs all the time.

Metallica did have a stage in the centre and there was no "bad" place to be cause they had mics all over the stage so he just switched every now and then and so did the other guys + the drums turned 360 degrees during the set.I'd imagine Green Day would do the same if they had a stage like that.
