Supermodel*Robot Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 So listening to Green Day has actually expanded my vocabulary. Granted I started listening pretty young, but still. What words did they teach you? The ones I can think of right now are:PedophileGenocideVendettaSassafrasSalmonellaPanhandlingNovacaineI'm sure there's more. Platypus was basically a major lesson in profanity I think it's just cool how I can consider them my teachers in so many ways. Obviously emotionally and musically, but who would have also thought academically?

Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 A lot of words, can't think of any particular ones. It's probably because English isn't my native languague that there's a lot of words I don't know, but still.(Though there still are quite some words in lyrics that I don't know the meaning of, but I'm just too lazy to look them up :whistling:)(I didn't even know 'sassafras' was an actual word until I looked it up . Just thought it was a place or something....)

emmaILGD! Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Well I've been saying 'brutal' a lot lately, would that count? Seeing as apparently Billie and Mike were saying it at the album signing things. And I also had no idea what sassafrass was.
Guest Shangri-La Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I always thought it was malachite, it's a green mineral.Well, i didn't say i knew how to spell it it took me YEARS to figure out what he was actually meaning to say. He's referring to his green eyes when he says "hold my malachite so tight". If that isn't absolutely genius songwriting then i don't know what is.

That's genius. And Billie does spell it malakite, which is probably why I couldn't find it.
Guest Shangri-La Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 See, it never made sense to me. XDthink outside the box!!

Green Daynger25 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I always thought malakite(sp) as rocks. As like she has him by the rocks(nuts)
Sharmellow Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I learned some of those you guys mentioned already. And barrio, repercussion, disposition and some others I can't think of at this very moment.
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Okay, this one is going to make me sound like an idiot, but they taught me the word Minority. I still remember asking my mom what it meant and afterward saying "But why would you want to be the minority?"
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I just read through the lyrics of Song of the Century, 21CB, and KYEWords I didn't/don't know the meaning of:ContrabandProsperityDwellRefineryCondemnationDeclineEffigyMeh, I have a shit vocab. :/And no wonder I don't always get the meaning of songs.
Guest Shangri-La Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I always thought malakite(sp) as rocks. As like she has him by the rocks(nuts)my sister is convinced malachite is a penis.hold my malachite so tight, never let go..
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 my sister is convinced malachite is a penis.hold my malachite so tight, never let go..Haha, that's totally what I thought. But I thought it would be creepy to say that in a love song, especially considering it's about Adrienne and not just some random girl.
