21 Guns single available for preorder on itunes

just received an itunes alert telling me that the 21 guns single would be available on 12th july, but available to preorder now, dunno if its in the US but its on the UK itunes, and it costs £1.99

The tracklist given is

1. 21 guns

2. Favorite Son (Non Album Track)

3. 21 Guns (Verizon Studio 880 Session)

I don't understand why they're releasing Favourite Son as a b-side. Okay, it wasn't really officially released, just included on that compilation, but come on, it's like 5 years old. Why didn't they record a new song? Unless it's a re-recorded version, or a new song under the same name....i hope it is.
